ViolinViolin is usually the first choice of musicians who

wants to learn a string instrument.The violin is a string instrument which is played

with a bow. It has four strings.It is held between the left collar bone (near the

shoulder) and the chin. Different notes are made by fingering with the

left hand while bowing with the right. It has no frets or other markers. Players have to learn the exact place to put the fingers of the left hand and memorise them.

The violin is the smallest and highest pitched string instrument. A person who plays the violin is called a violinist

Viola The viola is slightly larger than the violin and has a deeper pitch in comparision. It is also in the “middle register” of the string family.

The viola sounds lower than a violin, but higher than a cello.

Although not as popular as the violin, it is still a vital part of the orchestra.The Viola is also known as the Cinderella of the orchestra.

CelloThe cello is bigger than viola and violin.

It’s has a beautiful,mellow sound. The cello must rest on the floor because it

is too big to be hold like the violin or viola.Its name comes from the Italian language,

so it is pronounced “chello”. The full word is violoncello, but when speaking, people normally call it the “cello”.

A person who plays the cello is called a “cellist”.
