The original Gus’s location in Mason, Tenn., was booming, and Wendy saw an opportunity to open a location in downtown Memphis. That led to a franchise model, and now McCrory owns, operates and oversees Gus’s franchises in multiple states. Dianne Fry first met Wendy in the late ‘90s, when a mortgage relationship turned into a friendship. Today, the McCrory family uses Landmark Bank for various personal and commercial banking needs, with Karin Jones working on the business banking side, including the franchise operations. Jones says Wendy and her husband, Matt, are the kind of customers that Landmark loves: smart business people who value relationships. “We have a true partnership. Many banks would love to have their business, but Wendy is extremely loyal," Jones says. "We both took on some risk in those early days, and it's been a winwin. Now we're thrilled to do loans for her, and they trust us. They see us as business advisors.”

The Client PerspectiveLongtime Landmark Customer Has Taken Gus's Fried Chicken from aLocal Icon to a National Brand

Wendy McCrory was a successful steelindustry executive who loved to take outoftown guests to one of West Tennessee’sculinary icons, Gus’s Fried Chicken. Theoriginal Gus’s location in Mason, Tenn., wasbooming, and Wendy saw an opportunity toopen a location in downtown Memphis. Thatled to a franchise model, and now McCroryowns, operates and oversees Gus’sfranchises in multiple states.

Dianne Fry first met Wendy in the late ‘90s, when a mortgage relationship turned into afriendship. Today, the McCrory family uses Landmark Bank for various personal and commercialbanking needs, with Karin Jones working on the business banking side, including the franchiseoperations.

Jones says Wendy and her husband, Matt, are the kind of customers that Landmark loves: smartbusiness people who value relationships.

“We have a true partnership. Many banks would love to have their business, butWendy is extremely loyal," Jones says. "We both took on some risk in those earlydays, and it's been a winwin. Now we're thrilled to do loans for her, and they trustus. They see us as business advisors.”

to detail and entrepreneurism as the recipe to their success.

“She is easy going, but she understands the business inside and out. She won’t hesitate to make whatever adjustment is needed, and she’s very good at what she does,” Fry says. “We have total confidence in her and everyone I know who deals with her feels the same way.”

As for McCrory, she says simply that there’s no where else she’d rather bank.

“It’s like having family at your fingertips. Landmark has been instrumental in the growth of our business, and we wouldn’t be the company we are today with out the bank,” she says. “It all started with a mortgage with Dianne, and we moved everything over. Karin has brought a lot of expertise that I didn’t have – legal, insurance, funding… I know how to run a restaurant, but they brought all of this wisdom to the table when I really needed it.

“You just hear great things about this bank, and I am proud to be an investor. I have a friend in the financial industry who's moving all of his business over based on the feedback I've given him. I love everything about this bank."

Supporting Our CommunitiesSenior Crimestoppers Program Helps Keep Newberry Heights ResidentsSafe and Secure

Thanks to Landmark Community Bank, residents of the Newberry Heights Apartments inMemphis will live in a safer and even more secure environment. Landmark recently joined theSenior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation (SHCPF), and is helping to protect those residentsby funding the Senior Crimestoppers program for seniors residing in this care facility.

Fry says she’s become close to the McCrorys over the years, and sees their dedication, attention

The Foundation serves as a way for banks to fulfill their federally mandated Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) requirements by providing aid to low and moderate income individuals in their local community. The Foundation’s mission is to provide safe and secure living environments for our nation’s senior nursing home residents, many of whom are low and moderate income individuals, through the operation of the nationally acclaimed Senior Crimestoppers program.

Crime against the elderly in our society is a constant battle that can be reduced and prevented through the operation of the Senior Crimestoppers program in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Components include personal lockboxes for the residents, cash rewards up to $1,000 paid anonymously for information about wrongdoing of any kind, and effective, ongoing education and training for staff members and residents. The program has reduced all aspects of crime in participating facilities by 94%.

“Senior Crimestoppers is a way for an administrator to further enhance the lives of the residents they serve. It does not mean that the facility currently has a crime problem, but that the administrator is proactively finding a way to keep problems from occurring in the future,” said Terry Rooker, president of Senior Crimestoppers.

Landmark Bank President and CEO Jake Farrell says this program is another way the bank can support the community it serves.

"Our seniors can often become victims of crime because they are vulnerable, and that includes being taken advantage of financially," Farrell said. "The Senior Crimestoppers program is designed to shield residents from those who wish to do them harm, and we are proud to play a small role in their great work."

Locally, they’re the IT minds between Memphis City and Shelby County governments, Shelby County Schools, FedEx, Memphis Light Gas & Water and many more across a range of sectors. For the last two decades, Landmark Bank has had a front row seat to Thomas’ growth and success.

“I fit three categories, going back to Memphis First Community Bank before Landmark purchased it,” Thomas says. “I helped found Memphis First and was a director for Landmark for a couple of years after that. I’ve also been an investor in the bank and throughout it all, I’ve been a customer with the business and personal banking.

He sees parallels between his business strategy and that of Landmark: first among them, the experience.

By focusing on service after the sale, Thomas Consultants cultivates longterm relationships with customers and vendors that ensure both sides are positioned to win.

“That’s our competitive edge, and we provide the highest quality products and services while maintaining moderate pricing for our clients,” he says.

"Landmark understands relationships. The personal banking service they offer in 2016 is unheard of, and I highly recommend it to all of my friends."

“This bank is on a solid foundation, and the result is the kind of growth and expansion that is exciting to be a part of.”

The team at Landmark's Music Row branch held an open house on March 31 to celebrate thearrival of spring with customers, neighbors and friends. Now they've set another event for June.

"We saw that this is a great way to meet our neighbors and prospective customers,visit with our clients and build the kind of relationships that will pay dividends," saidBill Coleman, Landmark's Vice President of Cash Management Services. "Our planis to do these informal events each quarter  this location on Music Row makes it theperfect spot."

Elise Gworek Joins Cool SpringsBranch as VPCommercial LendingElise Gworek started her career in the banking industry in 1997 in Cleveland, Ohio, in Key Bank’s commercial loan operation. After a stop back in her hometown of Pittsburgh, her husband was transferred to Nashville to work with the online sports outlet Rivals.com. Through it all, she earned an MBA, parlaying her marketing degree into a deeper understanding of how business – and business relationships – really work.

Now Elise is Landmark Bank’s new Vice President of Commercial Lending, working from the Cool Springs branch.

“Landmark has a team environment that is really attractive. I don’t call myself a banker – this roleis really a relationship manager,” Gworek explained. “I had worked with Bill Coleman previously,and he gave me a perspective on things that I got excited about.

"What Landmark offers is how I know community banking to be. I've seen how thebig banks operate  anyone can match rates and cut fees, but it's the bankingexperience and the lasting relationship that differentiates Landmark Bank from anyother I've seen."

Gworek says her focus is on helping our customers manage their money the way she would manage her own.

"I’m looking forward to getting to know all of my colleagues and working closely with them.”
