Who is the virgin Mary?
MARY
WHO IS MARY?
Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ thus she is the mother of God. This makes Mary the mother of the whole world.
WHY IS MARY SO IMPORTANT?
The Bible describes Mary as the ‘most blessed among women’ and ‘highly favoured’ by God.
She was chosen to bear Jesus by God, through an immaculate conception.
WHY IS MARY SO IMPORTANT?
Catholics believe;- Mary, like Jesus, was born without sin- Mary is an intercessor. An intercessor is
one who prays for others.- Mary is a saint. She is an individual
who’s life has made her an example for believers of how to journey with God
WHY IS MARY SO IMPORTANT
Catholics celebrate the Feast of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15
Assumption means that God takes the individual body and soul into heaven, without him or her suffering death.
HAIL MARY
Hail Mary, full of grace. Our Lord is with you.Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb,Jesus.Holy Mary, Mother of God,pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.Amen.
Who are our saints?
SAINTS
WHO ARE OUR SAINTS?
WHO ARE OUR SAINTS
A saint is a member of a religion who after death is formally recognised as having led a life of exceptional holiness.
Saints are like Heroes of the Church. We look up to them as an example of how to live our lives.

What are some of the things that happen at Church?
CHURCH
THE EUCHARIST
Also known as holy communion, sacrament of the alter and the last supper.
Bread and wine is symbolic of the body and blood of Christ.
THE EUCHARIST
When the time for Holy Communion comes at Mass the priest holds up Christ, saying: "This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper". The priest receives Communion and then places the body of Christ in the hand (or on the tongue) of each person who wishes to receive Our Lord. The person who receives the body of Christ in the hand places the sacred host in his mouth immediately.
THE EUCHARIST
It is symbolic of Christs sacrifice for us and our sins.
It is an expression of faith and of obedience to Christ, God and the Holy Spirit.
SUNDAY MASS ATTENDANCE
In 2001, about 15.3 % of all Australian Catholics attended Mass on a typical Sunday.
Mass is a way for Catholics to celebrate and learn about their faith
