LOWER MAINLAND REPORT
Happy New Year to everyone. While we were having the Lower Mainland Christmas Party Irene decided to selltickets on the Queen size quilt we were raffling at our Awana Place complex. Congratulations to Hazel Young
whom we have heard won the quilt. The ticket was drawn at our Christmas luncheon that Rick and I missed due tothe fact we are camping on Vancouver Island for two months.
The Nanaimo UMCI group meets every Friday for lunch andSunday for breakfast. Rick and I have been attending all of their gettogether. For several years Bill & Tina have been the organizers for the BC500 and they have done a fantastic job of it, and now they havedecided to turn it over to another club member. Now is a good timeto let Abe know that you would be willing to organize one, perhapsyou have a route in mind that you have always thought would be agreat ride.

Melanie Watts passed away December 12th, 2011
Melanie will be greatly missed by all of us and the Peachland townsfolk. She was a lot of fun and we had a greatvacation together last winter and spring in Palm Springs. Unfortunately she only stopped smoking about 4 monthsago but it was too late. Thank God that she didn’t suffer for a long period before the Lord took her home. Thanksfor your thoughts and prayers.…………. John Watts

What a day!!Well this afternoon I had a real afternoon. At about 1:15 I was looking out the front window at the weather, and
all of a sudden this BIG sun shine arm and hand came out of the clear blue sky, right into the yard and rightthrough the front window and put its hand and arm around me. It took me to the front closet, put my winter ridinggear on and took me out to the bike garage, where the Beemer was park. And it said lets go. So the next thing Iknew I was off going down the road. This big ray of sunshine leading the way and someone on the seat behind me.It took me off around Yellow Point then down the Island highway through Ladysmith and on down the road toChemainus. We went down town and around the big round about and off to Ladysmith again. Soon we weregoing past the Cassidy airport and on our way to the Duke point ferry dock. We came to a stop to watch the ferryload and then we were on our way home and into the garage. As I came to a stop in the garage , I realized that I had 89 more K,s on the Speedo than when I left, plus I had beengone 1 hour and 35 min OH MY GOSH what a ride and I just sat back and enjoyed it.NOW that is my story and that is that.If anyone can help me out on what happened that would be GREAT.SO now you know the whole story of MY afternoon.
What a day. tata Jack Lightburn.Vancouver Isle
Twas the night before ChristmasAnd all through the garagesNot a motorcycle was rumbling,Except for Santa Clause's.The leather was hung in the closet with careIn hopes that nice weather soon would be there. Our bikes were all nestled snug in their coversWith visions of blacktop and burning up rubber. With momma in her bandana and I in my skull capWe had just settled down for a long winters nap. When out on the lawn, arose such a rumbleI sprang from the bed as I started to grumble. When, what to my wondering eyes should appearBut a pack of motorcycles, with riders and gear,With one old driver so lively and quickI knew in a moment it must be biker St. Nick.He was dressed all in Leather, from his head to his footAnd his clothes were all tarnished with bugs and road soot,A bundle of chrome he had flung on his back.Down the chimney he came, carrying a big red sack.He spoke not a word but went straight to his workAs he filled all the riding boots, then turned with a jerk,And laying a finger aside of his noseAnd giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.He sprang to his motorcycle, to his team gave a signAs they all cracked their throttles and got into a line,Now Honda, Now Harley, Now Triumph and Indian On Kawi,On Suzuki, On Yamaha and Victory. But I heard him exclaim as he roared out of sightKeep the rubber side down and have a good ride.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

NO JAN. ANNIVERSARIES
From Jared Reid, Honda Extreme
Posted to dealers on Dec 2,On December 1st, 2011, Honda Canada notified notify Transport Canada of a voluntary Safety Recall ofinvolving 8,655 units of 2001-2012 model-year GL1800 motorcycles.Description of Problem:Due to production tolerance stack-up, the secondary master cylinder may be mounted at an increased anglecompared to the design specification. Swelling of the secondary master cylinder pressure cup may alsooccur after prolonged exposure to brake fluid and high temperatures. These factors in combination mayresult in the compensating port becoming blocked. If and when the compensating port becomes blocked, therear brake drags and the fluid temperature increases abnormally causing progressive expansion of the fluidand increased braking force/drag. Unexpected braking/dragging increases the risk of a crash and continuedriding with the rear brake engaged/dragging may generate enough heat to cause the rear brake to catch fire. There has been no reported incident or injury related to this issue in Canada.Affected Units:Canada: 8,655 unitsTotal (global): 127,476 units
