How your AZ Tax Credit Helps Blenman School

Blenman Elementary School has long partnered with Catalina United

Methodist Church to support our students. We have a very high needs

population of students from diverse cultures and backgrounds as well as

students from low economic homes. When the community supports our

students, we all benefit from their growth in education. Our tax credit

donations are used directly to support our students in physical

education, fine arts and dance, technology, and afterschool programs

such as chess, gardening, and tutoring. We appreciate all of your support

in providing Blenman Elementary students with your tax credit

donations.

Married couples can contribute up to $400, individuals up to $200 per

year, for public school tax credit in Arizona. You can mail or drop a check

off here to us at school (1695 N Country Club Rd) and we will send you a

tax credit letter in the mail.

Thank you Catalina Methodist for all you do for Blenman students,

Kelly Mack, Principal at Blenman Elementary School

PRIMAVERA MEN’S SHELTER DINNER

Greetings Catalina Men! Who is in town on Saturday, December 28th and would like to help share

the holiday spirit with some of Tucson's homeless and hungry men? Every month, our United

Methodist Men shop, prepare, and serve a hot meal to as many as 100 men at the Primavera

Shelter. I need three men who can help me from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The work is not hard, but

does require standing for about 4 hours. Are you interested? Please contact Doug Wingert

at [email protected] or call me at 520.909.1549.

New Members Class — TODAY, Dec., 8

and Dec. 15, 2019 at 10:10 am in the Library. Is it

time for you to join Catalina United Methodist Church? A 2-

part class, on consecutive Sundays, Dec 8th and 15th, at

10:10 am, in the Library will give you information about the

United Methodist Church, Catalina UMC, what it means to be

a member. Sessions will be facilitated by Kirk Reid and

Squirrel Lovelady. New Member Sunday is the 1st Sunday in

January. Start 2020 by becoming part of the Catalina

community. A second session of the class will be offered Jan.

26th and Feb. 2nd. YOU ARE WELCOME HERE.

Please let the office know if you or a loved one is hospitalized and would like a visit from one of our pastors.

TODAY

Report from the Finance Committee:

Revenues are $14,674 short of our approved budgeted amount as of October 31, 2019. Non-pledged giving continued to fall behind and pledged giving is still above budget projections, but that could shrink as we approach the end of the year since some members gave their yearly allotment at the beginning of the year.

Expenses are $14,962 above our approved budgeted amount YTD. This is due to unexpected and very large expenditures related to fixing the HVAC system.

Our thanks goes out to Laurie Campbell and Dean Wingert for leading our Stewardship Campaign. Please prayerfully consider pledging your financial gifts to Catalina. It’s not too late to turn in a pledge card.

Michael Guymon, Chair

Are You a Martha?

Do you like to hostess? Do you like to bake? We

are looking for additional people to help host

memorial services as they occur for the church.

We usually have two hostesses who set up, plate

and monitor the cookies, provide punch, and clean

up afterwards. Others volunteer to provide

cookies when called upon. If either of these

Christian support activities appeals to you, please

call the church office at 327-4296 to leave your

name and contact information. If you want to be a

hostess, training will be provided.

From the Desk of Dottie, Dear Catalina,

In the season of Advent, we have many expectations. Expectations for family gatherings, hope for gifts, and traditions at church. These are the things that form memory and hope for the future.

I wonder what the expectations were for Mary and Joseph. Were they hoping for a healthy child and a warm hotel room? Did they want to get back home to their families where they could get support raising their coming child? Did they just want a normal delivery?

What Mary and Joseph got instead of their expected hopes was so different! They got a delivery in a stable with a manger for a crib. They received a visit from the shepherds on the hillside who bowed before their child. They heard the angel chorus singing in the sky! And later, they received gifts from Wise Folk who traveled from far away!

Sometimes our expectations and hopes for this season are less than what God wants to give us.

This Advent-Christmas season, my prayer for you is that you are surprised by the way God meets you and yours!

Happy Advent!

Your Pastor,

Dottie

Thanks to the 23 volunteers who came to help make PB and J sandwiches on Nov. 22nd.

Not that this event is really timed, but 1200 sandwiches were made in just over an hour!! Way to go

FROM THE CATALINA FOUNDATION – Jean Guyman, Chair

Our Catalina United Methodist Foundation was created in 1958 to support the missions and programs, and building maintenance of CUMC, and to provide scholarships for church members and ministerial candidates. The Foundation is about estate planning and providing people a way to help church missions in their wills or giving for specified purposes. The current trend in estate planning has shifted to “specified term” so that the initial gift (principle) doesn't stay locked up forever in the Foundation. The Foundation provides a means for people to find the fund (or purpose) that speaks best for them -- scholarships, missions, or just the church itself. There are 3 types of giving – gifts for immediate use, enduring endowment and specified term (the available folder will have details for study). Specified term is recommended because the gift is completely used in a specified amount of time. With a gift of $5000 or more you can designate your own fund and purpose. Please consider The CUMC Foundation in your end-of-year and estate planning.
