Open Questions that work are:• Hi, how has your day been?• Why have you come to this event?• Do you know many people here?• What's the best thing that's happened to you today?• What do you think of the speaker/entertainment tonight?• Are you a member of this group?• What do you do? – standard, try to avoid as a first question• What do you do when you're not working?• Where's the best place to go on a holiday?• I love travel, do you? Where have you been lately?• I love sport, do you? What's your favourite?




Changing Conversation

Sometimes its not about starting the conversation, but changingit to something a little more interesting !

Strategies for this is to either get the conversation more on your topic of interest or to get someone out of a dull, boring or negative monologue include:

Have you seen the (insert latest news on your topic - eg, football results, commonwealth games, govt announcement)? What did you think?

What's the best thing that's happened to you today/this week (its a winning question no matter the context)

State a fact to start conversation which will have them ask to know more - eg. Did you know that 2 out of 5 CEOs fail in their first 18 months on the job? I now know why that happens…
