    Introduction

At birth, our brains are blank with no contents.

The brain has two parts- Leftand RightBrain.

Each of our brains are wired differently.

They are programmed by nature to functionin different ways.

But this does not mean that a person who is

left or right brain dominated does not use theother part of his brain. For most people, thetwo parts of the brain work in tandem toenable them to function as well-roundedpersonalities.

    ACADEMICS AND THINKING

At the time of their birth, babies are notpredisposed to be either left brain or right brainthinkers. Unfortunately, our education systemwith its emphasis on rote learning and examsyllabi is more tuned to encouraging left-brainactivity, often to the detriment of right braincreativity.

School examinations are designed to test left-

brain activity and encourage conformity inthought. There is a possibility that if right brainskills are not exercised, they may not developsufficiently.

When it comes to academics, leftbrain dominated children do wellat school, as they are more likely torespond to formal learning. They

exhibit greater responsibility, arequite content to study bythemselves and have greaterconcentration.

    Right brain dominated children, on

the other hand, are less likely toperform well academically. Theyprefer to study with company, cannot sit still for very long and aremore responsive in informalsettings.
