In the 2nd Reading this weekend we hear a famil-iar scripture passage from Romans. “If God is for us who can be against us?” God loves us so much that he handed his son over to us all. On the Mount of Transfiguration, a mountain top experi-ence, Jesus along with his disciples find them-selves in the midst of a God moment where Jesus

is transfigured before them with Moses and Elijah in glory. “Listen to him”. “This is my beloved Son”. In the Lenten season we are called to give over to Jesus our worldly ways and desires, our sins and failures in order to be forgiven and reconciled. Jesus’ glory continues in our lives. Peace, Fr. Bryan

Weekly Bible Reflection … 2nd Sunday of Lent

“Here I am! He answered.” - Genesis 22:11

It is easy to say, “Here I am, Lord,” when we are kneeling in church. But how easy is it to say “Here I am, Lord,” when a neighbor needs our help, when we are invited to join a parish ministry, or when we are asked to provide financial support? Often times we are called when it’s not convenient for us. Disci-pleship is not always easy, most of the time it will make us un-comfortable and vulnerable.

**************************************************** Congratulations! Gene & Barb Meismer are the winners of this week’s St. Luke’s School calendar drawing.

CHAPLET OF MERCY —JOIN US!

Each Sunday of Lent, Lynnette Powers will be praying the Chaplet of Divine Mer-

cy in song at 3:00 in the Church. Please join for 20 minutes of a powerful appeal to the mercy of God in light of the Cross of Jesus Christ.

The Season of Lent is a preparation for the celebration of Easter. By the threefold disci-pline of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer the church keeps Lent from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday. All of the faith-ful and the catechumens should undertake seri-

ous practice of these three traditions. On weekdays of Lent, we strongly recommend participation in daily Mass and a self-imposed observance of fasting. We urge particularly during Lent, generosity to local, national, and world programs of sharing of all things needed to translate our duty to penance into a means of implementing the right of the poor to their part of our abun-dance. (U.S. Bishops statement on penitential observances, 1966)

LENTEN REGULATIONS The regulations for Lent are much the same as in past years those who completed their 18th birthday are bound to observe the law of FAST on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these two days those bound to fast are allowed only one full but meatless meal. Two other meatless meals suffi-cient to maintain health and strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. On Ash Wed. and Good Friday, eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are al-lowed. The obligation to FAST ceases at the beginning of one’s 60th year. Everyone over 14 years of age is bound to observe the Law of Abstinence on Ash Wed. and all Fridays in Lent. On these days of Abstinence, meat and soup or gravy made from meat may not be taken at all. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, these regulations of Fast and Absti-nence do not oblige, but we should not lightly hold ourselves ex-cused from these penitential practices.
