INTRODUCTION

The development of physical attributes should be seen as a task equal in importance to the development of technical and tactical attributes. In order to do this requires a commitment of time from the player in advance of the contact time they receive in training with the Academy. It is therefore important that players take a level of ownership in their development and ensure they follow their individual training program away from training.

Players will be allocated a series of exercises each block which correspond with those listed in the ‘Individual Training Exercises’ document to provide them with an individual program. It is vital that the player does not alter or move on from the allocated exercise without being instructed to do so by the Lead Strength & Conditioning coach as this could become detrimental or harmful to the player if they have not achieved the required base level of ability to move on.

Players should aim to complete their program at least 2-3 times per week, and record their performance by noting in the diary when they have completed their exercises during the week. At the end of each block of training each player’s progress will be monitored by the Coaching and the Strength & Conditioning staff by both checking of their diaries and by physical testing sessions, with any changes to their program made as necessary to support the player’s development.
