SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
May 24, 2020
Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord: Reading I: Acts 1:1-11; Responsorial Psalm: 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9; Reading II: Ephesians 1:17-23; Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20
From the Rector’s Desk...
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Welcome back to the Cathedral! I am very glad that we can resume the celebration of public Masses in the Diocese and I know that you are as well. It has been a very difficult and trying couple of months for everyone during this pandemic. If you have not had the chance to read the Protocols for Celebrating the Liturgy amid COVID19, you can find them on the parish website (www.covcathedral.com). Please read the protocols carefully. Things will not be same as they were before the pandemic hit in regard to the celebration of Mass. The number one concern as we gather again at Mass is the safety and health of the people of God.
Because of the need for social distancing at the Cathedral, we will only be able to have a maximum capacity of less than one third of the normal capacity. When you come to Mass, the ushers will help to seat you. We ask that perhaps some parishioners consider attending the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass, or the 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass, since they are the least attended of the four Masses. We also strongly encourage parishioners to wear a face covering and arrive for Mass earlier than normal so they can easily be seated by the ushers. Bishop Howard Memorial Auditorium will be set up for an overflow crowd if it is needed. The Mass will be live streamed there and a minister will take Holy Communion to those present there. The Basilica will be sanitized after every Mass.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Cathedral parish and for your prayers. Together with one mind and heart we place our trust in the Lord!
Fr. Maher
Message from the Cathedral’s St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Conference – Many thanks to you for your continued support of our SVdP Conference. Our home visit teams have remained steady during the pandemic, delivering food and supplies to families-in-need via social distancing, telephoning, and food drives. Your prayers, thoughtfulness, and generosity truly make a difference in our community. As usual, in future bulletins, we’ll update you on pantry needs.
With sincere gratitude,Jack Alig, President Cathedral Conference
Saturday Morning Prayer Group – Meetings are suspended until further notice.
May 24 – Happy 90th Birthday to Mrs. Joan Hadorn, longtime Cathedral parishioner!
The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption’s Saturday 4:30 Vigil Mass is taped and broadcast at 5:00 p.m. every Sunday on: WLWT – channel 5-2 ME-TV; Cincinnati Bell Fioptics – channel 23 and 291; Spectrum – Northern KY channel 188; Spectrum – Hamilton County – channel 993. ME-TV is an affiliate of NBC/WLWT. The airing covers the Diocese of Covington, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, partially the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Diocese of Lexington.
Care of the Sick – If you know of a parishioner who is in the hospital or care center who would like a visit from the parish clergy, please contact Sister Barbara Woeste at the Parish Office. Because of the privacy laws often times we do not receive a phone call from the institution. We rely on family or friends to let us know when someone is in the hospital.

If that goal is reached, the first place winner will take home $14,000.00; second place, $2,800.00; and third-place, $1,200.00. Winners will be drawn on June 13, 2020. Tickets can be purchased online at the parish website (https://www.staugustines.net/) or by mailing a check to St. Augustine Parish Office, 413 West 19th Street, Covington, KY 41014; or by stopping by the St. Augustine Parish Office, open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., each weekday.
