The District 271 School Bell “News From Our District” FEBRUARY 2019 Paw Paw School District No. 271 District Office 815-627-2841 Mr. Stan Adcock Superintendent Next School Board Meeting: Monday, FEBRUARY 11, 2019*—6:00 PM Paw Paw Elementary Wing—Rm. #9 (*early meeting because of President’s Day-NO SCHOOL) Pre-school screening for children, ages birth to 5-years-old, will be held at Paw Paw Ele- mentary School on Friday, March 1, 2019, 8:30—11:30 AM, in the elementary wing (look for signs). The screenings are fun and FREE of charge. Please call Paw Paw Schools, 815-627- 2671 ext. 0 to schedule an appointment. Children are asked to participate in game-like activities that are designed to measure their development in the areas of speech and language, motor con- cepts, and social skills. Parents are asked to fill out some information while their child is going through the screening process, which asks about developmental milestones and parent con- cerns. Baby books are often helpful! This is a joint effort between the school district and all of the publicly funded agencies that serve pre-school children. If you forget to make an appointment but still have a child that needs to be screened, please come in. Your wait period may be extended. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION For your convenience, kindergarten pre-registration for the 2019-20 school year will also take place on Friday, March 1, 8:30 - 12:00 Noon, in the high school office. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE ANY APPOINTMENT TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR KINDERGARTEN and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PRE-SCHOOL SCREENING! This is for all students who will be five years old by September 1, 2019. We will need a copy of a CERTIFIED birth certificate for every child enrolling in school (this is not the hospital certificate). If you need to get a certified copy of the birth certificate, contact the county in which your child was born. Please bring it to reg- istration, as well as proof of residency. Proof of residency requires any utility bill with your name and address on it, OR a tax bill, and your driver's license with your address on it. Again, you DO NOT need an appointment to register your child for kindergarten, and it is not contingent on the pre-school screening, although the District would encourage parents to take advantage of the screening. FROM THE NURSE . . .

Do not let your students borrow hats, scarves, ear muffs, etc., even from siblings! If a student would have head lice these items are one way that another student could get them!

The nurse will be doing the puberty class for the 5th grade this spring semester. Consent forms will be given to the students to take home for their guardian to sign.

A memorial wall is being established at the entrance of the High School. Its purpose is for

families to remember loved ones who have attended Paw Paw Schools and for individuals

who have an attachment to the schools and want to leave a lasting legacy. To remember

loved ones or leave a legacy, paw prints with names can be purchased starting at $150. The

paw prints with the names and years of life or graduating class year, will be prominently dis-

played on the wall. The money collected for the wall will be used for projects that are perma-
