Dr. Joshua BeckleySenior Pastor, Ecclesia Christian Fellowship

Praise God for you accepting the 2021 BIBLE CHALLENGE!

This Bible reading plan will guide you through reading the entire Bible in one year.

In my reading through the Bible each year for the past 20 years, I have found it most edifying and encouraging. It has enhanced my Bible knowledge and understanding. I know it will do the same for you as you embrace this challenge. For the Bible says:

Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth.~John 17:17

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path!~Psalm 119:105

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,and in His law doth he meditate day and night!

~Psalm 1:2

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk,so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

~1 Peter 2:2

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

~2 Timothy 3:16-17

Dr. Robert W. Strong, Minister, Ecclesia Christian Fellowship

Welcome to TODAY’S READ!

I have endeavored to read through the entire Bible every year since about 1997. I simply desired to better know God and His Word.

While pursuing my doctorate, Dr. Gary McIntosh encouraged/assigned each member of our cohort to begin a new “ministry” that would regularly benefit people outside of our normal ministry responsibilities. In 2010, I began sending a daily text message announcing the Bible reading for the day, including a brief highlight from that reading. This was the birth of TODAY’S READ!

After many years of Bible-in-one-year reading and after receiving many questions, I devised a “chronological” Bible reading plan in an effort to read the Bible in the order in which the books were written. Although this chronology is a yearly work in progress, it has helped me see God’s BIG PICTURE message more clearly and aided me in more accurate detailed study of selected passages.

A Bible reading plan is a TELESCOPIC view of the Bible. Detailed study is a MICROSCOPIC view of the Bible. Both are necessary for our spiritual growth. Both are necessary to enhance our relationship with the Lord and to gain a more complete understanding of His Word.

Reading through the Bible in one year is NOT detailed Bible study. It is simply reading to increase our knowledge of the BIG PICTURE.

In the process of reading, at least three benefits are derived:

1) Get to know GOD better (Daniel 11:32b; Psalm 42:1-2)

2) Get to know God’s Word better (Psalm 119:105; 1 Pet. 2:2)

3) Get to know yourself better (Ps. 139:23-24; 2 Cor. 7:1)

BIBLE READING SUGGESTIONS

• Pick & Stick - Pick a single translation to use for this year’s Bible reading plan. Using multiple translations will cause you to miss out on nuances, associations, and other benefits that will enhance your understanding.

• Read Printed Bible - preferred to using an electronic Bible.

• Listen to Audio Bible - Listening to an audio version of your preferred translation and following along in your printed Bible will help you keep a steady pace, enhance retention, minimize distractions, avoid rabbit trails, and help pronounce unfamiliar words. When you run across unfamiliar words, do not dismiss them, learn to say them correctly.

• Mark up your Bible - Underline, circle, highlight, jot notes and write definitions in margins. Your markups this year will help your retention this year and really enhance your reading next year!

I have developed a system over the years using colored pens/pencils and several colored highlighters. Helps me quickly identify the message and movement of a passage. (Refer to How To Study The Bible by Kay Arthur for a good explanation of her highlighting system.)

• Check the Box - Check the box each day for each chapter read. This visual will motivate you to continue.

• Remember - This is READING, not STUDY. Goal: complete the reading in one year. Benefits - will be self-evident!

• Make a List - While reading, make a list of passages, themes and key words you would like to study “later.”

• Daily Reading - Prayerfully approach each daily reading as a date (consecrated time spent with God). Your desires are to know God better and to receive new understanding. Do not let your familiarity with a passage hinder your growth.
