12:00 pm – 6:30 pm Registration Open

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm “I Don’t Hire the Firm, I Hire the Lawyer.” Personal Branding and You

Speakers: Patty Oien & Kelly Burke

Prospective clients may be intrigued by your firm’s background, experience and industry standing, but oftentimes the final hiring decision hinges on the lawyer they’ll work with day-to-day. You’ll be evaluated and valued in each instance on much more than just your experience. In this session we will discuss personal branding, touching on why it is important, how to be viewed as a leading voice in your practice area, and how to encourage this within your firm.

2:00 pm – 2:15 pm Break

2:15 pm – 3:30 pm Modern Leadership

Speaker: Kelly Burke

Leading doesn’t quite translate literally anymore. The modern leader leads while standing next to their peers. They lead as a mentor, through collaboration, good communication, and encouragement. With increasing attrition rates and communication challenges, we will use this session to explore the attributes of the successful leaders of today and tomorrow.

3:30 pm – 3:45 pm Break

3:45 pm – 5:15 pm Achieving the Work/Life Balance

Speaker: Dr. Patty Bay

The demands of a career in the legal profession can make it difficult to create balance in your life. It can place a strain on relationships, family and friendships. If you wait until problems exist to try to fix things, it is often too late. Learn how to identify imbalances and some concrete, proactive skills to correct those issues for you and your firm.

9:00 am – 10:00 am How Your IT Security and IT Insurance Work Together

Speakers: George Passidakis, Scott Putnam, and Kevin Sullivan

Law firm cybersecurity is no longer an obscure topic of the past. It is here and will forever be a part of the law firm landscape. Are you protected? Are you meeting the requirements of your cybersecurity insurance? Where insurance can and cannot help. What measures do you have in place? Learn from industry leaders in this interactive session as to why your firm needs BOTH IT security and insurance.

10:00 am – 10:15 am Break

10:15 am – 12:15 pm Managing in the Era of #Hashtags: Recognizing and Responding to Sexual Harassment

Speaker: Terry Leoni

In response to movements like #MeToo, #TimesUp, and #WeSaidEnough, California legislators enacted a host of laws to address often unchecked and unreported sexual harassment and discrimination. One such bill was SB1343, which requires employers with at least five or more employees to provide two hours of sexual harassment prevention training to all supervisory employees and one hour of sexual harassment prevention training to all non-supervisory employees by January 1, 2020, and once every two years thereafter. This program will meet this mandated requirement for supervisory employees, with a focus on supervisors in the legal industry. Real-world hypotheticals will be used to ensure supervisors are appropriately recognizing and responding to sexual harassment and discrimination.
