It’s Term 3, which means that most of you will be hidden away revising for the exam-packed weeks ahead! But for those of you who have a few moments to spare to read this edition of The Bubble, don’t forget there’s still a lot to look forward to in your Union this term.

The Library is now open 24/7, and we have the Rootes Learning Grid opening too, so don’t worry if you’re struggling to find a spot to study on campus. Equally, keep an eye out for the ‘Feel Good’ campaign, as we are here to support you if you’re worried about exams or if you need any tips on the best survival strategies during Term 3.

We’re crunching the data from the recent Time’s Up survey and we’ll be getting the results to your academic reps as soon as it’s ready, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Aside from all this, the team at Warwick SU wish you the best of luck in any exams or essays. Don’t forget that we’re still running an ents programme in the run-up to the SUMMER PARTY!

intro • news in brief • kick - the startup careers fair

thursday week 2Running from 12pm - 3pm in the SU Atrium on Thursday 2nd May, Kick is a student-run event which showcases the “alternative” options that you don’t see at the traditional University-led careers fairs.

Whether you are looking for an internship, graduate career or wanting to start your own business, Kick is the place to be!

You’ll talk to growing startups and the founders behind them, as well as respected incubators who are creating the next

big entrepreneurs. Even if you are not looking for a job, come along still and have a wander - you might be inspired, and will

definitely leave with a pocketful of business cards!

news in briefcinderella the opera week 1Following unprecedented demand, 5-star reviews and a sell-out January run, Opera Warwick’s hugely successful production of Cinderella returns for a limited run at the start of Term 3 - more orange, more obscene and more outrageous than ever before!

outstanding contribution award - nominations openDo you know a final-year student who manages to find the time to campaign for good causes, raise enormous amounts of money for charities, start a small business, or work with local charities? If so, you can nominate them for an Outstanding Student Contribution Award to recognise their efforts!

WATEPGR teaching awards - nominations now openThe WATEPGR 2013 scheme has launched to celebrate teaching excellence amongst Postgraduate Research students. The awards recognise and celebrate those who demonstrate outstanding teaching skills, and nominations can be made by both staff and students for any teaching activity (including facilitating

seminars, demonstrating and project supervision). For more info visit warwick.ac.uk/insite/news/intnews2/wate_pgr.

The judging panel are looking for students who have made an exceptional contribution to the University or its work with another organisation outside of their studies. Any member of the University community, staff or student, can nominate a student for the award, and the closing date for nominations is Monday 20th May 2013.

Award winners will receive an iPad or equivalent, and the awards will be presented at the degree ceremony at which the winner graduates! See warwick.ac.uk/insite/news/intnews2/osca_2013 for more info.

The show will be on at 7:30pm in the Arts Centre Theatre from Thursday 25th to Sat 27th April inclusive - tickets are available now online and via the Arts Centre box office!

All this plus a free fairground, a Secret Stage featuring acoustic performers and student DJs, the rather snappily-named

Curiositipi, the Bar Tent, a late-night After-Party in The Copper Rooms - and, of course, a host of inflatables to get

thoroughly silly on in the afternoon sun!

Tickets cost £39 for the entire day and are on sale now - to check out all the acts, find out more about what to expect across the site and to snap up your ticket, head to www.warwicksu.com/summerparty!

SUNDAY 23RD JUNE | WEEK 9

For some of you, Term 3 marks the end of an era as you get ready to leave ‘the bubble’ and head out into the big wide world – and so what better way to

celebrate than by taking a trip back with us to celebrate the decadence of one of

modern history’s greatest epochs?

This year’s Graduation Ball takes place at a suitably swanky venue off-campus on Thursday 20th June (Week 9) and will transport you back to the glitz and glamour of the 1920s – the era of The

Great Gatsby, carefree debauchery and, of course, good times in high society! Don your finest tux, gown or flapper-girl outfit for an evening of classy dinner & dancing which will feature a delicious 5-course meal, live entertainment, Charleston dancers, spectacular décor and much,

much more!

Tickets include return transport and go on sale on Monday 22nd April at 12noon

via the SU website – they always sell out well in advance, so make sure you don’t

miss out!

(Please note that tickets for the Graduation Ball are only available to Current Finalists and their guests.)

THURSDAY 20TH JUNE | WEEK 9

that you’re in for a treat!

feet tapping all night

There are some things in life which can always be relied upon. The sun always rises in the morning and sets at night. Wile E Coyote never catches the Road Runner. And Skool Dayz always, always sells out each and every time…

Why is this? Is it the opportunity to get well and truly silly to a soundtrack of the dodgiest hits of the 90s and 00s while wearing an ill-fitting school uniform? Is it the fact that it’s guaranteed to be packed to the rafters with 2000 students, all having the time of their lives while singing along to the Spice Girls? Or is it, in fact, that infernal Disney medley…?

There’s only one way to answer these questions, and that’s to make sure you don’t get chumpatized by missing out on an advance ticket when Warwick’s most popular night returns in Week 2!

Buy your ticket online now for only £5 at www.warwicksu.com/events.

Allow us to ask you a few pertinent style questions. Mullet, Madonna bangles, MJ glove or George Michael jacket? When it comes to busting out the moves, which of these do you prefer: the Locomotion, the Safety Dance or simply to ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’? And can you “push it” – push it real good? At FLASHBACK, we invite you to get truly footloose and fancy-free as we fire up the flux capacitor and floor the gas to 88mph in order to relive the decade that time & taste forgot: the glorious 1980s. What a feeling!

With sartorially-challenged DJ Miami Nice on the decks all night and classic arcade games providing you with the ideal opportunity to brush up on your hand-eye coordination while blasting some pesky alien invaders, Flashback is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most enjoyable and unmissable student events in the local area! Survey2013

A massive thanks to everyone who took the time to fill in our annual membership survey, Help Us Help You, during the last few weeks of Term 2. We’ll be mulling over your comments in the coming months and look forward to putting your suggestions into practice over the next year or so!

We'll shortly be starting a dialogue with you about the entertainments programme here at the SU. While events such as Pop! and Skool Dayz are more popular than they’ve ever been, it’s become apparent that some of our Friday night events have not proved as popular - and we’re interested to know what we can do (and should) be doing to improve.

In the meantime, don’t forget that it benefits YOU directly to use the SU’s commercial outlets - The Copper Rooms, The Dirty Duck, The

Bread Oven, Xananas, The Terrace Bar and Curiositea – since all the money that’s spent in each of these outlets is directly reinvested back into

non-profit services for students: clubs & societies, Advice & Welfare, academic representation, staffing, facilities and much more. It’s your Union,

but you’ll only ever get as much out of it asyou’re prepared to put in!

For more on this issue, check out the Helping Us Help You article on the SU homepage - and stay tuned for more on your feedback coming soon!
