You have seen our beautiful Mayer windows for years, but how much do you know about them? This weekly series will test your knowledge of these treasured posessions.

Q: At the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel gave us the opening lines to what beloved prayer?

See next week’s bulletin for the answer.

Answer to last window question:

The carol says Baby Jesus was “asleep on the hay” but Mayer & Co. artists followed Correggio’s lead and placed Jesus on stalks of wheat. The painting on which this nave window is based is “The Holy Night” by Antonio Da Correggio (1489 – 1534).

Home Works relies on prayers, funding and volunteers to repair homes. $ 2,500 is the average amount of out-of-pocket expenses, funds from the bank account, which are spent on a home. This does not include in-kind donations such as volunteer labor or donated services for electrical tasks, received from Cashion Electricians or for plumbing tasks, received from Superior Plumbing.

Home Works received the Good Angel Award from the South Carolina Secretary of State to acknowledge that 98 cents of every dollar is spent on Program Expenses - paint, shingles, lumber, etc. Home Works 2013 Budget exceeds $ 500,000 and currently there is a deficient.

Funds are needed for: > Roofing, $ 2,555 > Ramp, $ 1,250 > Bathroom, $ 874 > Painting, $ 566

Donations of $ 50 or $ 5,000 or more provide the setting for youth and adult volunteers to not only repair a home but more importantly convey a message of hope. Please consider making a donation, here is the link http://www.homeworksofamerica.org/donate/

As Home Works’ days begin and end in prayer, so does this email. Dear Heavenly Father, thanks you for my gifts and talents. Help me to use these treasures to build your kingdom.

Blessings,

Hank ChardosProgram Director and Founder(803) 781-4536, office(803) 206-6974, cell

Keep These People in your Prayers

Prayer List The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist December 29, 2013

A Christmas Thank YouMany thanks are extended to all of the parishioners who so graciously volunteered their time and talent to help with decorating our cathedral for this Christmas Season. Our volunteers did so much – running errands, ordering supplies,

collecting greenery, assembling trees and stringing lights, decorating and hanging wreaths and garland, setting up the crèche, arranging poinsettias, making greenery arrangements, and then dis-assembling it all until next year. Your help and teamwork were invaluable in accomplishing a huge and very important task. Thank you so very much for the energy, enthusiasm and joy you shared!

The Decorating Committee would also like to thank the following businesses who supported us with generous donations:

Hyam’s Garden Center – four beautiful fresh Christmas trees; BiLo (445 Meeting Street), Food Lion (1420 King St), & Harris Teeter (290 East Bay St) – donations of fresh fruit for our wreaths, garland and arrangements ; and Home Depot (West Ashley) – Christmas tree cuttings. It is truly a blessing to be able to partner with our community businesses. Thank you all for your support and generosity! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all from the Cathedral Christmas Decorating committee!

Coastal Catholic Charities would like to express our gratitude for all of you who have, and continue to, support our organization! Because of your magnanimous financial and time donations, we are able to successfully operate the following programs for low-income residents of the Tri-County area: subsidized vision screenings/glasses; subsidized dental cleanings and dentures; a food pantry for those 60 years of age and older; prescription assistance; and a free monthly wellness clinic. We profoundly appreciate your willingness to help us serve!
