Swine Weigh-In 2020 Swine Weigh-In

March 28th, 2020 | Western Dubuque High School Ag Room

Before 9:15 AM: Bio Secure Weigh-In (by appointment only, call Extension Office)

9:15 AM – 11 AM: All other Swine Weigh-In

Please carefully review the information below for fair updates.

With the recent announcement of some swine packing plants no longer accepting fair pigs for 2020

fairs due to the ractopamine (Paylean) concern, the 2020 Dubuque County Fair will be hosting a

non-terminal swine show and will NOT be having a swine auction. We highly recommend that

families do not use Paylean for the fair this year. Questions can be directed to Sarah Ludwig, CYC, at

the Dubuque County Extension Office.

Weigh-in Information:

Each 4-H/FFA member may weigh-in up to 8 pigs. There is a $3 tag fee for county only ear tags and

a $7 tag fee for State Fair tags.

In order to be eligible to show in the Derby class at the 2020 Dubuque County Fair, swine MUST be

weighed in and tagged at a county weigh-in. Contact the Extension Office if you are unable to attend

the March 28th weigh-in.

If your family would like to bypass the weigh-in process for extra biosecurity, you may contact the

office to have us come out to your location. However, there will be a $20 per head fee (minimum

charge of $100) to have your pigs tagged at your location. Those pigs will be

eligible for ONLY Breeding Gilt or Market Barrow/Gilt classes. Pigs not weighed-in will not be able to

be entered in the derby classes at the fair.

The 2020 Swine Rules and exhibitor information will be mailed to exhibitors and are on the Dubuque

County 4-H website at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/dubuque/sites/www.extension.iastate.edu/

files/dubuque/Swine%20Projects%202020%20Final.pdf.

Biosecurity information can be found at this link at the bottom of the webpage: https://

www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/swine

The following livestock rules have been updated for the 2020 Dubuque County Fair: Dairy,

Dairy Goat, Bucket Bottle Calf, Horse, Poultry and Rabbit. Rules can be found on the

Dubuque County Extension website listed under 2020 Livestock Rules.

Dairy Association Princess Competition

On behalf of the fair board, we would like to inform 4-H clubs of the Blue Ribbon Breakfast on

good way for 4-Hers to network by reaching out to create baskets and the raffle benefits them in

the end. If your club is interested, you can reach out to the fairgrounds at 563-588-1406.
