2018 was a great year for Travis County and Precinct Five. Constable Five continues to excel, and served over 50,000 receipts of Civil Process for our Travis County Courts. All women deserve to feel beautiful, and those with special needs are no different. The Miss Sweetheart Special Needs Pageant treats its contestants like royalty, with makeovers and the real beauty pageant experience. It really changes lives.

The pageant is open to all ages, and is a treat for all involved. As part of our involvement with Special Olympics of Texas, Deputy Walter was on hand to help and Constable Lopez was even a judge!

Historic Floods in Central Texas

It was all hands on deck when Austin experienced historic flooding around town this past fall. September was the wettest on record for rainfall in Texas. So it didn’t take much rain to fall in October for flooding to occur. The heavy rain in Central Texas and the Hill Country helped lead to this catastrophic flooding event.

Austin even issued its first ever city wide “boil water” notice, something that we won’t soon forget. Thank you to our deputies and sergeants who watched over several low water crossings around town. Also, a special thanks to CN5 deputies and staff who volunteered to hand out free drinking water around town to those who needed it most.

Stand Up for Safe Families Paddle Parade

Holiday Families & Silver Santa

This past year CN5 adopted 13 families to share some Holiday cheer with. In addition, we adopted 17 members of our Silver Watch program and made “Silver Santa” deliveries. We are very grateful to the Calendar Club who was so generous in their donations of toys and goods. Thank you to Deputy Walter and Deputy Overdorff for picking up 125 stockings that Redeemer Lutheran Church filled for us to hand out to our families and Silver Santa recipients. Also, thank you to the CN5 Employee Association who provided H-E-B gift cards to all of our adopted families. We are thankful for the partnerships that allow us to provide this service to our community and precinct.

As part of the Austin-Travis County Family Violence Task Force we were honored to help take part in the annual Lauri Wright Stand Up For Safe Families Paddle Parade. The event was a huge success with Constable Lopez as the MC for the evening. Hundreds of folks turned out to turn Lady Bird Lake purple and show support for Family Violence Awareness. If you feel that you or a loved one may be in an abusive relationship, please call SafePlace at (512)267-7233 (SAFE).

Precinct 5 Awards

The end of the year is always special with the holidays, spending time off with family and friends, and the CN5 annual dinner and awards celebration. We take this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate staff for their hard work throughout the year.

For the year of 2018, Deputy Michelle Walter was named “Deputy of the Year” and clerk Rylma Burnham was named “Employee of the Year”. Congratulations to both for a great year full of hard work and dedication.
