TATWORTH TO RIO & AC7

!ou'le re!ount their ad"enture to 1ra2il.&ter spendin' 1A days cruisin' &rom Barcelona to Rio de :aneirowith many BraOilian passen'ers, we were really ready &or our Rioadventure

=ur &irst impressions were o& lots o& people, and very busytra&&ic travellin' very &ast alon' wide tree@lined roads 6t washot and humid, but the waves breakin' on 0opacabana and6panema beaches made one &eel cooler These beaches arespectacular P very lon' stretches o& 'olden sand, and many'ames o& beach volleyball

3e7t day the tourist thin' The -0hrist the Redeemer- statuelooks very small &rom down in the city, but when you reach thetop o& 0orcovado mountain it towers 1;#&t above you 6t ismade &rom concrete and soapstone and is amaOin' to look at, asare the views o& the city and coastline

Then we were taken to see the cathedral, which is cone shapedand has 4 &loor@to@ceilin' stained@'lass panels P one in eachEuarter 2inished in 19, it is a truly spectacular buildin',beauti&ul, simple and meanin'&ul

3e7t we went to %u'ar *oa& Mountain, so named because itresembles the old su'ar loaves =ne cable car &rom the 'roundto the top o& the &irst peak, then another to the top o& %u'ar*oa& The en'ineerin' is incredible and the views &rom the topare breath@takin'

3e7t day saw serious shoppin' at Rio %ul 0enter, a A storeyshoppin' mall There is so much choice o& clothes, shoes, ba's,

6T and electrical 'oods, with sun'lasses on every &loor There isa &ood mall on each &loor, with &ood &rom every country in theworld it seems! We also saw 2ather 0hristmas in his 'rotto!

The &ollowin' day we visited the Botanical 5arden @ an area o& peace and tranEuillity in the very busy city 6t was &ounded inthe early 1th century and is a paradise o& very lar'e, very oldtrees, a pro&usion o& birds, and butter&lies the siOe o& one-shand We even saw toucans

Back in the city we walked alon' the characteristic pavementso& Rio, which are patterned with a white back'round and blackwaves usin' small mosaic tiles @ very memorable We saw theMaracana &ootball stadium, which has been re&urbished &or theWorld 0up, and BraOil is very e7cited about the event ne7t year

3ow it was the last day, and as our &li'ht wasn-t until midni'ht

we went to %terns, who make beauti&ul ewellery We werecollected by car and taken to their emporium in 6panema, andshown how stones are cut, polished and set

We enoyed seein' their immaculate work, and discovered thattourmaline is one o& the main 'ems o& BraOil, and comes inseveral tones o& pink, 'reen and blue Then a sad 'oodbye toRio =n the way to the airport the temperature dropped and itwas pourin' with rain The weather seemed to want to helpwith the transition &rom BraOil to n'land
