Savvy: The Epic and Awesome Book By Jacob Dudley and Anthony Duane

Savvy, by Ingrid Law, is about a girl named Mibs who lives in a family that is super special because every 13th birthday the people in her family get a savvy which is like a superpower. Some savvies include moving mountains, controlling lightning, making hurricanes, and being perfect. In this story Mibs goes on an adventure to save her father who got in a terrible accident the day before her 13th birthday. The people who go with her vary from friends to enemies to siblings to people she hasn’t even met although she needs them all to complete her adventure. If you like adventure and fast paced events, read this book. And if you enjoy Savvy, then read the second book Scumble. Baseball Fever By Spencer Pava

The World Series has just started up and the San Francisco Giants lead the series 2-0. In the first game, the Giants overcame Cliff Lee to win 11-7. In game 2, the Giants destroyed the Texas Rangers 9-0. I have a prediction that the Giants will win the series 4-1 because they have stronger players and many home run hitters. I predict that the Giants will win their next game 6-3. The Rangers will start strong but the Giants will come storming back. Late in the game I predict that the Giants will come back to win the game by a score of 5-3. I believe that the Giants will overcome the strong Rangers’ pitching and will WIN the World Series.

Test Time for Fenn Fifth Graders By Blayne Dee and Nicholas Schoeller

Last Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the Fenn School fifth graders had ERBs. ERB stands for Educational Records Bureau. It is a test that is similar to MCAS. Surprisingly ERBs are at the beginning of the year for Fenn students. The fifth graders had to take Math 1, Math 2, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning, and finally Vocabulary.

Paul Michaud, a fifth grader at Fenn, said that the testing was easy but also hard. Reading Comprehension, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning were the hardest three parts of the test. Math 1, Math 2, and Vocabulary were probably the easiest parts of the test. The fifth graders are happy the tests are over even though we are back to getting more homework. Finally some students got treats at the end of the test. For example, in Mrs. Byron’s class, the students got Jumbo Push Pops!!!!!! The students will have more tests next year so now they are going to work very hard to prepare.

Ask Dylan and Paul By Paul Michaud and Dylan Volman

Here are some more questions asked by Lower School students. Q. What do I do if I am being pushed by Upper Schoolers? A. Try to make an effort to tell them to stop, and if the pushing gets too serious, talk to a teacher or your advisor. Q. How do I get called on more in class? A. Try to stay silent when you are raising your hand. Be quiet and ready to answer. If you want, you can also talk to your teacher; he/she will be glad to help. Q. What if I am too embarrassed to talk in front of a group? A. If it is something like a big oral report, recite your lines in front of your family or in front of a mirror. By the end, you’ll be able to recite in your sleep! Envision yourself talking smartly and informatively. Also, JUST RELAX! It will turn out fine. Q. What if I am not getting passed to enough in sports? A. Try to get open, and if that doesn’t work, talk to a teacher about it and they will give you tips. Also talk to the adult who is running the activity to see if he/she has any suggestions

Helping Hands By Walker Davey

The can drive is off to a great start. Although each grade has not brought in many cans, the whole school has brought in a total of about 500 cans. The leading grade in cans is the ninth grade with about 300 cans. The whole school is looking to get about 5000 cans, which sounds like a lot, but if each student and faculty brings in about 30 cans each, we can reach this goal. All students should try to bring in cans because all of the cans are going to a local pantry called Open Table in Concord. Who would think there would be families in Concord who can not afford food? Well there are. This pantry depends on us because we are usually the community that donates the most cans every year. When you bring your donation to school, put it right outside of Robb Hall in the correct box. Also, if you can, go to your local supermarket with some friends and stand outside with a sign to get people to either buy some cans or have them give you donations. Remember that Open Pantry wants canned fruits, spaghetti, peanut butter and tuna fish. Thanks for lending a helping hand.

GOOAALL!!!! Information on Fenn school sports

FAVRE VS BRADY By Spencer Pava and Hal Groome By Finn Harding & Charlie Fitzsimmons

The Fenn fall sports teams are Varsity Football, Varsity Soccer, JV Soccer, Squad Soccer, and Cross Country. So far Varsity Football is 3-1 and will play the Groton school on Wednesday at Middlesex. Unfortunately, Varsity Soccer is 1-1-4. Last Friday they played Fay at home, and last Wednesday they played Fessendon and lost 4-0. They hope to become a much better team by the end of the season. Cross Country is very successful this year. Last Thursday they had a big meet in Boston. There were 1,000 runners, and 10 schools. They finished very well. JV Soccer is 4-0 and will play at the Pike school on Wednesday. All the 3rd Soccer teams are doing great and have least 2 games remaining in the season. So go out and cheer on our teams!!

The Patriots are off to a great start. Their record is 5-1. In their first game they won against the Cinncinati Bengals. Last week they barely won when Chris Brown missed and hit the post for a game tying field goal. I believe that the Patriots will win the Super Bowl because they have a superstar quarterback, an amazing running back/wide receiver, and a few other weapons. This week I think they will win their game 24-10 against the Vikings because Brett Favre may not play. Even if he does, he is not a franchise quarterback. The Vikings have a few weapons such as Randy Moss, Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson, but, unlike the Patriots, they are not a championship contending team. Go Pats!!

Have you ever fallen into a book? By: Chewy Bruin & J-Rod Roderick

Have you ever fallen into a book? This is exactly what happens to Trip Dinkleman. One day while Trip is going to lacrosse tryouts, he is asked to help out moving the cart of books at the book fair. While he is doing this, the top shelf of the books on the cart fall on him and knock him out. But when he is knocked out, he goes through all different kinds of parallel universes. When he is in these parallel universes, horrible things happen to him. Now Trip Dinkleman has to try to get out of these parallel universes. BUT WILL HE? J-rod and Chewy really liked this book and would recommend it to ANYONE who likes action and adventure.
