Nighttown Student Discount PolicyStudents up to age 26 are 1/2 off the regular price. Student priced tickets are only available the night of theshow, are available only at the door, and are subject toavailability. Students must have a photo ID from agenerally-recognized high school, college or university. Full-paying ticket holders get priority on admission andseating. Certain select shows have no discount based onarrangements with the artist. On evenings when thereare two shows (i.e. shows at 7 & 9PM), the discount isonly good for the second show. Students under the age of18 must be accompanied by an adult paying full price inorder to be eligible for the discount.

Freddy Cole, the legacy of his brother Nat Cole, will stir up memories that will neverbe forgotten. Now in his 50th year of performing, this great singer and pianist hasdeveloped a huge following of his own. The instantly recognizable Cole voice and aveteran quartet, play the classics as well as new compositions and interpretationsfrom a huge repertoire.

Lionel Frederick Cole was the youngest of five children. His three elder brothers,Eddie, Ike and Nat (12 years Freddy’s senior) were all musicians. “Music was allaround me.” In the Chicago home of his youth, visitors included Duke Ellington,Count Basie and Lionel Hampton. Cole moved to New York in 1951, where hestudied at the Juillard School of Music and found himself profoundly influenced byJohn Lewis, Oscar Peterson and Teddy Wilson. He received a master’s degree fromthe New England Conservatory of Music and then spent several months on the roadas a member of an Earl Bostic band that also included Johnny Coles and BennyGolson.

It was back in New York that Cole successfully laid the groundwork for a career thatcontinues to flourish to this day. Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like hisbrother, Nat Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities. He plays piano andsings, and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice israspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the awesome shadow castby his elder brother. His vocals – suave, elegant, formidable and articulate - areamong the most respected in jazz.

John Delaney a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Irish group 'Barleycorn',joined forces with Alec DeGabriele nine years ago to form 'The New Barleycorn', after theother finished a 24 year run ending in 1995. John plays, 5 string and tenor banjos,mandolin, guitar, whistle and bodhran. He also has played banjo on many other Irishartists' recordings.

Alec DeGabriele spent his formative years learning the business of music, theatre andentertaining with his families traveling theatrical show, 'The Shannon Players', which waswell known and highly regarded throughout Ireland. Alec plays guitar and bass and wasthe band leader with a top Irish Show Band for some years before deciding to come to livein the U.S.A.

A versatilemusician, Paul has performed with Apollo's Fire, The Cleveland Orchestra, The ClevelandPops, numerous broadway shows, and has backed Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughn, AndyWilliams, Mel Torme and many others. Diego Figueiredo (pronounced fig-a-ray-doe) is considered one of the most talentedguitar players in the world today. Diego hasreleased over nineteen albums to date, three DVD’s, and several instructionalbooks. His music is a fusion between Jazz, Bossa Nova and Classical. Diego has performed in over fortycountries around the world.

Diego Figueiredo was born in Franca, Brazil in 1980. At the age of four he used tostrike poses carrying his small guitar. At six, he received a mandolin, which waskept in a very special place in his house. Diego played many instruments beforechoosing the electric guitar when he was twelve. By the age of fifteen, he wasplaying theaters and nightclubs throughout Brazil, playing both solo and with manyrenowned Brazilian musicians.

Most recently he accompanies the singer and songwriter Belchior in tours aroundBrazil and abroad, as well as with the French phenom Cyrille Aimée. Lyricist/jazz vocalist Lorraine Feather was born in New York, the daughter of jazzwriter Leonard Feather and goddaughter of Billie Holiday. Lorraine started hercareer as an actress in New York, transitioned into singing, and realized that lyricwriting was her greatest gift. She has had songs recorded by numerous artistsincluding Patti Austin, Diane Schuur and Cleo Laine, and has earned seven Emmynominations as a lyricist. Since 2001 she has focused on recording solo jazzalbums, first featuring the music of Fats Waller and Duke Ellington with her addedwords, then all-original material written with living composer collaborators.Lorraine’s Ages release was a 2011 Grammy nominee for Best Jazz Vocal Album;her newest solo CD, Tales of the Unusual, was a 2013 Grammy nominee in the BestInstrumental Arrangement accompanying Vocalist(s) category. DownBeat hascalled Lorraine “enchanting and exceptional” and All Music Guide has described

called Lorraine “enchanting and exceptional” and All Music Guide has describedher as “one of the most creative lyricists of her generation.”

St. Louis-born Stephanie Trick is a traditional jazz pianist and recording artist who“has come to practically dominate the stride piano field” (Jack Rummel, RagtimeMusic Reviews). Louis Mazetier, a noted interpreter of this physically and technicallydemanding style of jazz piano from the twenties and thirties, writes in the Bulletin ofthe Hot Club of France that she has “won the esteem of specialists in the genre withwonderful interpretations of stride classics, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and DonLambert (which she learned by ear).” He continues, “She plays these pieces with apunch that is matched by her precise interpretation.” A classically trained pianist,Stephanie began playing piano at the age of five. In high school, she discovered herfirst true passion – stride piano. She was awarded the New Talent Prize by the HotClub of France in 2011.

In May 2010, Lorraine discovered Stephanie through the recommendation of amusician fan who had become aware of the young pianist’s online performancevideos. The two became mutual long-distance fans, arranged a meeting inCalifornia to try out some material together, and decided to create Nouveau Stride,meeting over the course of two years whenever their schedules allowed goingthrough material that Lorraine might lyricize. The result is Fourteen, which includesmusic by James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, and living composers in thestride/ragtime genre. Jazz Times calls the reinvented classics “deliciously clever …wonderfully witty,” and the San Diego Reader praised Nouveau Stride’s recentmulti-media show at the San Diego Jazz Festival as “a contemporary ‘duo-summit’… a glorious tour-de-force.”

Dominick Farinacci recently released his Mack Avenue Records debut, "ShortStories" -- a compelling suite of music with a repertoire that spans genres andgenerations united by the trumpeter/composer's soulful conception. Bringingtogether songs from Tom Waits, Horace Silver, Dianne Reeves and the Gipsy Kingsas well as original compositions, Farinacci has managed to create his own musicaluniverse, aided by musicians of the highest caliber. All of the songs have anarrative that any listener can relate to.

Farinacci had already achieved enough stature by his mid-teens that WyntonMarsalis offered to help him set his sights on coming to New York, and by 2001,Farinacci was one of only four trumpeters in the world to be selected as theinaugural students in The Juilliard School's first jazz curriculum.

Life itself has many different sorts of mentorship built into it. A life in the arts can'texist without these kinds of relationships, and Short Stories is the fruit of the comingtogether of two kindred spirits, Farinacci and LiPuma, from the same home town(Cleveland, Ohio), separated by just under half a century in age. What unites themis a clear, moern aesthetic vision that combines the highest musical standards witha desire to be agents of change.

Amazingly, Farinacci found time during his Middle East years to also play anintegral role in the conception and build out of Cuyahoga Community College'sTommy LiPuma Center for Creative Arts.

Following up a sold-out Cleveland debut, vocalistShenel Johns brings together jazz, blues and gospel inher own unique way. Influenced by greats such as EllaFitzgerald, Nina Simone & Nancy Wilson, Shenel hasbeen a featured artist at Jazz at Lincoln Center NYC,festivals throughout Russia and in Doha, Qatar withDominick Farinacci.

Pianist and vibraphonist Christian Tamburr workedas musical director for Julio Iglesias, Cirque du Soleiland Penn & Teller in Las Vegas. His newest album“People Talk” topped the national jazz charts for twomonths, culminating in several national andinternational tours. He currently travels as CEO andlead presenter for Sonic Leadership, bringing uniquemusically inspired presentations on leadership and

training to companies around the world.

Cleveland native Jamey Haddad is one of the most influential percussionists of ourtime. He tours with Paul Simon, Sting and Yo-Yo Ma, is the Artistic Director forCleveland Orchestra’s “Friday’s at 7,” currently teaches at Oberlin Conservatory,and was voted “#1 World Percussionist” by Drum Magazine. Jamey is also therecipient of the 2010 Cleveland Arts Prize.

Hunter’s new album—and 18th as a leader—whimsically titled Everyone Has a PlanUntil They Get Punched in the Mouth, out July 22nd on GroundUP Music/Verve LabelGroup. The superlative ten-tune collection of songs—all originals except for onecover—is steeped in the blues and r&b. Hunter has enlisted a stellar support teamof trombonist Curtis Fowlkes, cornetist Kirk Knuffke and drummer Bobby Previtewho play live in the studio for optimum effect.

At turns Hunter’s new music takes on a noir feel, lopes in a fluid slow flow, chargesupbeat with a groove and horn interchange, twirls into a playful party mode, movesinto a gentle lyricism—all soaked in a blues sensibility and tone. “My idea was tomake a blues record,” says Hunter. “The concept was to play and not think of it asjazz, but an improvisation of the blues and r&b. This is not from a jazz harmonicplace, but straight blues and r&b improvising. It’s all done live in the same room. Nooverdubs and maybe just one edit where we fixed a note.”

As for that 11-word title, Hunter explains, “it’s a Mike Tyson quote. He’s talkingabout a specific boxing thing, but I feel that it applies to any life endeavor. It’s likesomeone coming out of music school and being presented with the reality ofmaking a living playing music. So that title is also the name of one of the songs. Infact, almost every name of a song on the record is a quote from someone,somewhere.”

Hunter was born in Rhode Island. When he was four his mom packed him and hisyounger sister in an old yellow school bus and headed west. After several yearsliving on a commune in Mendocino County they settled in Berkeley, California.Hunter graduated from Berkeley High School and took lessons from guitar teacherJoe Satriani. At eighteen he moved to Paris. Hunter says that it was his experiencebusking on the streets of Paris that provided him with "on the job training" becausehe busked for 8 to 12 hours a day to make ends meet. Returning to the Bay area,Hunter played a seven-string guitar and organ in Michael Franti's political rapgroup, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

After his first album, 1993’s Charlie Hunter Trio, released on pop artist LesClaypool’s Prawn Song label, Hunter was signed to Blue Note Records and releaseda total of eight albums in ten years. Everyone Has a Plan Until They Get Punched inthe Mouth marks a return to a bigger potential audience, thanks to the rise of theBrooklyn-based Snarky Puppy. The group’s bandleader, Michael League, has beena Hunter fan since he was in high school. “I had been hearing the band’s name but Ididn’t know what they were,” says Hunter. “Turns out there a great bunch ofmusicians and people.” Hunter played on one track of the Snarky Puppy album,Family Dinner Volume 2, and was asked by League to record an album for hisGroundUP Music label.

The Resurrected Tour tour starts in mid-April and will continue to the middle ofMay. Kinky will be performing with his uber sideman, Joe Cirotti. Key to Jordan’s fast-track acclaim was his mastery of a special technique on theguitar’s fretboard. Instead of conventional strumming and picking, Jordan'sinnovative "touch technique" is an advanced form of two-handed tapping. While ahandful of other players were using similar techniques, Stanley’s fluid, multi-layered textures and sheer virtuosity raised the bar for excellence.
