One of the most used service of FCSP is the Respite Program, but there are also consultant services such as counseling and RN services. The Respite Program gives you a break where you can leave for a few hours and a trained person can care for your loved one in your home. It’s the time of year to break out and sing my Gratitude Attitude song from Disney‘s Johnny Appleseed:

“Oh, the Lord’s been good to me.And so I thank the Lord,For giving me the things I need,The sun, the rain and the appleseed. The Lord’s been good to me.”Here are a few of the “apple

seeds” I’m thankful for, in other words, here is 2012 in review.

I am still thankful for smiles, life, family, friends, volunteers, people with a sense of humor, hugs, tomato basil soup, chocolate and friends with chocolate.

I am thankful for the opportunity to serve others.

I am thankful for scriptures.I am thankful for prayer.I am thankful to still live on an

island.I am thankful for the opportunity

to travel.I am thankful for great music and

musicals.I am thankful for the seats we had

to see CATS. The expression on Valerie’s face when a couple of the cast members in their Cat costumes

came by and interacted with her, was worth the price of tickets.

I am thankful we didn’t get evicted from the theatre when Mr. Volunteer snapped a picture.

I am thankful I FINALLY got to see Man of La Mancha, even if it took 40 years. It was worth the wait. I even have a picture of me with the cast members.

I am thankful for Neil Diamond. It was one HOT July night this summer. I am a Believer! I have the bumper sticker and t-shirt to prove it. This was his 40th Anniversary Tour. I saw him in 1972 at the Salt Palace. We’re all aging in place quite nicely thank you.

I am thankful I didn’t fall asleep during the Perfect Game at Safeco

Field. Who knew boring could be so exciting.

I am thankful I got to go to New Hampshire this summer and see my son get married in a lighthouse to a wonderful young woman. And what a kiss! The camera is still steamy.

I am thankful for the opportunity to escort a group of wonderful people on the New England/Canada Cruise! That cruise is off my Bucket List! Got Panama Canal to do still.

I am grateful for all of you that read my column. Glad we can share a chuckle. I’ve seriously thought of starting a blog. Let me know what you think.

Yes, the Lord’s been good to me.

This small fund is supported by the donations of your friends, neighbors and local businesses, and administered by volunteers. In order to meet the needs of as many people as possible, we set limits on how much assistance is

available to any one individual over the course of a year. Payments are made directly to providers. Bills already paid cannot be reimbursed. If you need help with prescription expenses, please call (360) 929-3328 and leave a message. A volunteer will call you back within 24 hours.

Volunteer Drivers NeededVolunteer Services, a Program of

Senior Services Of Island County of Island County has a need for volunteer drivers to transport seniors and disabled to medical appointments. Volunteers use their own cars, but are reimbursed for fuel, and can state their preferences for remaining on Island, or traveling off Island and times they are available. This is a wonderful way to help those that can no longer drive, but desire to remain independent in their homes. There is a background, driving record and fingerprints check required. If interested, or if you have a need for transportation, please call Pat Weekley at 360-678-4886 ext. 21.
