THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS VOL. V , STOW, O., FRIDAY, JULY 15, 1938 STUPIDITY I should have thought of so in- teresting a subject long ago, how- ever, one usually picks his sub- jects up from observation or ex- perience. This day, July 5th, 1938, I see on the pictorial page of The Cleveland Plain Dealer the picture of ten men walking across a street in Beflin, Germany. These ten men have been ordered by the government to walk across a great thoroughfare, with baskets over their faces to show drivers how careless they may expect pedestrians to be. No man has ever driven a car for one day but he has marvelled at the stu- pidity of the jay-walker. No one having occasion to dash across the gre'at arteries of traf- fic but well knows it's a toss be- tween the quick and the dead. The pedestrian may be likened unto a toad, for he never knows which way a toad will hop by looking at it, it's just stupid. The average driver may be lik- 'ened to a chicken, the foolish thing is more apt to run into danger than avoid it, it's just gross stupidity. Now, stupidity is great dull- ness of the mind. It is to be in- capable, wanting, slow, dull, heavy, foolish or stupid. Confi- dence men roam up and down the NO. 2S land relieving the stupid of their hard earned cash. When the man at Titusville, Pa., sold his farm, stony and un- productive, for eight hundred thirty dollars, even money and no sense, and then learned that the old farm would produce oil valu- ed at five hundred thousand dol- lars a year, he was stupid. When the dear aged couple in Franklin, Pa. was so overjoyed after making the sale of their property that they counted their money between them as they sat on a bench in the park and then in their ecstacy walked away and left their little fortune on the rustic seat, they were stupid. Every community could contri- bute scores of the most ridiculous and unbelievable acts of stupidity scored against intelligent folk. Most of you good readers could tell more than one good joke on yourself. Few indeed are they who haven't played the fool at some time or other. Intelligent behavior by a hu- man soul savors of grandeur, is commendaible anywhere on earth and certainly is approved by the most high. Now, my good neighbor, it is rather stupid of you to waste your influence. You are passing this way , just once, better come over on the JLord's side and line up
