As the star guided the Magi to the manger, may the light of Christ guide all of us to do the will of God

our Father throughout the New Year

“The Feast of Epiphany marks the end of Christmas, and commemorates the Magi who followed a star to find the Christ-child. The Feast of Epiphany blessing asks that we might find the Lord when our pilgrimage is ended. It also reminds us that we should be looking for God, and finding Him, all along the way. Epiphany Prayers

Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation

by the guidance of a star. Bless this home and all who inhabit it.

Fill us with the light of Christ that our concern for others may reflect your love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm,

and make us one in mind and heart, now and forever. Amen.

Religious Ed News: Service Project

“I am looking for adult size t-shirts (gently used is fine, just clean and no holes please) to make tote bags for our students as well as bags to donate to area youth programs. A box is located near the exit doors on the large parking lot side of the church for donations. If you can pass on this request to family and friends, the more t-shirts the better! Thank you.” Jen DeMilio, O.L.S. Religious Ed Coordinator”

~~~~~~~~ The cold and flu season is here! Very often we forget how fragile some people’s immune system might be and that although we mean well, shaking each other’s hand while we are ill can very easily spread germs that can make others very sick. So, during the coming months, please do not feel uncomfortable about not shaking hands during the sign of peace at Mass. Just a simple, friendly wave is acceptable and could help to keep all of us healthy this winter. Health Tips - Get plenty of rest - Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing - Use disposable tissues. (Dispose of them in a waste
basket; leaving them behind in a pew or floor can expose others to germs.)
- Wash hands frequently. - If you are ill, missing mass is not a sin. - Please do not shake hands. This will spread your
cold/flu to others. - See your doctor as soon as you have signs of the flu;
many medications are available to help you. - Get your flu/pneumonia shot as soon as possible.
A PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS - HIS WORD TODAY
by Rev. William J. Reilly “Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart will throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you…all from Sheba shall come, bringing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the Lord…Then they spread their treasures and offered him gifts of gold frankincense and myrrh.” The season of holiday visiting is drawing to a close. Lights still shine, the manger scene is special today, and unwrapped gifts are still to be seen. The memories of visits, carols and delicious traditional foods are still fresh and happy. But what happens now? Like the magi we have waited, searched and found the Christ. It’s our turn to bring gifts, not the three mentioned in Isaiah and Matthew, but a more precious gift, a more valued gift, the one that the Lord Jesus is waiting to receive from us. It is the gift of ourselves. We bring joy, hope and happiness. Joy - because we have a Savior, hope - because our world can become better, happiness - because He has chosen me to bring Him to others. We bring an awareness that this Jesus comes again and wishes to accompany us in this new year. He can’t wait for us to get started. We can choose this route, or just simply take the decorations and put them away to gather dust for another year. The choice is quite clear. “They departed for their own country by another way.”
Dancing at Lughnasa will be the January film in the 2018-2019 International Film Festival sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. It will be shown Friday, January 18, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at Maryknoll, 55 Ryder Road in Ossining. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free. Dancing at Lughnasa is a 1988 Irish-British-American period drama film adapted from the Brian Friel play by the same name, and directed by Pat O’Connor. The film is told from the point of view of the adult Michael Evans, the narrator, recounting the summer in his aunts’ cottage when he was seven years old. It won an Irish Film and Television Award and was also nominated for six other awards, including the Irish Film & Television Award for Best Feature Film. The evening will include an introduction by a Maryknoll missioner and a brief discussion after the screening.
