PRINCIPAL’S REPORT It was wonderful to see so many grandparents and grandfriends visit our school on Monday as part of our celebration of Grandparents Day. Classrooms were open to visitors followed by morning tea in the rose garden. We thank the organising staff and families who attended and provided a plate of morning tea.

Each Wednesday, children starting Kindergarten in 2020 have been involved in a transition to school program for three hours of a morning. From next week, the children will attend for three hours from 12 noon. If you know of any children that are expecting to start school at Armidale City Public School next year that have not attended any orientation, please ask the parents to contact the school as soon as possible so that they do not miss out on these lessons.

Excursions Students in Kindergarten Purple and Kindergarten Red will be participating in Teddy Bear’s Picnic at Thalgarrah on Thursday and Friday, respectively. This is an exciting day excursion for our younger students.

Our thanks go to Mrs MacGregor for her tireless work in ensuring that all paperwork has been received for students participating in the Stage 2 excursions to Lake Keepit and Thalgarrah next week, and the Stage 3 excursion to Canberra the following week. It is important that information provided is correct and complete in order for students to attend these excursions. Staff rely on this information to keep students safe.

1/2KS CLASS NEWS 1/2KS have started the term off with a great exuberance for the activities and topics we are working on. Mathematics has been terrific fun, racing each other to create correct numerals in place value, from randomly created one and two digit numbers per column. We have some very quick and clever mental mathematicians!

In English, we are continuing our work with various forms of poetry, as well as pushing our vocabulary building to the extremes. Mrs Cordingley and Mrs Woods are impressed with the improvement in oral reading that we are seeing - there must have been plenty of books shared over the holidays.

Our Creative and Performing Arts focus has been on a cappella, with a fantastic effort going into our performance piece for Assembly. I have to say I got goose bumps the first time it all came together! We are looking forward to beginning our piece for the end of year play - watch out for a bang up performance!

Mrs Woods, Mrs Cordingley and 1/2KS

1/2M CLASS NEWS 1/2M have had a busy start to the term. Last term we learnt many facts about Australian animals and focused on the Emu. In the holidays Miss Marshall located some emu eggs and feathers. We have been interested in looking at these and their features. This term we have been reading many poems and stories and have begun to write our own acrostic poems using our names. We have been learning to identify and use alliteration to tie our tongue in knots and make our writing interesting. We are ready to learn so

much more about poetry and making our writing interesting.

1/2M and Miss Marshall

EVERY DROP COUNTS CONGRATULATIONS On Friday night we celebrated the achievement of two of our wonderful teachers.
