Opportunities to Stretch Our Christian Faith TOGETHER!

Here are some wonderful opportunities, and if you have questions, please

call me in the office (Kay 586-5413, ext. 101).

The Call: This Bible Study follows the Life and Message of the Apostle Paul.

As author Adam Hamilton says, “What would lead a first-century rabbi to trav-

el for thousands of miles by sea and by land, to be beaten, imprisoned, and

ultimately beheaded for his faith? It was a call—a call to turn the world upside

down.” Learn about Paul’s call to be an intentional, dedicated follower of

Jesus - and what his call means for OUR CALL.!!!! (9:35 AM Sunday, Chapel)

Dare to Dream: a learning series for the whole church - ALL Ages! Based on

an inspiring book/DVD resource by popular author and pastor Mike Slaughter.

He draws on the Bible and a lifetime of ministry to help us discern God’s

dream for us and learn to live it out prayerfully and enthusiastically. (One

group meets in the Friendship Room on Sunday mornings and another group

meets in the Chapel on Wednesday evenings. You may join either group.)

What it means to be United Methodist Christians: During this four week class,

we will discuss some of the beliefs that make Methodists “who we are”! Kay

and Marvin Lansverk will help explore John Wesley and our Methodist roots,

but focus mostly on those things that bring us together as a congregation.

Converse and ask questions about Methodist worship, the Bible, grace, social

issues, and more! We offer this class for anyone interested, new-comers or

old-timers! This group will meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM from Sept. 28th -

October 19th upstairs in the Art Room.

Sunday Mornings: November 6th - December 11th God wants us to find joy and fulfillment when we serve…

and that happens when WHAT we do matches WHO God created us to be.

Our church family would love to have you consider being a part of our next

Spiritual Gifts class whose purpose is to help you discern your gifts... and how to

use them to serve God and neighbor in the way God created for you. Kim Broden,

Tanya Reinhardt and Nancy Hopkins will be guiding this new group using a highly

recommended resource called “Serving from the Heart”. (Stop by the office if you

would like to see a copy.) We begin our next six week class on Sunday morning

November 6th from 9:35-10:25.

This amazing ecumenical learning opportunity continues through November 7th ... Please come any week you can!

Mondays, 9:30-11:15 AM for WEBS Women (meet at St. James Episcopal Church beginning September 12th)

&/or Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM for Women & Men! (meet at Hope Lutheran Church beginning September 6th)

WEBS, collaborating with Gallatin Valley Interfaith Association, offers

this Bible Study under the leadership of Rabbi Ed Stafman, of Congregation Beth

Shalom, and Pastor Stephen Schmidt, of Hope Lutheran Church.

Please consider being a part of one (or more!) faith learning opportunities this fall.

Their Very Own Bible

On Sunday, October 9th, we will

present 3rd graders with new Bibles. If

you are able to attend one of our worship

services* (8:30, 10:30), we will invite you to

come forward to receive them. Please let us

know what worship you will be attending so

we can have your personalized bible and gift

prepared.

We have sent out questionnaires to

3rd grade families; you may complete them

and return them to Janna OR one of the

members of our Education Team will be call-

ing or visiting the Sunday School Classroom

to find out more about you. We want to be

able to use your answers to write a little

“biography” about each 3rd grader to put in

the worship bulletin.

If you are a new 4th or 5th grader at

BUMC and would like a bible as well…

please contact [email protected] or

call 586-5413.

We look forward to 3rd Grade Bible

Sunday on Children’s Sabbath and are very

thankful you are a part of our church family.

Sunday School 3rd, 4th & 5th graders are enjoying

string games like Jacob’s Ladder in the Dare

to Dream study for Sunday School Kids!

We still need 3 more teachers (1 art

and 2 sceince) for our next rotation class:

Joseph & Pharoah; starting Oct. 30th.

Stephen Ministry Sunday

Sunday, October 16 will be Laity Sunday at Bozeman

United Methodist Church. It will also be Stephen Ministry Sunday.

On that day, you'll hear from some of our twenty-one Stephen

Ministers first hand. They'll tell you howthe ministry works and how it

has been a blessing for themselves as well as their care receivers.

As you participate in worship that day, please ask yourself, "Is God

calling me to be a part of this ministry?" Our next training class begins in January.

Please prayerfully consider if you might be called to participate.

What’s Up at WOW . . .

The WOW Team Kids DO Make a

Difference! The WOW Team (K-5th grade

age) meets 3-4 times a month for fun

outreach activities. We have a snack, and

then, as John Wesley would say, “do all

the good we can” for others. Remember,

all elementary school kids are welcome,

whether they are a part of our church, or

any church. So kids ….bring your school

friends …..we are going to have some

fun while making a difference in other

people’s lives.

Did September fly by for you? We have now

experienced our new schedule for several weeks.

It is my hope that you have been able to adjust and

find which of our three services works the best for

you. I want to thank everyone that has attended the

Wednesday evening service for being open and

receptive to a very different venue. As we continue on

Wednesdays I hope you will feel increasingly comfortable

to share your ideas and questions as a part of worship.

The Wednesday meal, service and classes are still a work

in progress, so your feedback is always helpful.

In November I will begin a three session and

sermon series on the topic of my appointment with you,

transitions. Using the book “Transitions, Making Sense

of Life’s Changes” by William Bridges, we will explore

what the process looks like. The classes and sermons

will view the topic of transitions from both how we are

affected by change in our personal lives as well as the

life of the church. The books will be available soon.

I am so grateful for this church and all of you!

“Thank you, Providing God, for this building, this church, this

house of worship. Thank you for this place where I can meet

with others to worship and glorify you. Thank you for the peace

and comfort I have found here.

I thank you for what it means to me, for what it has meant

to my family, and for what it will mean to future generations.

I thank you for the moments in this church when I have

experienced your living presence.

I pray for all the members of my church, O God. May we

all experience a new walk with you as we come together to

worship you. Put in all our hearts a sense of the path that

you have set for our congregation. Help us see your purpose

clearly. Take away the barriers than stand between us and the

hinder us from being the people you want us to be.

Thank you for my church, Providing God. Amen.”

From the book Quiet Spaces by Patricia Wilson.
