We look forward to seeing you all in person this year so planning for this year’s events has started. If you are interested in helping us, please contact us at [email protected]. are interested in renting a plot for the 2021 season, please send an email to Aimee Froling at [email protected]. You will be put on the distribution list for a Google Meet invite to attend the meeting virtually. Looking forward to “seeing” some new faces in the garden! Water Quality Testing (WQT) – 14 March: While our WQT Team reported once again that eColi numbers remain minimal in our creeks, dissolved oxygen are still reaching seasonal highs in the 9-10 mg/L ranges. So our fish are clearly hanging out at the oxygen bar these days! Our WQT team will meet at 9a at the Aquia Harbour Yacht Club for our

monthly WQT activities. Come join us to learn about the health of the streams in our community! POC: Debe: [email protected] Green Aquia Monthly Meeting – 10 March: Our next Virtual meeting is Wednesday, March 10th at 6:00pm. Please join us! If you would like more information about Green Aquia, contact us at [email protected] Community Cleanup – 24 April: Mark your calendars for this annual event where volunteers help Aquia Harbour maintain its beauty by picking up litter on our parks, trails and other common areas as part of Earth Day which is April 22nd this year. For more information on how you can help, contact Vic at [email protected].

Aquia Harbour’s Bluebird Trail: Members of Green Aquia and the Aquia Harbour 4-H Club are teaming with The Virginia Bluebird Society (VBS) to establish and monitor a “Bluebird trail” in Aquia Harbour. Bluebirds are “cavity nesters,” usually nesting in a cavity of a dead tree. Cutting down dead trees has resulted in loss of habitat for these and other cavity nesting birds. Bluebird nesting boxes will be placed on Aquia Harbour common property where there is prime Bluebird habitat. The nesting boxes will be monitored throughout the summer for Bluebird or other songbird nesting. If you would like more information on this group effort to bring back bluebird habitat, contact us at [email protected]. Happy birding! March has arrived and our curious preschoolers are getting excited to see the end of winter and welcome spring!

February was a short, busy month with Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day celebrations. All month long, preschoolers enjoyed engaging activities and crafts to celebrate. February also brought a very successful Fall Registration. Thank you to all of the families who came to Fall Registration to enroll their 3 and 4 year-old preschoolers. We have some amazing families joining our school! We are excited to announce that we will have both in-person and virtual classes in the fall. If you would like to become part

of our AHPS family, please email us at [email protected] or visit our website: www.aquiaharbourpreschool.org for more information! We are also looking for people to serve on our board of directors for the 2021-2022 school year. In the Classroom This month our classes will be learning about spring and discussing and charting the weather patterns that go along with the season. The children will participate in reading graphs and interpreting some of the information contained on the graph. In class, we will study some animals that come from eggs to coincide with our discussions about Spring. Our Preschoolers will start identifying the beginning, middle, and end of a story. We will work on retelling a story and recognizing the difference between real and make believe. Further, our classes will develop understanding of words that rhyme with activities like listening to nursery rhymes, singing songs and reading poems. Concept development for this month will include “beginning” and “end”, “before” and “after”, and “over” and “under”. The color for this month will be purple and the shapes are the rhombus and the oval. The children will learn about the numbers 13, 14, and 15. We will be introducing the sounds for the letters “Q”, “R”, and “K” utilizing key words and pictures, real objects, stories, and hands-on activities. Reading Celebration! Oh, the places you can go reading a book! Find at least 15 minutes for reading every day. Discover the fun you can have deciding if you like green eggs and ham or just bread and jam! During March, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Reading Awareness Month, please watch for information in your child’s backpack regarding favorite books and how AHPS will be celebrating reading!. There will be opportunities to share about our favorite books all month long! Happy reading! :) March

Calling 911? Do you know if it is an emergency? Chest pain with radiation to an arm, back or jaw? Call 911. The pain just doesn’t go away. Call 911. When it comes to a heart attack, time is heart muscle. That is why calling early is so important. The crew of the responding ambulance can perform an EKG on the spot and transmit it to the hospital getting immediate results. The Patient has the right to turn us away and refuse treatment if they are mentally competent and not impaired by drugs or alcohol. So call and let the EMS check you out.

That headache that is the worst you have ever had? The sudden blurred vision/loss of vision? Weakness or paralysis on one side of the body? Call 911. Take note of the time symptoms began. There is a new mnemonic for remembering stroke symptoms. B.E. F.A.S.T.

Balance – dizziness, loss of coordination

Eyes- trouble seeing out of one or both eyes

Face- drooping on one side, uneven smile

Arms- weakness/unable to raise arms

Speech- slurred speech. Unable to find words, cannot repeat a simple phrase

Time – to call 911 right away. Time is brain tissue

Injuries with uncontrolled bleeding, dislocations/broken bones. Call 911. Don’t be afraid of going to your health maintenance appointments. Diabetes and heart disease can be managed with your doctor. Putting off these check- up can result in a call to 911.
