President’s Updateby Steve Williamson - Club President
Fall is here, we’ve finally left behind the heat of sum-mer. That means we are in the midst of a flurry of driv-ing and social events. Everything from Club Racing, DE, Autocrosses, Octoberfest, Challenge Rally and our end of the year Holiday Party are happening during this season. A big thanks goes to all volunteers, orga-nizers, and participants who make these events suc-cessful. Details on each of these may be found in the calendar section of this publication, at our website http://flc.pca.org and Porsche Club of America Citrus Region on Facebook. If you are not playing with us, you are missing out on a valuable part of PCA Citrus Region membership!
At the end of the year, it is a time to reflect on those things that went right and on those things that didn’t. I can report to you that Citrus Region’s membership has grown and that we are financially stable. Zone 12, of which we are part, is currently leading in growth in PCA. With the new models Porsche is introducing to insure its survival, I would expect that our mem-bership will continue to grow as long as we remain responsive to the type of events these potential new members demand. Throughout the year we were able to introduce some new services and events that were intended to reflect the desires of our member-ship and with few exceptions they were well received, well attended, and will likely continue. We’ve had fun this year!
The 24 Hours at Daytona is just around the corner on our calendar January 23-26. There will be a Porsche Cor-ral once again where parking, refreshments, televised race coverage, and shelter will be available to PCA members. Please keep in mind that Corral parking is available for Porsches only and only to those who have the special PCA Corral ticket, so leave the F150 at home and buy the Corral ticket. The Porsche Cor-ral ticket is also valid for the practice sessions prior to the 24 Hours, The Roar Before The 24, and for the Koni Challenge on Friday before the 24 starts on Saturday. I have been told that there are only a few of these tickets remaining available. If you haven’t purchased your Corral ticket yet, contact Daytona International Speedway ticket office at 800 748 7467.
Zonefest will return to Citrus Region Memorial Day weekend at the Lakeside Inn in Mt Dora. The 40th Anniversary of Citrus Region is 2014 and we hope
that our local members will be out in force to autocross, shine and show, and social-ize with fellow PCA members who will be attending from throughout Zone 12. This venue has proven to be pop-ular with PCA members from other Regions and we are now putting plans in place to insure this event is not one you will want to miss. It is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones all with similar interests. Make your plans now to come celebrate Citrus Region’s 40th Anniversary.
The BIG event for 2014 is Escape to Magical Orlando hosted at Walt Disney World in early November. Since Disney is in our backyard, Citrus is the lead Region. In the coming months, you will hear more and more about this event. Escape is second only to Porsche Parade in size and scope. Citrus Region will depend on our cadre of members to organize, volunteer, and participate. Since Escape is the responsibility of the entire PCA Zone 12, we will be joined by our neigh-boring Regions to help make this event a success. I am certain that Escape to Magical Orlando 2014 will be an event to remember.
This is the last article I will be writing as President of Citrus Region PCA. The last three years have been rewarding, challenging and fun! Time has passed quickly and I would like to thank every-one who has lent me their time, expertise, and as-sistance. I wish to thank every-one who stepped up to chair an event(s), volun-teer, or partici-pate. Take a look at the real leaders

President’s Update (cont)of Citrus Region, identified under the heading of Directors and Committee Chairs and Other Con-tacts in the Spiel. They are the key players in Citrus Region that are counted on to make things work. Everyone who is involved in our DE program and autocross series should very be very proud. Our driving events are second to none and are models for Regions across the country. Our membership chair and webmaster have provided exceptional service as well. And as you probably know, Spiel is a national award winner!
Special thanks also goes to our Treasurer, Arden Griffith, who has looked after Region finances for two and a half of my three years as President. Thanks to our current Vice-President, Lisa Lewis, who has been instrumental in organizing and bringing new events to Citrus Region. And thanks to our cur-rent Secretary, Lyn Perez who has attended every meeting, has taken the lead in planning for Escape 2014, and has instituted new procedures that are designed to better serve the needs of the member-ship. I have had the pleasure of working alongside the 2014 President and I am absolutely certain that you are in enthusiastic and capable hands.
It has been a Great Ride...
Enjoy your Porsche and enjoy your membership in PCA!

2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Champion-ship SeriesGRAND AM has announced the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Series schedule. There will be 12 races this year. All the venues except Long Beach have had either an ALMS Porscheplatz or GRAND AM Car Corral. IMSA will be the sanctioning body. The series, as noted above, will be titled the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Series. TUDOR is a premium Swiss watchmaking brand and a subsidiary of Rolex. In addition to being the Entitlement Partner of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, TUDOR is also cur-rently the World Timing Partner for both Ducati and the FIA World Endurance Championship. The only event in which TUDOR will not be the title sponsor is the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
GRAND AM had many interested parties but for 2014, they only considered facilities from their 2013 Rolex Series and ALMS schedules. The 2014 lineup features four race tracks currently on the Rolex Series schedule, four that are on the current ALMS schedule and four that were on both series’ 2013 schedules. There will also be two test sessions November 16-17, 2013 at Sebring International Raceway and November 19-20 at Daytona International Speedway. The test sessions will be open to all four classes of cars that will compete in the new championship: Prototype, Prototype Challenge, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona. Session schedules will be announced in the near future.
The 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule is as follows: The dates are race days only.
• Jan. 25-26: Daytona International Speedwayo The 52nd running of the Rolex 24 will be the debut event for the new championship series.• March 15 Sebring International Racewayo The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring fueled by Fresh From Florida. The 62nd race, North America’s oldest sports car race will part of the same series and under the same sanctioning body as Daytona for the first time since 1998. • April 12 Long Beacho This will be a street race again in conjunction with IZOD IndyCar Series. … Prototype and GT Le Mans classes will compete together. This is on the schedule because Southern California is one of the most important con-sumer markets for nearly all TUDOR United SportsCar Championship stakeholders.• May 4 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca• May 31: Detroit Belle Isleo Also a companion street-race event to IndyCar. This race will feature the Prototype, Prototype Challenge and GT Daytona classes. This event is on the schedule Detroit is home to many of the auto manufacturers partici-pating in the TUDOR United SportsCar Cham-pionship plus numerous supplier partners.• June 29: Watkins Glen Internationalo The track is owned by NASCAR• July 13: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park• July 25: Indianapolis Motor Speedwayo This again will be a co-hosted event with the NASCAR Sprint Cup series• Aug. 10: Road America• August 24: Virginia International Racewayo Event will have a combined GT Le Mans/GT Daytona race and another race featuring the Prototype Challenge class.• Sept. 20: Circuit of the Americas
