The Sanctity of Human Life “Since the genetic code is written in a person at the moment of conception, the moral problem is of a pre-religious nature. Not to allow the further development of being which already has all the genetic code of a human being is not ethical. The right to live is the first among human rights. To abort a child is to kill someone who cannot defend himself.” (Pope Francis)

Marriage Moment Today, All Soul’s Day is today. Do you know much about your spouse’s deceased relatives? Spend some time remembering and telling stories about the holy people in each other’s past. They may not have been perfect, but they are still family.

What is the St. Gianna Center? Our city now has a satellite office of the St. Gianna Pregnancy Outreach Center. It has been renovated and is now open to assist all who cherish human life. The center provides material, emotional and spiritual support to needy single mothers and young families during pregnancy and through the first years of life. The Dunkirk office of St. Gianna Center is located on the grounds of St. Hedwig Church, specifically the building closest to the church i.e. the former convent.

All Souls Day Today, Sunday, Nov 2

nd at 7 p.m. there will be a special

evening prayer service to remember and pray for our loved ones who have preceded us in death. All are most welcome but especially the families of those who were buried here in the past year. The prayer will consist of meditative music, readings, and a candlelight procession. It is most fitting for those who still grieve the death of a loved one

Catholic Cemetery Moment If you are considering cremation it is well to discuss your choice with your family or parish priest. While cremation is allowed, there are certain preferences and stipulations. The cremated remains of a body must be buried or entombed. The church does not allow scattering cremated remains, dividing cremated remains or keeping cremated remains in the home.

Hours are: Tues, Wed. and Thurs. from 2 – 5 p.m. There is also a bike clinic on Tuesday evenings from 7 -9 p.m. that offers a hand-on opportunity to learn bicycle repair. If you have an old bike in your garage or basement that is no longer needed, Spokes Folks will gladly accept it.
