Quantitative studies ofbehaviour are fundamental inour effort to understand brainfunction and malfunction.Recently, the techniques forstudying behaviour, alongwith those for monitoring andmanipulating neural activity, have progressed rapidly. Thiscourse is a practical “hands-on” introduction to advancedmethods in behaviouraltrackingandanalysisinarangeofmodelorganisms(zebrafish, fliesandrodents).Wewillcoversufficient background suchthatparticipantswillbeabletoestablish these techniques intheirhomelaboratories.

ComputationalNeuroscienceis a rapidly evolving fieldwhose methods andtechniques are critical forunderstandingandmodellingthe brain, and also fordesigning and interpretingexperiments. Mathematicalmodeling is an essentialtool to cut through the vastcomplexityofneurobiologicalsystems and their manyinteracting elements. Thecourse teaches the centralideas, methods, andpracticesof modern computationalneuroscience through acombination of lectures andhands-onprojectwork.
