Conservation Assistance Program

• Began as a partnership between the National Park Service and the Energy Corridor District in January 2008 to develop a West Houston Trails Master Plan

• 6 mile radius subject area centered at State Highway 6 and IH-10 encompasses 113,000 acres

• Public governing bodies in the area include USACE, Harris County Public Infrastructure, Harris County Flood Control, Harris County Pct 3, Harris County Pct 4, COH Public Works and Engineering, Planning and Development, Houston Parks & Recreation and 58 Municipal Utility Districts.





Goal # 1- West Houston Trails Master Plan

Goal # 1 is to identify current shared-use trail systems within a 6-mile radius of IH-10 and SH 6 that are located at least in part within natural resource conservation areas and provide outdoor recreational opportunities. This goal would also prioritize the future connectivity between these shared-use trails/ park systems and increase recreational opportunities by providing additional opportunities for bike-to-work commuters. Decreasing motorized vehicle commuting would increase resource conservation through reduced fuel consumption and lessened infrastructure demands thus improving the quality of life in West Houston.





Goal # 2- North Eldridge Parkway Trail

Goal # 2 is to design and construct a shared-use trail that provides a safe north/ south route for pedestrians and cyclists between the shared-use trails/ park systems north and south of the Addicks Dam.
