From the desk at T Bar Welcome to the eleventh annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. 2015 comes with a little change...since Parkland Livestock is closed, this annual leading event has been moved to Heartland at Yorkton, a stranger to no one in the area and a sale barn in which several of you market your calves. The most important feature has not changed.....Best of the Breeds remains one of the few one-stop shopping events in Western Canada every spring. It is a sale designed to supply necessary breeds in the livestock industry with both Continental and British in uence. The Continental breeds, Charolais, Simmental and Gelbvieh will add performance and pounds of calf at weaning while complimenting the British Black and Red Angus who bring maternal and calving ease components. This sale allows farmers and ranchers to evaluate some of the nest representatives of their respective breeds...all under one roof in one trip! This is not a consignment sale...it is a group of leading producers, whose herds are not large enough to sustain their own stand alone event. Each breeder is a leader within their respective breed and dedicated to supply the highest of quality for their customers. Each breeder takes advantage of the use of arti cial insemination, adding cutting-edge genetics to their programs and keeping their customer requirements in mind. Welcome to the 11th Annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. They say change is the only constant in life and this year was no different. With the closing of Parkland Auction Market this fall we decided Yorkton was the obvious choice to host our sale. We have sold bulls in Yorkton a few years ago and hosted female sales in Yorkton many moons ago so its a familiar place. We greatly appreciate everyone who supported our sale in Leross for the past 10 years and hope you will join us in Yorkton this year.

Weve been in the Simmental business since 1976 and run a herd of approx. 100 red, black and fullblood eckvieh females. At FFF our focus continues to be raising bulls with performance, natural thickness, maternal strength, calving ease and most of all a quiet disposition.

New for 2015 we are excited to offer the rst bulls from our new black herdsire Tess Derringer 105Z. He is a homo polled, hetero black Wallbanger son out of a Wheatland 680S cow. In 2013, we were looking for a new black herdsire and that was the rst year Wallbanger calves were available. We werent looking for that pedigree speci cally however when we saw this bull as

a yearling we really liked his width, thickness of quarter, depth of rib and wicked hair and then his pedigree was an added bonus. All bulls are Express Veried as our cows receive Express 5 pre-breeding. The calves receive Pyramid FP4 Presponse plus blackleg vaccination in spring and Pyramid FP4 Presponse plus Fermicon7/somnugen in the fall. All bulls will also receive double vaccination of fusogard for prevention of foot rot. Wed like to invite everyone to our Bull Pen Open House at the farm March 21 & 22 from 1-5 PM. This is a great opportunity to view the bulls in their environment as well as walk through our cow herd to see the maternal strength that comes along with these bulls. Radar is a bull that continues to impress me every time Im in the pen. He is big barreled, deep quartered and has a good set of testicles. Radar is scurred however can still throw you polled calves so be sure to give him a good look. These Redstream bulls were some of the high sellers at last years sale. Redstream has left us with an awesome set of bred heifers this year that are deep bodied, powerful females. We just started calving in late January and we are very pleased with these heifers as they have lots of milk and beautiful udders. Radar is from the Supreme Lady 21F cow family that are very feminine, fertile and functional females.

HETEROZYGOUS BLACK. Here is a bull out of the homo polled, homo black outcross AI sire from Genex, NLC Upgrade. We used Upgrade for a few years to introduce some different genetics to our black program. His calves have some serious performance with this bull weaning off his rst calf heifer momma at 850 lbs in mid Sept. If you look at this guys EPDs on the Simmental website they are impressive, many categories are top 1% of the overall breed. He is scurred however will still produce polled calves and you wont see them on heifers. We really like the Upgrade heifers we have, as they are moderate framed, deep bodied with good udders. Look for this bull to produce heavy steers and fancy females.

33B has been a favorite of mine from the start. He has that eye appeal, is very structurally correct and has lots of dark red hair. 2014 saw our rst crop of calves off our walking bull, CSS Sir Gridmaker 2W. Over 50 judges across the prairies picked this guy to top the show circuit. He has went on to become a great breeding legend and his calves follow right in his footprints. We are so proud to own this great bull! He has been used A.I. on 1000s of heifers and will offer the calving ease and performance that we all desire. We walked the Gridmaker bull, and AIed to some of our proven AI bulls to produce a genetically diverse bull pen that focuses on functionality. Reasonable birth weights, excellent growth, and longevity.

I know each year guys say this is my best crop of bulls ever, but this years bull pen is out of this world! This year we were pleasantly surprised as we weighed October 29, 2014 and thirty bulls averaged 940 lbs!
