POTENTATE’SMESSAGE

Greetings To All:This month we all grieve the loss of some of our

Shrine family. We’re all saddened by the loss ofPast Potentate, Ill. Sir Joe Cole. Everyoneremembers fondly the fun person he was. Ourthoughts and prayers go out to our Oriental GuideBrad Cole and his Lady Andrea, and the entire Colefamily. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to JoeNew and family at the loss of our beloved Clemmiewho was a member of the Entertainment

Committee and an avid supporter of Ben Hur in so many ways. Finally, wordscannot express how saddened we are by the loss of our High Priest & Prophet,Max Stone. Max was one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known. Hisdevotion to his family, friends, and Ben Hur was immeasurable. As High Priest& Prophet he took on every project with a smile and saw it to successfulcompletion. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten. Our thoughts andprayers go out to Lady Lana and the entire Stone family as well.

Even though we’ve gone “dark” for the summer there are still plenty ofopportunities for you to come out and have fun. On June 14th at 4:00 p.m. wewill have our Victory Party. This will be a time to celebrate the success enjoyedby the various Ben Hur Units at TSA in Corpus Christi. We will have hamburgersand ice cream at Ben Hur. We’ll also have a dance with music provided byChris Powell. Also in June you’re welcome to attend parades in Lockhart onJune 13th, Stonewall on June 20th, and Luling on June 27th.

In July many of us will be attending the Imperial Session in Houston. The July5th - 9th Imperial Session is a great opportunity to enjoy the full experience ofbeing a Shriner. A schedule of events can be found atwww.imperial2015.com. If you happen to be in Houston as early as July 3rd,consider participating in the “Walk for Love” benefitting Shriners Hospitals forChildren - Houston/Galveston. For more information please go towww.walkforlove.org. We also have another parade in Lampasas on July 11th

which everyone is welcome to attend. In August we will have a Family Picnic on August 9th at The Little Red Barn in

Pflugerville. The picnic will be free to all Shriners, Masons, friends, andneighbors. There is also an adjacent water park with many activities for thekids. Also there will be a drawing for prizes. On August 22nd you will have anopportunity to attend our Lottery Party at Ben Hur. Finally, August is filledwith plenty of opportunities to attend more parades with Bastrop on August1st, Johnson City on August 15th, and Fredericksburg on August 21st.

Even though we may be “dark” during the summer months, there still is awide variety of activities to enjoy! Hope to see you there!

Doors open at 6:00p.m. This is an ice cream social and we will have doorprize items as well as a special award for the sellerwho turns in the most ad money on this date. Pleasecome out and support this circus. It literally is our mainbread and butter revenue source that funds our templeoperations.

It has been brought to my attention that on my AdLetter to the buyer it has the wrong sequential yearwhich is stated 67 years and it should be 68 years. Ialso have an updated list of the protected ads list andwhat seller sold which ad. If any of you sellers wouldlike copies of this information please contact medirectly at 512.922.0715 or email [email protected] and I will email theupdated files to you.

LOTTERY PARTY

The lottery party has been moved to August 22,2015 at Ben Hur. I am finalizing the details on this, but it will be like last year’s with the addition of a cashdrawing that you can join in on by paying an additional$25.00 per person on top of the lottery ticket costshould you want to participate. The house will keep 50percent of this revenue and I will pay out the rest intwo separate cash balances to be determined on howmuch this brings in.

This is a Super Saver Card event so if you have

one, your lottery party entrance is covered and if youwant to participate in the additional pot then you paythat at the door. The lottery party is also a dinnerevent and does include your drinks in addition to thelottery tickets. Please come out and support thisevent. I will publish more information on this in July.

MEMBERSHIPby Jeff Clark, Chairman

Brother Nobles,We have had an exciting year so far in

membership. We have had seven (7) newmembers come on board since January, and 75delinquent Nobles renewing there membership asof May 1st, 2015. We still need the assistance ofall Nobles to recruit new members. Remember, this is your Fraternity and the only way to keep it

going is to bring in new members and askdelinquent Nobles to pay there dues.

Keep in mind, my brothers, the Black Camel iscoming more frequently these days and it is hardto keep up. For every new member we get, theBlack Camel, unfortunately takes two. OurIllustrious Potentate Ed Bromstad is having a"CATCH THE FUN IN SHRINEDOM" campaignthis year so lets come on out to every ShrineFunction and have some FUN!

April Rally and TSRVA Results

The RV Club met at Skyline Ranch RV Park inBandera, Texas on Sunday, the 26th of April, for ourmonthly rally. Sunday was mostly uneventful due tosharing the park with 180 Casita RV’s at their annualrally. Most of them left Sunday afternoon but somestayed until Monday. Since we were all staying forTSRVA, this year’s host Alzafar arranged with the parkowners to park our rigs in the spot we would occupyduring TSRVA. That was very nice and we allappreciated it very much.

Tuesday afternoon we had our steak cookout. Sidedishes were brought by everyone along with desserts. The steaks were so big that one would feed twopeople. They were cooked to perfection and everyoneexpressed how good they were. Afterward we allplayed games and enjoyed great conversation.

Wednesday was our pot luck breakfast before themonthly meeting. The meeting was held in peace andharmony with all the world’s problems solved. Thatevening it was decided by all to attend the local steaknight at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar. We combinedwith members of Hella Temple and around 30 of us

brought steaks or othermeats to the bar for thecookout. We cooked ourown using their pits andbought the sides fromthem for six bucks. Theyhad a great band playingand we all had a nice timeeating and dancing thenight away. I think westayed out until the weehour of 9:00 p.m. andwent home wore out andsatisfied.

Thursday started thefirst day of TSRVA. Wespent the day registering, eating cookies, playinggames and re-acquaintingourselves with membersof all the Templespresent. Someone in ourgroup was hogging thesnickerdoodles Doesanyone know who thatwas?

Friday and Saturdaythe games were held and Ben Hur did very well in allevents. After the catered meal on Friday night we wereentertained by a Mariachi Band made up of HighSchool students in the San Antonio area. They weregreat. Saturday night was the banquet where all theawards were given out and we had another cateredmeal.

Overall, TSRVA was a great event hosted byAlzafar. Everyone agreed that they will be hard tocompete with next year. It is Ben Hur’s turn to host itnext year. Our 2016 President, Byron Betncourt hashis work cut out for him. We plan to host the event inMontgomery, Texas, at the KOA Campground. It is aFirst Class park and we hope everyone will come outand help us put on a great event.

Please accept myhumblest apologies for notwriting an article for the firsthalf of the year. I was toldthat the Assistant Rabbanyear was supposed to bean “easy” year. Nofundraisers to coordinate,no parties to plan, no stress…. I am here to tell you thathas not been the case forme this year!

I enjoyed working withMax Stone, our High Priest and Prophet, on thecharitable fundraisers this year. I will mourn theloss of Max for some time to come. He was a trueblessing to the craft, and this temple, and his lossis profound.

Members of the Board of Directors are electedto represent the interests of the Nobility. TheAssistant Rabban is supposed to plan their ChiefRabban events for the following year. I will besending an email shortly, that I request that yourespond to regarding a survey. I want tounderstand whatactivities you, theN o b l e s , a r einterested in so thatI can effectivelyserve you andrepresent as manyof the differentinterests of theNobles as I can.

I would also liketo take a moment tothank the Ladies ofthe temple for all oftheir hard work andstepping up in forceto help every timethey have beenasked. You truly arean amazing groupand I am heartenedto see your altruisticspirit at our fraternaland philanthropicevents.

June, July, and

August, our Shrine will be “dark”. This doesn’tmean there won’t be any chance to see mysmiling face for three months. In fact, in June youcould see it every Saturday! Mark your calendarand plan to come join in the fun of parade season-June, July and August. Sure it will be a littlewarm, but the smile on the kids faces, theparent/grandparent that comes up and tells theirstory of how Shriners helped their family, and theopportunity to help the communities celebrate bybringing laughter and cheer is so worth it! Anotherchance to spend some time with me, and myfamily, will be at Imperial in Houston this July. This year Imperial has invited families to comeand join in the fun. There’s even an App for That! Search the Apple store for Shriners 2015 ImperialSession to learn all about the fun events plannedfor this year. Then in August, the Family Picnicand the Lottery Party will give you even moreopportunities to see my smiling mug. Hope tosee y’all throughout the summer!

Yours in Faith,

Russell Sellers
