THE CHARLESTON JAZZ ORCHESTRA TO FEATURE FREDDY COLE IN UNFORGETTABLE: A TRIBUTE TO NAT KING COLE
March 18, 2017 / CHARLESTON MUSIC HALL
Charleston, SC, February 21, 2017 – On March 18, the Charleston Jazz Orchestra (CJO) will
welcome Freddy Cole to the Charleston Music Hall to perform UNFORGETTABLE: A Tribute to Nat
King Cole, featuring many of Nat’s most memorable and beloved songs.
Celebrating his 85th year, Freddy Cole has been recording and touring for over fifty years and boasts
over thirty recordings as a bandleader. The CJO looks forward to joining Freddy in creating an
intimate tribute to his older brother, Nat King Cole and to his niece, Natalie Cole, with songs including
Unforgettable, L-O-V-E and Mona Lisa.
Nat King Cole was a major force in popular music for three decades, first as a jazz pianist and later
as a mesmerizing vocalist with a smooth and well-articulated soft baritone. While there are
similarities between the Cole brothers, Freddy’s vocals – suave, elegant, formidable, sometimes
spoken and articulate – make him the most respected lyrical storyteller in jazz.
“Freddy Cole is the ultimate storyteller through music. His style, delivery, and ability to place the
audience fully into every song is unmatched. He has been touring and releasing albums for over 60
years and we are thrilled to join him in giving a warm and memorable tribute to his brother,” said
Charlton Singleton, Music Director of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra.

A multiple Grammy nominee, People Magazine praises Freddy Cole’s “gorgeous baritone, phrasing
and pitch-perfect feel for standards, pop tunes, and ballads.” The New York Times calls him “the most
expressive male jazz singer of his generation.”
All members of the Freddy Cole Quartet will perform with the CJO including Charleston native,
Quentin Baxter (drums), Elias Bailey (bass), and Randy Napoleon (guitar).
