Meet & Greet Friends
Old and New!
Fellowship is more
than coffee . . .
it is an important part of the gathered church life.
FELLOWSHIP HOSTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Meeting and greeting friends and visitors after worship
is a great part of our Sunday morning experience here
at CBCC. Every week it is our pleasure to wander over
to Sponsler Hall, grab a cup of coffee and a snack, and
chat for a while before heading off for our week. This
time also provides an essential opportunity to meet
new people visiting our church.
Please consider signing up to host our fellowship.
Just one time makes a difference. Snacks are al-
ready there. Set-up and clean-up is the main task.
This is a great ministry for couples or two friends
who love to entertain.

The History of Christianity: From the Disciples to the Dawn of the Reformation Great Courses Video Series
Christianity is the largest and most global religious tradition in history. For nearly 2,000 years, the Chris-tian faith has remained at or near the center of Western moral debate and conceptions of human identity, just action, and ultimate meaning. Its prac-tice and influence appears in every land and every language, and one-third of humanity now affiliates in some way with Christianity. How did this happen?
Great Courses Professor Luke Timothy Johnson of Emory University, follows the dramatic trajectory of Christianity from its beginnings as a “cult of Jesus” to its rise as a fervent religious movement; from its emergence as an unstoppable force within the Ro-man Empire to its critical role as an imperial religion; and spread throughout the Western world. Profes-sor Johnson brings to life a truly epic story, giving you a multilayered knowledge of Christianity’s ori-gins, rise, and civilization-shaping presence in our world.

The Celtic World Great Courses Video Series
Facilitated by Cindy Johnson and Coleman Todd
When you hear the word “Celtic,” which images come to mind? These days it could easily be Braveheart, kilts, leprechauns, and St. Patrick’s Day. However, since the surge of interest and pride in Celtic identity since the 19th century, much of what we thought we knew about the Celts has been radically transformed. In The Celtic World, discover the incredible story of the Celtic-speaking peoples, whose art, language, and culture once spread from Ireland to Austria. European history and culture have been profoundly affected by the Celts, from the myth of King Arthur to the very map of the United Kingdom, where the English confronted the peoples of the “Celtic Fringe.” With a wealth of his-torical expertise, Professor Jennifer Paxton, Director of the University Honors Program and Clinical Assis-tant Professor of History at The Catholic University of America, engaging and often humorous delivery blends perfectly with the facts about the Celts to uncover surprising historical revelations.

UCC Disaster Ministries Update : Hurricane Michael
"UCC Disaster Ministries continues to monitor the situation currently unfolding with Michael in communica-
tions with FEMA, National VOAD partners, UCC Conferences and Conference Disaster Coordinators. The
widespread impact from Florence, Mangkhut and now Michael has prompted UCC Disaster Ministries to es-
tablish a 2018 Hurricane Relief response that will allow us to expand our current capacities and respond
through our established networks and partners in the threatened regions, states and territories.
We’ve already shipped over $1.9 million in supplies for relief efforts. Help us continue to provide relief sup-
plies and make sure that some of our most vulnerable neighbors – including refugee and immigrant com-
munities – can rebuild. UCC Disaster Ministries is encouraging continued prayer for all the families, individu-
als, first responders and emergency management staff in the region.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you would like to contribute you can check our Facebook page for links under the most recent KYP post.

WANT A MORE HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE?
If someone would like to lead a group effort to prepare Church World Service kits please let Coleman know.
These items do need to be shipped outside the state to Arkansas or Maryland. No local CWS drop-off is avail-
able.
The Florida Conference does not have the means to deliver kits to the Panhandle. Other organizations are
equipped to do that. Kits are stored at CWS warehouses ready to be moved to affected regions as needed.
CWS Response: Florence . . . We have responded to several requests for supplies in the wake of the storm.
So far, more than 7,200 CWS Hygiene Kits, Emergency Cleanup Buckets, School Kits and Blankets have been
mobilized for the response. We will continue to process requests as they come in.
CWS Response: Michael . . . Although it is still early in the response, our team is already mobilizing our relief
effort. We are letting our partners and other responding agencies know what supplies we have available, and
we are identifying staging areas where we can preposition supplies near the path of the storm so that we can
provide them quickly when requested.
CWS Kits are small packages of supplies assembled by volunteers
and shipped to families and communities in need around the world –
BUILDING INFORMATION In recent days earth was excavated on the south side of the church for the base of the columbarium. Rebar
work was laid out week before last, and on Wednesday the cement was poured for the project. The unit has
been in port on the west coast while the base was being prepared. It has now been okayed for transporta-
tion, and will arrive within the coming weeks.
The contract has been signed with the same construction company that was involved in the church sanctu-
ary renovation several years ago. Ed talked with the chief engineer and construction supervisor this past
week, and plans are underway to do the repairs the first two weeks of December. They will work around our
schedule, and Sunday worship services will not be impacted.
Bids have been received for repairs on the rooves of our other buildings. This process has been slow due to
negotiations with the insurance company. We hope to have a report to you soon on the complete costs of
repairs.
BUDGET INFORMATION FOR THE PRESENT FISCAL YEAR
The board will receive the monthly financial statement for October at its next meeting. The
budget numbers through September could have been better, but were well within a reasona-
ble range. We were about $11,000 under our budget needs coming out of summer. We hope
that this number will diminish as we catch up with our offerings this fall.
STEWARDSHIP INFORMATION You received a pledge card some weeks ago with a letter from our Finance
Chair, Rob Monks. These past weeks we have heard members share in worship
about the importance of the church to them and the need to support it.
Sunday, November 11th is our designated Stewardship Sunday.
We hope that you have been giving some thought and prayer to what your
commitment will be this year.
CBCC is a community representing a diverse number of religious traditions. Some of us have been nurtured in
the Roman Catholic tradition, some the evangelical tradition, and some even have mainline church roots.
Perhaps a few of you have no religious tradition and find our process strange indeed.
Here are a couple of things that might be helpful. The Bible teaches us that God is a generous giver, and we
give back to God a portion of those gifts. Our gifts support the internal ministry of the church, our pastor and
staff, worship and programs that bring vitality to the life of the community. They also are important to so
many people beyond our walls, people who are broken, impoverished, oppressed, and who need to know
that they are of value and worth to God.
The board recommends a budget at the annual meeting to support our ministries. We are blessed because of
the generosity of the Women’s Fellowship via The CBCC Thrift Store, fortunate to own land that generates
revenue from parking superbly managed by Rich Meyers, and the rest is up to us.
The board can’t recommend a proposed budget with any accuracy unless it knows what the intent of our
members is. Your pledge gives them guidance. We hope that you will choose to pledge this year, or if you
usually pledge to increase that pledge. The pledge card isn’t a bank note; rather it is simply a promise that
you will do your best to support the church at a certain level. You and your gifts are greatly appreciated. We
hope and trust that you will be as faithful as you have been in the past.
One thing more, we will gladly work with you should you desire to use electronic giving. Please note this on
your pledge card and someone will contact you to expedite the process.
Stewardship is about making choices, as individuals and
in community. It is more than giving money to the
church. Stewardship is about being faithful disciples, car-
ing for and managing all that God has given us.
Stewardship is the grateful response to God’s grace and
goodness. It requires a consideration of how our choices
affect us and others, of how we can be good caretakers of
the created world, and of how we can best serve God as
disciples of Christ.
IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE A PLEDGE CARD
THERE ARE EXTRAS ON THE TABLE IN NARTHEX.

COCOA BEACH COMMUNITY CHURCH UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
The UCC is a welcoming, justice-minded
Christian community. At a time when religion is too often portrayed as narrow-minded and exclusive,
many are raising their VOICES for an alternate vision:
Here God is all-loving and inclusive
- Where the Church of Jesus Christ welcomes and accepts everyone as they are
- Where your mind is nourished as much as your soul - Where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary - Where together we grow a just and peaceful world
