the beginnings of przemyśl(1)
TRANSCRIPT
Long time ago, more than two hundred years before
the rule of the first recognized ruler of Poland –
Mieszko I.
The lands of the present-day Poland was covered by thick
forests full of various animals such as wolves, bears, deer and bisons.
When they reached they edge of the forest, they beheld a beautiful land.
The sight was marvelous. The land was perfect for establishing a new
settlement. The river “San” embraced the hill which in Czcibor’s eyes was
suitable for establishing a new settlement.
Once upon a time, two riders were travelling along a forest path. They were dressed in leather vests. They had gilded
swords which was the proof of their wealth. Their names were Czcibor and
Przemko. They were the father and son. They were admiring the wild beauty of the
primaeval forest.
Many years later, when Przemysław became the ruler of his tribe “Lędzianie”.
During his rule, the number of other tribes’ attacks increased. Once, during a long
battle, they almost destroyed Przemysław’s settlement. The invaders were defeated but the burgh required
rebuilding.
Finally the tribe reached the decision and some time later they were secure in their new
settlement. They tilled the land and it became prosperous by trade and hard work. The old
settlement was also rebuilt to provide shelter for settlers in case of raids. Soon the settlement
turned into a prosperous city. A few hundred years later, to commemorate the name of Duke Przemysław, it’s people named it “Przemyśl”.
