The Annual 1000-Page Summer Reading Challenge!
June 2008 Dear Parents and Students: Begin your summer reading adventure by competing in Cowan’s annual 1,000 page Summer Reading Challenge. It’s simple to do. If you read only 20 pages a day for 8 weeks, you’ve read more than 1000 pages! Read everywhere! Read in the car, on the bus, or under the covers. Read with your family. When you read with a brother, sister or friend that goes to Cowan, it counts double, once for you and once for them! Use the attached Reading Log to keep track of your reading. In September, turn in the completed log to your new teacher. All readers are winners! During an assembly every child who has read 1,000 pages or more will be recognized and will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Win a prize! PTA will award gift cards to the two readers from grades K-2 and the two readers from grades 3-5 who have read the most number of pages. Remember, success in school starts with reading. We want you to be a successful reader and develop a love for reading. By working together we can build those skills that make reading an enjoyable part of your life.
