Our second group of 5th grade students is preparing for their middle school transition and we could not be more proud of their progress.

The end of our second year also marks the departure of the first members of our school's PTO who started to work long before the walls of the building were erected. We sad-ly bid adieu to Elizabeth Franklin, Beth Robertson and Suzanne Burch as they usher their children to middle school. For the upcoming school year, we welcome

a new PTO board who will continue to plan

great events and activities for our students

and school.

Students and teachers are embracing

the use of personal devices being

brought to school for learning. Teach-

ers are guiding activities across all

subjects to enhance lessons and excite

students. Bring Your Own Technology

(BYOT) at Cardinal Ridge is taking

flight. Through careful planning and

guidance students are collaborating

and creating with curriculum material

like never before. Please help us

continue to enhance this incredible

program by supporting your students

in their use of personal devices for

learning. If possible (apple and

android) download apps for: Wixie,

Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel),

Raz-Kids, IA iTest, and DreamBox.

Ensure that your student’s device can

access the internet through a web

browser such as: Google Chrome,

Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, or

Safari. Installing anti-virus software is

also recommended. Finally, use that

device to access the “Student” tab on

the Cardinal Ridge Webpage. This

page serves as our launch page for

learning with computers. Students

and parents can also be using these

resources at home.

Visiting Cardinal Ridge

Parents are welcome to visit the school at any time, however, to adhere to LCPS security measures, please be sure to sign in and collect a visitor’s sticker in the office before heading to your destination. Please con-tact teachers by email or telephone to schedule a meeting if you require time to confer regarding your children.

Dismissal Changes

We realize that emergencies happen, but we ask your cooperation in avoiding last minute early dismis-sal requests. Please avoid calling after 2:00 pm for changes in transportation plans as it is more chal-lenging to ensure that teachers have the most current information to route students to their place destina-tion.

LOST AND FOUND The Lost and Found is located right outside of the library. Please have your children check it for items that may have been misplaced. All unclaimed items will be donated a charitable organization at the end of the school year.

IMMUNIZATIONS

5th Grade Parents

The Commonwealth of Virginia requires that all students entering middle school and high school must

have received a diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine booster unless the student has received a

Tdap vaccine after the age of seven years. Only one dose of the Tdap booster is required after the age of

seven years, regardless of the interval since the last dose of pertussis-containing vaccine. Please note

that Tdap is a different vaccine than the DTaP vaccine.

Immunizations may be obtained from your physician, military clinics, or the Loudoun County

Health Department. The Loudoun County Health Department will provide the immunizations that are re-

quired for school attendance at no cost. The Health Department is located in the Shenandoah Building at 102 Heritage Way, N.E.,

Suite 100, Leesburg, (phone number: 703-777-0236). Immunizations are administered by appointment. If you

choose to go to the Health Department for this immunization, you must bring a current immunization

record.

In addition, Loudoun County Public Schools is collaborating with the Loudoun County Health

Department to sponsor a free Tdap vaccine clinic at J. L. Simpson Middle School in Leesburg on Satur-

day, August 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Tdap vaccine is free, but parents must accompany their

child to the clinic and bring the child’s insurance card if the child has medical insurance. Only the Tdap

vaccine will be administered and appointments are not required.

For rising sixth graders, documentation of the Tdap vaccine booster should be given to the nurse or

health clinic specialist at your child’s elementary school this school year. If your child will not receive

the Tdap vaccine booster before the end of this school year, documentation should be given to the mid-

dle school or high school this summer. Your child will not be allowed to start school without this im-

munization or a medical exemption.

A list of students who require this immunization will be provided to each middle school at the end of

this school year. There will be no grace period for your child to begin middle school on August 29,

2016, without this vaccine.

All new seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students will be required to have docu-

mentation of a Tdap vaccine booster prior to the start of school year 2016-2017. Students must have

documentation of this immunization in order to begin school on August

29, 2016. There will be no grace period for your child to begin school on August 29 without this vac-

cine.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s physician or the local health department.

Red Wings Rescuers

We are thrilled with the growth of our

Red Wings Rescuer program this year

at Cardinal Ridge Elementary. Thank

you for all the dads who participated

and volunteered for this program. Your

flexibility and help with various tasks is

greatly appreciated! The staff and stu-

dents enjoyed having you in the build-

ing as positive male role models. This

program would not be possible without

your interest and participation. Thank

you to all the Red Wings Rescuers of

2015-2016!!!
