Dear Parishioners, Today, Friday 19 June, the parish celebrated the funeral of Joan Tathem. Joan was a very long standing and respected parishioner, held in great affection by those who knew her well. I was able to give her the last sacraments at Greenslopes Hospital - the Apostolic Pardon, the last Anointing, Viaticum, and the Prayers for the Dying. She died a peaceful death, rendering her soul to her Maker in loving trust. She would want us now to pray for the repose of her soul. May her soul rest in peace, and may she rise again in glory.

Please see below for the latest information regarding Masses, Confessions, Eucharistic Adoration, etc. It is perhaps appropriate to express a word of gratitude here to all who have worked in our parish office lately, in what have been sometimes difficult and trying circumstances. We all, parishioners and priests, owe a debt of thanks to you.

Mass Update Mass times are still available for booking but we also have some important updates. In order to have more people in our churches seating is now divided into sections. While many people have their favourite places to sit, the sections are randomly assigned, and we appreciate you sitting in your assigned section. We cannot take requests for seating in certain sections due to the logistics of assigning seats. Please also be sure to read the instructions on the booking website. If you are booking people from a different address you must enter them as a separate booking, and always be sure to include the names of those you are booking in in the appropriate section. By following these instructions you save Br Tyson hours following people up and manually fixing the booking system, and it also means we don't have to collect or correct details at the door holding up the line, this way we can get everyone into the church quicker. Especially on Sundays you may wish to arrive around ten minutes before Mass starts to ensure we can get everyone through the door. We thank you for your patience in these matters as we pray for an end to restrictions.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION A spiritual communion is a devotional practice whereby we exercise the mind and heart in desiring to receive Christ in the Holy Eucharist, either as a preparation for participation in the Mass, or when it is not possible to receive Holy Communion. Since Christ himself is the ultimate goal of every human desire, the value of a well made spiritual communion is very great. "When you do not receive Communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by it the love of God will be greatly impressed upon you." (St Teresa of Avila, the Way of Perfection, Ch35). St John Vianney taught that making a spiritual communion has an effect like that of blowing on embers to make them flame up again, so the love of God flames up in the heart by means of the spiritual communion. The most generally known form is that of St Alphonsus de Liguori:

"My Jesus, I believe that You are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please enter spiritually into my soul. I welcome you, I love and adore You, never permit me to be separated from You. Amen."

ACT OF PERFECT CONTRITION

Through an act of Perfect Contrition you can receive the forgiveness of your sins outside of confession, even mortal sins, provided that you determine yourself to correct your life and make a firm resolution to go to

sacramental confession as soon as you can, when it becomes possible. Remember, these are extraordinary measures only, for times when a priest is truly not available to you.

Perfect Contrition is sorrow and detestation of sin arising out of the love of God. One way of exciting this contrition in our hearts is by considering the passion of Jesus Christ and making acts of love for Him. We can also think of the infinite love which God has for us, and express sorrow in our heart in

the presence of this great love which we have offended.

O my God, I am heartily sorry for all the sins of my life simply because by them I have offended You and Your infinite love. I desire never to offend You again. Grant that my soul may enter into Your grace, and remain united to You forever. Amen.

MASS READINGS First Reading: Jeremiah 20:10-13

Jeremiah said: I hear so many disparaging me, '"Terror from every side!" Denounce him! Let us denounce him!' All those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall, ‘Perhaps he will be seduced into error. Then we will master him and take our revenge!’ But the Lord is at my side, a mighty hero; my opponents will stumble, mastered, confounded by their failure; everlasting, unforgettable disgrace will be theirs. But you, Lord of Hosts, you who probe with justice, who scrutinise the loins and heart, let me see the vengeance you will take on them, for I have committed my cause to you. Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hands of evil men. The Word of the Lord

Second Reading: Romans 5:12-15

Sin entered the world through one man, and through sin death, and thus death has spread through the whole human race because everyone has sinned. Sin existed in the world long before the Law was given. There was no law and so no one could be accused of the sin of 'law-breaking', yet death reigned over all from Adam to Moses, even though their sin, unlike that of Adam, was not a matter of breaking a law. Adam prefigured the One to come, but the gift itself considerably outweighed the fall. If it is certain that through one man's fall so many died, it is even more certain that divine grace, coming through the one man, Jesus Christ, came to so many as an abundant free gift.

Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33

Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: 'Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered,

and everything now hidden will be made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the housetops. 'Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. Why, every hair on your head has been counted.

So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows. So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.'

FLORES IS BACK! Hi Ladies, Exciting news... FLORES IS BACK ON!

We’ve missed you all and our regular catch ups. I hope this time of isolation has been fruitful for you and you are all still keeping well. We are very excited to start up our Flores events again and hope you’ll be able to join us for a lovely casual morning tea on Saturday 27th June from 9:30am - 11:30am.

There will be 7am Mass and 8:30am Mass at Mary Immaculate Church beforehand which we encourage you to book yourselves in for.
