President’s Corner – March 2016
Wow! Yes, that’s right, Wow! The members of the Board and I were bowled over by the attendance and
the great feedback we received at the Town Hall and Social on February 21st. It was absolutely fantastic to
see over 100 homeowners show up and really engaged. For those who did not attend, I have two mes-
sages. First, the information we covered is available on our website and will be in the eSignal. Second, we
will definitely be holding Town Halls more often (as was requested by those in attendance!). In the Town
Hall, we covered many topics including our recent survey results, our upcoming reserve projects and the
activities of many of our committees including Communications, Architecture and Landscape. We also dis-
cussed the recent concerns around security and safety – to assist in this area we are now forming a new
committee to help the Board address these concerns. While we were truly humbled by the great turnout,
we do need your help on our committees!
Regarding upcoming projects, we are very busy! Our West Pool renovation is now underway. We have
drained the pool and work has begun. We will be performing major work, as planned for in our reserves, to
re-plaster and re-tile the pool, remove the deck so we can address all plumbing needs and then re-
installing a new paver deck that will provide a great surface and also allow for ease of maintenance going
forward. We are also continuing our efforts in landscape projects. We’ve recently addressed maintenance
for our two wells and are now working on irrigation upgrades and continued landscaping in the eastern
greenbelt area. We continue to do this work to reap the benefits of reduced water consumption and sav-
ings in this time of drought.
Our Crossings Activities Team continues its work on upcoming events. We have two upcoming events and
we continue to need help to plan and carry them out. First, our annual Spring Egg Hunt will be back as our
newly rebranded “Spring Festival” with more costumed characters and festivities on Saturday, March
26th. The Crossings 6th Annual Wine Tasting will be held on Sunday, April 17th. We hope to see you at
these great events.
Finally, if you'd like to read a report about the community-wide survey, please visit http://goo.gl/cCJekc
and scroll to the bottom to find a link to the report.
We would be pleased to have you join us on March 24th for our next regular monthly BOD meeting. Until
next month…
Mark Weinmann, President

ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Architectural Committee (AC) would like to
remind fellow homeowners that holiday decora-
tions must be taken down within 30 days of the
end of each holiday season.
Homeowners MUST submit an Architectural Ap-
plication and wait for approval before making
any change to any area that can be seen from
the sidewalk, street or Common Area. This in-
cludes, but is not limited to, painting the house
and replacing front lawns, driveways, fences,
roofs and windows. The Architectural Applica-
tion Form can be obtained in the Business Of-
fice or the Architectural section of the CHOA
website at: www.walnutcountry.com.
Other things worth noting, tree branches hang-
ing over sidewalks and streets need to be
trimmed to either eight (8) feet above the side-
walk or twelve (12) feet above the street. Also,
the sidewalk bordering your property is your re-
sponsibility to maintain. If your sidewalk has a
trip hazard, call the city of Concord Public Works
at 925.671.3448. They may come out to
“ramp” the area with asphalt free of charge to
mitigate the problem.

View From The Clubhouse
The CHOA sponsored event season is off to a great start!
The Super Bowl game might not have lived up to the media
hype, but you couldn’t tell from the 70+ people that at-
tended the game here in the clubhouse. The food was com-
pletely wiped out as was nearly all of the beverages. And
the kids reminded me of kids of yesteryear… they actually
formed a game of touch football on the clubhouse front
lawn. And from some of the plays I saw being made by our
would be Walnut Country footballers I’d say the men play-
ing on the TV could have learned a few things! As far as
teaching old men new tricks, Peyton Manning didn’t need
any new tricks in beating those young Carolina whipper-
snappers. And hey, how ‘bout them Warriors!!
Now that I’ve got you all riled up over the local sports scene
I want to remind all of you parents with kids that love to
play soccer. Registration is taking place as we speak. Don’t
let the kids miss out on a great learning experience. The
Walnut Country Soccer League is waiting for you. Come on
down to the Clubhouse office before it is too late!
On another note I would like to express my deep gratitude
to one of our long term and loyal clubhouse employees…
Roman Scalise. After 6 years of faithful service to his com-
munity it is time for Roman take his leave and move on to
bigger and, hopefully, better endeavors. Yes, Roman is
leaving us, but in his stead comes an eight-year CHOA resi-
dent, Dave Clawson, to fill Roman’s shoes. Drop in to the
clubhouse if in the neighborhood and welcome Dave to the
clubhouse staff. And as they say in showbiz, that’s a wrap!

WALNUT COUNTRY PRESCHOOL NEWS
February was spent teaching the kids about showing love and appreciation for friends, family, and the
community around them. Our Valentine’s Day celebration had the preschoolers exchanging cards and
treats, and bringing home special heart-themed tokens of love to mom and dad. The rest of the month
focused on our appreciation for community workers that we rely on every day. We had visits from
nurses, police officers, and fire fighters who also happen to be Walnut Country moms and dads. Thanks
to everyone who came in to share their careers with the children – many young minds were inspired.
Registration is still going on for the 2016-2017 school year, if you or someone you know is looking for a
great learning environment for their child, please come see what we are all about. Schedule a visit any-
time by calling 925-798-9686, or by email at [email protected].

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE UPDATE
With the survey wrapping up last month, the Communications Committee now sets its sights on redesigning our community's website. After the Board selects a company to design the website, we will dive head first into creating a more user-friendly layout, chock full of news and information that is easier to find and up-dated more frequently than before. With a "look" in hand, we will start implementing exciting new features like an opt-in residential directory and secure access to CHOA documents.
As discussed at the Town Hall Meeting last month, the Board of Directors is going digital with its operations. All Board members have received laptops from which all CHOA business will be conducted. From these laptops, Board members will be able to share documents online with secure connections, and decrease the administrative burden of printing seven board packets for every monthly meeting. Further, once the laptops are fully configured, all Board members will have public email addresses allowing you, the homeowner, to contact any member directly.
