BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS

BOARD REPORT—11/19/12

On Nov. 19, 2012, Chapter officers, com-mittee chairs and members met with Presi-dent Holly Wright at 6:36 pm at Mythos

Greek Taverna. In attendance were: Holly Wright, Barbara Weiss, Fay Wilmot,

Kathy Gallagher, Randee Abramson, Diane Delgouffre, Lori Mauer, Nancy Wolfe, Lois Margolin, Paula Pirozzi, Marion

Holmes, and Kandyce Key. Board reports are posted to WIN. To access these re-

ports:

Log on to WIN (Women’s Instructional

Network)

Click on the “Library” tab (on the top

right)

Click on the “2012-2013” folder link

under Coral Springs (on the left)

Click on the “Committee Reports” folder

link under that

Click on the “12.11 Comm Reports”

folder link under that

You will then see all the reports in the

right side window

The following is a summary of the key points of the meeting:

Committee Reports:

Chambers of Commerce: Fay Wilmot highlighted the upcoming Coral Springs

Chamber events. Lori Mauer will repre-sent the membership at the West Boca

Chamber event. Lois requested a list, by

chamber, of members that attend the chamber meetings on ABWA’s behalf.

Community Relations: Stephanie Cohen will collect Holiday gift donations at the

upcoming Holiday Party on December 1st to benefit Women in Distress.

Membership: Lois Margolin reconciled the roster and assigned mentors to the newest

chapter members.

Technology: The November meeting sur-vey results were the most positive thus far.

Hospitality: Randee Abramson reconciled the attendance at the November chapter

meeting.

Newsletter: The deadline for all informa-tion is Monday, December 17th.

Programs: Lori Mauer confirmed upcom-ing speakers: January is Frank Gallo, who will present “Self Defense in the Work-place,” and February will be Gil Sternbach,

who will present, “Branding Your Business and Yourself.” Note that the January

meeting is on the 10th (2nd Thursday) due to the New Year’s holiday the first week.

Ladies Night Out: Nancy Wolfe reported preliminary results for LNO. The event was more successful than the previous year. A

recap meeting will be scheduled in Janu-ary.

Public Relations: Marion Holmes re-viewed the fundraising option available

through BBT Center. It was decided that the Trans Siberian Orchestra date (Dec. 14th) was too close to get a good number

in attendance. We will focus instead on the Cirque du Soleil “Totem” on either Sat-

urday, Jan. 26th or Sunday, Jan. 27th. We will send an email to chapter members and

members of the Tri-County chapters for interest in attending. As a fundraiser, we

will get $5 per ticket.

Professional Development: Paula Pirozzi reported that we currently have 9 appli-cants for the $1000 Impact Scholarship, but not all have completed their applica-

tions. The deadline was extended to De-cember 31st – Paula will send a reminder

email to each applicant.

Woman of the Year: Paula reminded us that applications need to be submitted by January 31st.

Top Ten Candidate: There was a lengthy discussion on the process we should use to select our Top Ten Candidate for this

coming year. It was decided that Kathy and Lois (previous Top Tens and therefore

ineligible) will collect names of those inter-ested and eligible to represent us as the chapter’s Top Ten Candidate. They will

bring a recommendation to the board and to the chapter for a vote at the February

chapter meeting. An article will be pub-lished in the newsletter to outline the re-quirements.

Tri-County Council: Lois Margolin will host the Tri-County Holiday on December

15th.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 pm.

The next Board meeting will be on Mon-day, Jan 21, 2013 @ Mythos Greek Tav-

erna beginning at 6:30pm. All members are invited to attend as well.

Mentor Responsibilities

Meet with your mentee and help her fill out the new mem-

ber profile form.

Explain the officer and committee roles and determine

what committee she would like to join.

Contact your mentee at least two weeks prior to the chap-

ter meeting to see if she will be attending the meeting. Walk her through registering for the meeting and confirm

that you will sit together at her first meeting.

During her first chapter meeting, take her around and

introduce her to everyone, keeping her engaged. Try not to leave her alone. Introduce her to the committee chairs and officers. If you will be unable to attend, be sure to

have someone take your place.

Help her log into WIN or connect her to someone who

can assist her with the login process.

Be available for any questions she might have.

Let's start 2013 off with some fun! Marion Holmes, our Publicity Chair, has established a relationship with the BBT Center and they have offered us discounted tickets to Cirque Du Soleil’s TOTEM show which will be held in an intimate setting at Sun Life

Stadium under the Grand Chapiteau Tent this year. Part of the ticket proceeds will benefit our ABWA chapter. ABWA regional chapters, friends, family, guests are welcome!!

The dates are as follows:

Saturday, Jan. 26th: Shows at 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Ticket prices start at $54.50pp for side stage seating and $84.50 for center stage seating. (There are no obstructive views within the tent, just a side view vs. center view)

Sunday, Jan. 27th: Shows at 1:00pm and 5:00pm. Ticket prices start at $41.00pp and $69.00 - seating same as above.

OVERVIEW OF THE SHOW:

TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species

from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by

many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of spe-

cies. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM ex-plores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams

and his infinite potential.

What is Woman of the Year? Well, it is an honor bestowed upon one of our chapter sisters that has

given her talent, time and heart not only to ABWA, but to her community and her career. Each year we ask our members in good standing (good standing

means both local and national dues are paid) to complete an application. This application can be a

consuming process since many of us do not like to toot our own horn. So why bother, you might ask?

In addition to being recognized as our Woman of the Year at each chapter meeting, this honor allows you to attend the National Women's Leadership Conference in 2013, with your registration, travel and hotel paid by the chapter! Based on the chap-

ter's Standing Rules, to be considered for our next Woman of the Year, you must have served (either currently or in the past) as committee chair, or on the executive

board and be a member for at least one year.

Three judges from our community are asked to review our applicants and select our

winner. These judges are not affiliated with ABWA so that all is fair.

I look forward to answering your questions and handing you an application at our

January 10th meeting. The completed applications must be returned to me by the end of January.

You could be the 2013 Chapter Woman of the Year! I can't wait until March to find out who will take home this honor!

speeches that are easy and effective, as well as delivering speeches that build

confidence in our speaking abilities. Lorraine’s interactive exercises taught several skills that can be used the very

next day.

Chapter Business:

The October Meeting Minutes were

approved with a motion made by Lori

Mauer and seconded by Nancy Wolfe.

Paula Pirozzi proposed that the Chap-

submission from Chapter's funds. The motion was seconded by Diane Del-

gouffre.

National Conference, recapped her experience in Memphis, TN. Barbara

shared how invaluable her attendance proved to be. There was a consensus

among all attendees, that the Top Ten speeches were the highlight of the event. Barbara reminded the Chapter

that it is not too early to start making plans to attend National Conference in

Little Rock next year.

Sherri Miller recapped the Women-in-

Distress Safe Walk-Run 5K held on October 27 in Tradewinds Park, Team

ABWA represented our Chapter. All proceeds benefited WID.
