Prayers for Our Churches 2020

You are encouraged to be praying for the churches and

pastors of the South District. Several churches will be

listed each month for your prayer covering. It is

encouraging to know that other churches are praying

with and for each other. Please pray for the pastors,

congregation, and community.

JANUARY: St. Mark’s UMC, Tucson

St. Francis in the Foothills UMC, Tucson

Desert Skies UMC, Tucson

Over the next few months, Andrew Colby and

Pastor Matt, may ask if you would be willing

to have your picture taken after worship, or at other

gatherings. It is an effort to update our database for our church

and help us stay connected. Your picture goes along with your

profile and contact information which they may also ask you to

make sure you have updated that information as well such as

you have moved, you have new phone number or new email

address. It is also very important that you have listed an

emergency contact, and also a family member who lives outside

your home to be contacted if physical or mental health issues

develop. If you would prefer, you may send in your own picture

along with any new information: address, phone number, email

address, birthday, emergency contact, family member

contact. Your help will assist our whole church be able to stay

in contact and work together as a family.

Congratulations Catalina! Our first "Market on the Move" event at the church parking lot saw

31 of our neighbors from around the church stop by to purchase surplus produce. By our

rough calculations, we kept approximately 1200 lbs of food from being wasted in the landfills,

and we also raised a little money for our efforts. Thank you volunteers, Foster & Diane Good,

Sarah DeVanna, Judy Wingert, and Maggie Campos. Our next Market on the Move event will

be Saturday, February 8th, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. It will likely be bigger, better, (and

warmer). We need some more volunteers to help out. Come early; the best produce sells

out fast.

Chocolate Heaven Sunday Feb. 9 $5 a plate

Catalina United Methodist Women will be selling delicious homemade chocolate on Sunday, February 9th. Sales of plated chocolate for $5 will take place after each service. Proceeds go to missions helping women and children of our community.

From the Desk of Dottie,

January 2020

Dear Catalina,

It’s a new year, and a new decade! And we have adopted an expansion of our working motto:

Catalina Cares…

Serving God by serving others

As we go deeper in our understanding of what it means to really care for each other and for God’s

people, the scripture focuses us. Micah 6:8 says:

And what does the Lord require of you

But to do justly,

To love mercy,

And to walk humbly with your God? (NRSV)

This year, as we take this mandate to heart, we will easily remember it with this shortened version:

Do Justice

Love Mercy

Walk Humbly

And so, we will expand the understanding of “Catalina cares” by:

Loving God, neighbor, and self

Caring for God’s world an people

Being a faith community that humbly lives out justice and mercy.

FOCUS FOR 2020:

Some things we need to focus on this year as we live that out are:

1. Communicate with Tucson that we are a church that welcomes ALL (we are a Reconciling Church),

works for justice and mercy, cares for the earth, and walks humbly in the world.

2. Increase our acts of justice, mercy, earth-care, and walking humbly in the world.

EX: Do something meaningful for our neighbors in the park

Increase our diversity, including LGBTQAI

Go on a Borderland Tour with Pastor Dottie

Find ways to care for the earth

3. Find community partners for our building. We have a large, old, and beautiful building that is mostly empty during the week. When we find some ministry partners to share the load of the building costs, we will benefit by decreased costs and by community engagement.

2020 brings a new year, and a new hope, and a new way to be together. May God lead us, and may we be humble, as we live out Jesus’ work of justice and mercy in our world.

Your Pastor,

Dottie

Your pastor,
