UASC is building 9 new 14,000-teu vessels at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea
UASC’s interest in Shipdex was to avoid discrepancies between its onboard equipments and its dedicated manuals
They requested Samsung to deliver documentation to the vessels in the Shipdex protocol as part of the contract
The first Shipdex datasets (supplied by MAN Diesel & Turbo) have been introduced to the engine-room of UASC’s ‘MV Umm Salal’ vessel, the first ship now in service
Ultimately, UASC plans to use the experience from the MV Umm Salal to spread the use of Shipdex across the company fleet
The UNITED ARAB SHIPPING COMPANY (UASC) case
MAN Diesel & Turbo supplied UASC with Shipdex datasets for the following equipments: o 1 main diesel engine (model K98ME) o 3 auxiliary diesel engines (model L3240) o 3 turbochargers (model NR34S)
SpecTec Group (Head Office and Dubai) supported UASC during
the whole Shipdex project (next slides)
UASC is evaluating the possibility to convert to Shipdex the remaining manuals not supplied in Shipdex format
SpecTec Group support to UASC
Project coordination with MAN Diesel & Turbo
Shipdex datasets validation, performed using AMOS Shipdex Data Manager
Shipdex datasets completion, applying relevant SFI codes (functional locations) to all supplied physical components
Shipdex datasets import into AMOS BS, performed using AMOS Shipdex Interface
UASC obtained an AMOS BS database containing all – and only – the information supplied by MAN Diesel & Turbo
That process can be replicated across the company fleet (without data duplication)
The same Shipdex datasets can be used (again and again) for different purposes, as to: o create custom manuals o build Computer Based Training o import data into ERP or other IT applications o etc.
UNITED ARAB SHIPPING COMPANY experience can be replicated
by every ship-owner
