Dear friends,
Greetings in the
name of the Lord Jesus Christ! This past month
has brought not only heat but excitement to
Lake Houston United Methodist Church! In the
last several weeks we’ve had a baptism and sev-
eral new members. Another excitement is that
we hired Ken Burns to be our new Director of
Youth Ministries! As most of you know by now,
Ken and his wife Cyndi have been active in
youth work in other churches for several years,
and had been looking for a place to connect
since they moved into our area. Ken and Cyndi
started visiting several months ago, and became
active in the youth program right away. I’m
grateful to God for providing Ken and Cyndi and
their family in this important area of our minis-
try, and for providing a place like LHUMC for Ken
and Cyndi to exercise their gifts. I believe
there is no mission field more critical than our
youth, and I ask your prayers and participation
in this great task.
For the past couple of weeks Janie Web-
ster has been speaking to our congregation
about prayer. Janie is a prayer warrior, as most
of you know. She spoke about being in the
prayer room during services, serving as a prayer
anchor during the services, and the importance
of our prayer meeting every Tuesday at 7 p.m.
She quoted the great preacher Charles
Spurgeon, who said that every great movement
of God began with prayer. How is your prayer
life? We have the “Field Guide for Daily Prayer”
booklets, provided by the Methodist Men that
can help provide structure and prayers to begin.
Sign up to be a prayer anchor by yourself or
with a significant other. Before I entered the
ministry Brenda and I served in the prayer room
of the church we attended during the service. It
is a wonderful gift to be able to pray. And, like
anything else, we become better as we practice.
Practice the Christian life: pray.
At the end of September we again have
Family Promise coming to our Church! This won-
derful ministry of the Missions Team provides a
place to stay and food for qualified families who
are on their way to a better life. You can partic-
ipate with your prayers, your presence, your
gifts, your service and your witness. (Sound fa-
miliar? It’s part of our membership vows.)
Friends, may we all remember our mem-
bership vows, and trust in the Lord Who gives us
life, teaches us love and shows us the way to a
new creation.
Faithfully in Jesus Christ,
Pastor Frank
The Prayer Corner by Janie Webster
In case you were-
n’t able to be at
church one of the
past 2 Sundays,
or in case you’ve
lost one of your
Sun. morning bul-
letin inserts, this
week’s Prayer Cor-
ner is a summary of the invitation the Lord is issuing to
us all, as we search our hearts to see what our re-
sponse should be. For He’s called us. He’s clearly said,
in both the old and new testaments, “…and my house
(our church) should be a house of prayer”. (Isaiah 56:7
and Luke 19:46)
PRAYER ANCHOR MINISTRY- Prayer anchors pray FOR a
Sunday church service, DURING that same church ser-
vice. We pray for our pastor and those in the service,
plus for those on our prayer list and for anyone or any-
thing else the Lord lays on our hearts to pray for. We
pray in the prayer room that’s to the right of the CFC
entrance in the back parking lot. A current Sunday bul-
letin with its list of those to pray for, plus various other
prayer aids, will always be on the prayer room desk and
bookcase. And we want you to know that one of our
most helpful prayer aids is a book in the bookcase, by
Germaine Copeland, titled Prayers that Avail Much.
That God-inspired book contains already-written, God-
inspired Scripture prayers on 155 different prayer-
needing subjects- an invaluable aid when we might not
be sure how to best pray on our own! We must say
we’re predicting that, once you’ve served a prayer room
shift, you’ll want to sign up again! (The sign-up sheet is
on the wall beside the door next to Pastor Frank’s of-
fice, plus we’re also periodically given opportunity to
sign up online.)
TUESDAY EVENING PRAYER SERVICE- We meet at 7:00
in the sanctuary to worship, praise, share, laugh, cry,
partake of Holy Communion, wait and call upon the
Lord, pray for others, and sometimes be prayed for, our-
selves. Your LHUMC prayer team warmly invites you to
come pray with us, BUT, IF YOU CAN’T, the Lord is offer-
ing us yet another way to be praying together, in power-
ful unity and agreement…
DAILY PRAYER FOCUS FOR EACH OF US, WHETHER OR
NOT WE CAN ATTEND TUES. PRAYER- (We know we
each have our own ‘list’ of people and issues to pray
for, but the list at the end of this article is a list of spir-
itual growth needs we believe God wants us, as His
united church, to pray for, for our church. We’re hoping
we can all agree it’s a list we want to be part of praying
for! And, in order to keep our praying simple- YET POW-
ERFULLY EFFECTIVE- we’re suggesting we all pray for
the ONE, SAME CONCERN EACH DAY. Seven days, sev-
en concerns- 1 for each day. (Please Note: The Scrip-
ture verses in parentheses remind us that these needs
are among the many that are GOD’S WILL FOR HIS
CHURCH! They are His will for us here at LHUMC & for
His church universal.) (Please refer, now, to that list of
Mon.-Fri. prayer concerns at the end of the article.)
Reading along with us, we think you’ll agree- it’s not
only God’s will, but in fact, His GREAT desire, that we:
(1) hunger for more of Him, (2) become a house of pray-
er, (3) hunger for His Word, (4) be filled with the Holy
Spirit, (5) have unity, (6) have our hearts broken for the
unsaved, and (7) pray for our leaders. We believe it’ll
delight God’s great heart when, for example, on Mon-
days, we all storm heaven, each calling upon Him to
give us hunger for MORE of Him! Yes, we’ll all be in dif-
ferent places, praying at different times during the day
and night, but we’ll all be praying for the same thing, in
agreement. Then, we can only imagine His added de-
light if we go the next steps to (1) look up, (2) write
down, and (3) speak forth those Scripture verses, show-
ing Him we believe in the truth and power of His Word.
Why, how could He refuse us?! Because when we’re
praying in faith, believing His promises, wanting His
will… then we can know that, because He’s fully and
forever faithful, He’ll bring what we’re praying, to pass…
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A suggested list of 7 concerns for us to pray for, one for each
day of the week. Please pray for:
Mon.- our hunger for more of God (Matthew 5:6, Psalm
42, Psalm 63:1-8)
Tues.- LHUMC to become a house of prayer- with no
shortage of prayer anchors and with Tues. prayer
and individual prayer lives flourishing (Isaiah 56:7,
Luke 19:46, Colossians 1:9-14)
Wed.- our ever-increasing hunger for God’s Word
(Proverbs 4:20-22, Luke 4:4)
Thurs.- our church body to be filled with the Holy Spirit,
living lives that yield spiritual fruit (Ephesians 5:18,
Galatians 5:22-23)
Fri.- unity in our body (1st Corinthians 1:10, Ephesians
4:2-3)
Sat.- our hearts to be broken for the unsaved in our
church & in the world (Matthew 9:35-38, John 1:12,
Romans 10:9-10 and 13, 2nd Corinthians 4:4, Ephe-
sians 3:14-21, 2nd Peter 3:9)
Sun.- our church, local, state, national, & world leaders (I
Timothy 2:1-2, Psalm 105:14, Proverbs 21:1) *P.S. I
have to add that I’ve had a check on my spirit, since
starting this article. Surely we need to pray daily, not
just weekly, for our pastor whom we love and for the
leaders of this world that’s in such dire need…
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We come, Father, in the name of Jesus and in the power
of the Holy Spirit, asking you to help us become the
people and the house of prayer You’ve called us to
be. We know, Lord, that when we do our share, you
MORE than do Yours! How we thank You! Amen.
Summer is almost over and the Fall will be here soon with lots of fun
things to do!
We’ve been helping a family who fell on some hard times due to layoffs
and needed some help after losing their house. It is our honor to assist them. Carroll Taylor, John
Brahm, Harry Piercy and David McGallion have spent some time assisting with some plumbing, fram-
ing, etc!
A huge thank you to the four “grey beards” as Harry refers to them, for giving your time and talents to
help someone in need. You are a true blessing!
We’re gearing up for the Patch! The pumpkins will be arriving early October and you can bet you’ll
hear more about that as we get into September. We plan to have our normal “unload” the truck on Sunday with a meal to share afterward,
and then open the Patch to our community.
It is so much fun to work a 2 or 3 hour shift and hear the community talk about how many years they’ve been coming to our patch as well as
sharing information about our church and programs to first timers! Come join us in this outreach to our community, to our church and to
the Indian Reservation help support by continuing this long standing tradition.
And last but not least.....the signup sheets are available on line and the posters
are up on the bulletin board for sign up for Family Promise. The dates are, Sun-
day, September 24- October 1......
Help set up the rooms.....we have two Sunday School classes that assist with this and can always use another hand or two! There’s supplies
to furnish, dinners/dishes to cook, fellowship, mentoring, fun and nights to sleep over. Then help take down the rooms and get ready for
Sunday school as well as linens to wash......We humbly ask that you consider joining us....you can do a little or do a lot. This mission Trans-
forms lives in a very big way that you see and participate in right before your very eyes. We are hoping to host the next graduation during
our week so this is a great way to see what Family Promises is all about....now a little bit about our 3 Families.
The kids have returned to school (and some of the parents too!) HAAM helped them with supplies and shoes this year. They all got haircuts
from a company named “Sheers will Travel”. I can imagine it was a time of great excitement and anticipation for the upcoming school year.
Many of you have met Denise and her two children 7 and 10 years old. She is busy with interviews and has been called back for a second
interview. Once she lands that job, it will be a very exciting time for her as she prepares for her graduation! She wants to have her gradua-
tion at our church. We were her first church and she’s like to celebrate with us! Quite a compliment!
Stephanie will join us for the first time with a 9 and 2 year old boy along with one that’s 5
months old! All boys for this Mom! She’s also looking for work presently
Tonya and her 13 year old daughter will also be with us and she’s also job hunting currently.
Come join us.....sign up via signup genius – you can find the link on the church website under
missions or sign up on the posters on the Missions bulletin board! We look forward to having
you with us!

Love and self-control are like bookends
that hold the rest of the fruit of the
Spirit in place. All the fruit initially grow
from love and are kept in place by self-
control. Desiring to walk in the fruit of
the Spirit is a good thing because it in-
volves being patient, kind, humble, display-
ing good manners, not being selfish, and
other good fruit as well. Although it would
be nice if we automatically behaved that
way toward people, it rarely happens with-
out self-control. We may be able to do it
sometimes, but then at other times we
may not feel well or we are having a frus-
trating day, and walking in the fruit of the
Spirit is more difficult. But thank God He
has given us self-
control to hold
the good fruit in
place in our lives. In children's church we
are learning that God helps us display self-
control in order to show love to people at
all times.
Children's Church helpers are
needed during 2nd service.
Duties will include helping prepare snack &
craft, walking children to the
restroom or be an extra set
of hands. Please know that
you can help as often or little
as you'd like. Remember our Volunteers are
vital to help our children grow in Faith.

NEXT MEETING: SEPT. 12th @
10am
We will be starting a new Bible study on Sep-
tember 12th, Tuesday at 12:30pm at the
church. The study is Twelve Ordinary Men
by John MacArthur and focuses on the twelve
disciples. What is most amazing about the
disciples is that Jesus ever selected them at
all: among them, a handful of common fish-
ermen, a hated tax collector and an impulsive
zealot. When you take a fresh look at the dis-
ciples, you'll be faced with a stunning fact:
The men the Savior chose were ordi-
nary. Hopelessly human. Remarkably unre-
markable. But they were available and obedi-
ent to the Master's call. The message of this
study is that if Christ can accomplish his pur-
poses through the lives of common men like
these, imagine what He has in store for you!!
Please sign up in church office ASAP. Once
you book and workbook ($18) arrive, please
pick up and have the first chapter and first
week of homework (not that much) done be-
fore our first meeting day of September 12th
as we will jump right into the study.. Can't
wait to see you.

There is one who scatters,
and yet increases all the more,
And there is one who withholds
what is justly due, and yet
it results only in want.
The generous man will be prosperous,
And he who waters
will himself be watered.

Each month LHUMC partners with Huffman First Baptist to provide a food pantry for the com-munity.
Participants are required to reside in the Huffman ISD. They are allowed to go once per month.
The food bank is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9am - 12 noon.
Attention Travelers: The small soaps, shampoos and other personal items that you find in hotel rooms are great items to donate to the food pantry. These items are kept in a basket on the counter so that those that need the items can help themselves. If you would bring these items home with you when you travel, then you can donate to the
food pantry. Just a way to help without spending any additional funds.
Our church is responsible
to stock the shelves with the following items:
Tuna
Diced Tomatoes
Peanut Butter
Spaghetti Sauce
Spaghetti Pasta
Jelly
Canned Meat
Soup
Canned Chicken
Macaroni Noodles
Canned Veggies
Canned Ravioli
Macaroni & Cheese
Canned Fruit
Any nonperishable food item is appreciated as well as toiletries.
We Collect POP TABS
For Ronald
McDonald House I want to say "Thank You" to everyone who so gener-
ously saves pop tabs from soda, soup, etc. cans for Ronald
McDonald House!! (There is a jar for them in the Sanctuary
kitchen and the CFC.) This is a big help for Ronald McDonald
Houses everywhere! They have made many thousands of
dollars from this program to help families who need to stay in
these Houses while their children are hospitalized near by.
Our church has saved a lot of tabs to help
them throughout the years. It is an on-going mis-
sion of ours. Thank you and God Bless you for
it! Sincerely,
Betty Frisk and Judy Cox
