Exciting, Exciting, Exciting!! The new Literacy Resource Centre is almost ready and I can say it is looking absolutely amazing. The planning, stress and overcoming the challenges has put my project team to the test. Bec Stolk, Peta Rust, Cynthia Helleren, Chris Allan, Bel Layton, Sharon Hall, Kursten Tan, Kirsten Haworth-Hooker, a big thank you to all these people on my team. The work and dedication that has gone into the LRC is commendable. It is now a vibrant and exciting learning environment and I look forward to the children using it, loving it and most importantly wanting to be in there!

Grand Opening July 27th will be the Grand Opening date for the Literacy Resource Centre. Myke Mollard an accomplished author and illustrator (www.bushcreatures.com.au) has been booked to assist with the opening celebrations. Myke will be running drawing sessions for the week in the LRC. I encourage parents to take a look at Myke’s website so you can share the experience with your child. I am truly, truly excited! I can’t wait for the centre to be opened!!

French Madame Annalisa is still unavailable to resume duties due to the challenges faced battling with her daughter’s illness. So Madame Glenda has been employed for term 3. Madame Glenda is looking forward to coming back to Dorset as the French teacher as she is so passionate about French!!

School Uniform Just a reminder to parents to support the school and encourage children to wear the correct school uniform. If children can not wear the uniform for any reason please provide a note for your child. It is really important especially for the middle and senior school children to represent the school in full uniform. At assemblies or leaving the school the leaders in particular are expected to be in full uniform. Many positive comments have been made from other schools on the way our children behave, look and present themselves. Very happy for me as the Principal of this school to have this positive feedback.

Principal Morning Tea Monday 20th straight after assembly I will be having my first Principal morning tea for term 3. I look forward to catching up with all the parents and discussing my goals and targets for term 3 and 4. If you can spare the time please come along and be part of the discussions.

Transition It’s unbelievable but Kinder Transition is upon us! Miss Holt is the ‘face of transition’ for 2015. She will be coordinating the program to ensure all Kinder children are prepared for the 2016 school year and have a positive start to school life. If you are intending to enrol your child it would be appreciated if you could do that asap so Catherine is able to prepare for the transition sessions.

Welcome Morgan Clohesy to Dorset Primary School. Morgan will be the class room teacher for 3B until the end of the year. Marnie Blakeman has reduced her hours and is now heading the LRC program. A few changes but I believe will be excellent for both the grade and the LRC.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Kitchen News

I hope all students and families had a great break over the holidays. The students this week and the week prior to the holidays prepared a delicious selection of recipes making - Kale & Carrot Leaf Pesto, Silverbeet Ravioli, Lentil Salad and Garlic & Herb Pita Bread. The lentil salad used a variety of different salad greens and herbs as well as oranges and fresh tarragon leaves from our garden for the salad dressing. I would like to thank all our parents who volunteer their time to help with kitchen sessions and also thank our regular volunteers who give their time to help the students. Gregg Hansford

The Power of Forgiveness

Arriving home from primary school, I ran into my mother’s bedroom, climbed onto her bed and rested my little head on her tummy. I hugged her tight and said, “Mum, I don’t want you to die.” “Die?” my mum said, “Why would you say that?” “Because you’re in bed a lot.” I said, “At school today, my teacher said that when people get old they stay in bed a lot and then they die.” “I’m not going to die, sweetie. Mummy’s just got a sore tummy.” …. “Let me tell you why most of you are here tonight,” the speaker said to the crowd. “If you are experiencing headaches, muscle stiffness, extreme tiredness, internal infections, bowel trouble, stomach pains, ulcers – you have been hurt by someone.“ My mother sat up and stared at the man on the stage. “All of these things and many others are ways our body tells us we are hurting.” Then the speaker slowed his pace and said, “What I’m going to say next is going to make some of you angry but it is true. If you want to be well, if you want to be healthy again, you need to forgive the person who hurt you.” My mother felt tears trickling down her cheeks. How could she ever forgive her father for what he’d done? She had held those painful memories for years. Forgiving him seemed impossible. “Forgiveness is your way of handing back the suffering; back to the person who should be bearing its weight.” The man continued, “The emotional pain you feel should be carried by the person who caused that pain, not you. Forgive them and let them take ownership of their personal brokenness. It’s not yours, it’s theirs. You deserve peace and healing.” It took some time. Months. Finally my mum was able to visit her Dad and tell him she forgave him. Amazingly, once she let go of the hatred and the pain, she began to heal. The ulcers, the headaches and the other health issues she had been suffering faded away as she healed – heart, mind and soul. There is power in forgiveness.

Camp Australia

Welcome to Term 3. This week the children will be meeting to decide what activities they would like to be doing in OSHC and adding to their profile booklets. Other activities will include the ever popular “Making Box”, pom poms and modelling activities. As always, the hall is available for use until 4:30 pm and we will get outside to play if weather permits. UPDATING ENROLMENT DETAILS Often parents forget to update their enrolment details when there circumstances change or are not able to provide all details online at the time of enrolment. It is important to make sure you have included all the required information on the enrolment form. This will help us, at Camp Australia, to give your child the best care possible. All contact people also need to be added to the enrolment forms. We will not allow children to be collected by anyone other than those authorised by parents to do so. Remember: In order to avoid fees for a cancellation you must cancel at

least 7 days prior to the days in question otherwise it is marked as an

absence and you will be charged fees for that time.
