NEWS: WATER CANVAS STREAM NEW EPBrighton alt-rock foursome Water Canvas are streaming their second EP, Haunter, the follow up to 2014’s At Least.

“It’s a set of songs about anxieties that might every so often interrupt their day-to-day,” says band member James Fox. “Maybe it’s pretty relatable for those reasons.”

The six-track EP, which is available as a name-your-price download, can be streamed on Bandcamp via the image above.

NEWS: SPEAKING IN ITALICS UNVEIL MUSIC VIDEOLeicester prog rock four piece Speaking In Italics have unveiled their new mu-sic video for Painted Sky.

The track, which is taken from their EP of the same name, showcases Speaking In Italics as a band that mixes emotive, ethereal melody with raw and impactful pop-rock sound. NEWS: max raptor sign record deal and reveal new materialMidlands punk-rock quartet Max Rap-tor have signed to Hassle Rockers and announced new material.

“We’re very happy to announce that we’ve signed with the fiercely indepen-dent Hassle Records,”

“We’re releasing not only our second album early next year but an EP before Christmas 2015 which we’re working

on in the studio right this second. We’ve built a strong relationship with the label in a short space of time and looking forward to putting our heads together on these new sounds we’ve been putting down.”

“The EP ventures into the amalgamation that is British political scene, depression in men in the 21st century, the resistible rise of right leaning extremist statesmen & finally the regurgitation of mainstream media production. The album will not be a far cry from this, almost an arm to it. With the plethora of dire circumstances around the world, it would be unjust to ignore them when we’re penning the new tracks.”

NEWS: laura stevenson reveals new track jellyfishWith the potty-mouth poetry of Frank Turner sings of the twisted realities of modern life in her new track Jelly-fish, taken from her forthcoming full-length album, Cocksure, which is available October 30th via Dan Giovanni Records.

Jellyfish is a multi-paced and infectious track that demonstrates a vocal and musical sound not often heard, with unsettlingly honest and unrelenting lyrical style.

ALBUM REVIEW: ADAM AND THE PLASTIC-FOXHOLESAdam And The Plastic is a five-piece band from Orlando, Florida. Foxholes is their second full-length release, at just under 40 minutes long.

Foxholes is mostly comprised of your regular, run-of-the-mill bedroom rock. Al-though it’s plenty enjoyable, it’s not reinventing the wheel or anything. But that’s okay. I don’t think that’s what Adam And The Plastic had in mind. This album starts out with a song called The Party that sounds reminiscent of Godspeed! You Black Emperor’s early work. There’s a simple guitar riff that repeats itself for the duration of the song, dragging other elements of the song with it. Other instrumentation slowly begins to appear, such as a playful melody on a lead guitar, drums that have been stripped down to bare necessities, as well as a sample of what sounds like a bunch of people huddled in a room, discussing who-knows-what. This is a good representation of what this album sounds like. Everything blends together, and it can be hard to pick out one thing you like, but all together, it’s really well made and it’s a very pleasant experience.

Foxholes, although it’s catchy and melodic and a very peaceful-sounding album, it is not without its flaws. For one thing, the vocals on this album are sometimes too hushed. They can be hard to understand. However, this doesn’t take very much away from the album. This album never had anything to say to begin with. Yes, people are talking, but you’re not supposed to analyze what they’re saying. It’s just some nice company. A good example of this is the song To The Bottom. It sounds fun, catchy, whimsical, like the background music for a weekend pool party. It’s just nice to have some musical accompaniment, and Adam And The Plastic is happy to provide it.

The name of the band might seem weird to casual passersby. No-one in the band is named Adam, and who or what is ‘the plastic’ they’re referring to? Well, once you listen to Foxholes, you’ll find out what ‘the plastic’ is. It’s referring to the kind of music the band is creating. If one were to try and dig deeper to find some sort of meaning in their music, they’re probably not going to find anything. It’s fake, in the sense that it’s just some nice music to listen to. It doesn’t have much of a message, it’s not supposed to get you riled up, it’s just there. And that’s not a bad thing at all.

NEWS: crossfaith announce album inspired comic Following the release of their album last week, Crossfaith have announced a comic book telling the story behind it.

“One night, Teru and Kazu were working together at a mo-tel and they showed me the title track Xeno. It blew my mind, so I started writing a story to match the fact there were so many different types of songs on the album. I cre-ated two characters – one guy who wants to destroy world, and a female cyberbrain both called Xeno. He can’t stand to live in this world because he thinks humans have ruined it, and she wants to learn what it is to be human. She dives into his mind, and the story starts from there…” The band will be releasing a page from the comic every day this week.

NEWS: green day release documentary trailerGreen Day have released the trailer for their upcom-ing documentary film, Heart Like A Hand Grenade.

The documentary, directed by film maker John Ro-ecker, follows Green Day as they record their most important album to date, American Idiot. And, re-gardless of what many people may think, American Idiot was an exceptionally import album. While it may divide fans, the record saw Green Day com-pletely change who they were and the music they

played, and in the process they attempted something different- a one album rock opera.

Of the documentary John Roecker said “This film does not contain high drama or fighting. It shows a band on top of their game creating incredible music. It is a film that inspires. It is also a very small film. All it took was a box of tapes and one camera. Going back to the D.I.Y. Ethic that I was raised with. It was also a risk for the band because this album was either going to take them to a higher level or sink them. Either way I was going to document it.”

Butterfield, who apparently isn’t a child anymore, will play a university dropout working as a baggage handling in Cape tTown that’s forced to confront his per-sonal issues when he meets Williams’ carefree, free-spirit character. She’s dying and has a bucket list she needs help with. Shooting is set to begin this Autumn.

NEWS: what's next for jurassic world?Colin Trevorrow has opened up about the future of the Jurassic World franchise. He won’t be directing the next film, but he is writing the script. In a recent interview with Jurassic Cast Podcast Trevorrow said: “Jurassic World is all based on Ian Malcolm’s quote, ‘You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accom-plish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and pack-aged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you wanna sell it.’ That to me is Jurassic World,

that’s why I had all the product placement, that’s what it was.”

“The second one, Jurassic World 2, and as we were driving we tried to find, what is the foundation? ‘Dinosaurs and man, separated by 65 million years of evolution have been thrown back into the mix together. How can we know what to expect?’ That’s why it’s exciting that the movie did well, that leaves us a lot of room to run, and it was part of this design, it had a beginning, middle, and end when we wrote the first movie. Now that the movie did well, we get to play that out.”

“It will get to be a different kind of film. The audience has given us permission to a certain extent to take this to the next level, and I don’t necessarily mean in scale, I feel very strongly that it’s not about more dinosaurs or bigger and better dinosaurs, it’s about using this as a starting point for a much larger story about our relationship with these animals and about animals in general and the dynamic created by bringing them back to life.”

“Jurassic World was very much made with the fans in mind, and I’m not going to forget it, but now we’ve seen a lot of ‘dinosaurs chasing people around on an island’ movies. I think the general audience is going to be down to explore where else we can go. We know Owen is going to be in it and Claire will be in it and neither will be in the same place that we left them in this movie, Even though Claire is the one who evolves the most over the trilogy, it’s her story that mirrors this changing world, Owen has shit to deal with. The two of them opened Pandora’s Box in Jurassic World and each of them are responsible for different elements of it in different ways, and I think the way that these characters are connected to the circumstances of what’s happening it’s different than the previous films. It’s not ‘Let’s manufacture a way to get them somewhere,’ they’re embedded into it now in a way that as story tellers makes it much easier for us to keep them involved and doesn’t feel as contrived.”

NEWS: on set pics released of the conjuring 2James Wan is returning to his horror roots and has begun shooting Conjuring 2, the third movie in the franchise, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, which will retell (and change completely we imagine) the events of the Enfield Haunting. Wan has shared a couple of on-set photos from the film.

The first photo shows the director standing on an eerie looking soundstage. The second shows an actual exor-cism being performed on the first day of production.

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist will see Fran-ces O’Connor play the mother of daughters being trou-bled by supernatural activity. It’s due to be released June 17th next year.

news: sophie cookson in the crucifxionSophie Cookson has signed on for a role in The Cru-cifixion, a supernatural thriller staring Xavier Gens.

Written by screenwriters Carey and Chad Hayes the film involves an investigation into the death of a nun and asks the question of whether the priest respon-sible simply murdered her, or if she really did lose a battle with a demonic entity in an exorcism gone wrong. Filming is currently underway.

HOWLS-REST WELL

the lucid experiment- she's my melody

The song lingers over the pensive thoughts in its lyrics before reaching a new level of energy in the chorus, seething in a apparent frustration at the world’s current state of affairs. You can only applaud the worldly scope of the subject matter and how concise the thoughts and emotion behind it are. This band know what their message is and just how they want to communicate it.

wolf like child-wars

The song starts with a simple guitar rift that is carried on through much of the song, and immediately an asso-ciation with bands like Dire Straits is created. It’s very easy to get into the groove of the track and special credit has to be given to the extremely dynamic bassline that underscores majority of the song. Towards the mid-dle and end it morphs from a saharan sunset roadtrip track to an increasingly psy-chedelic experience, before ending with a comfortable descent back from outer space.

Rest Well was released early, as a little teaser of what the band had to offer. Packed with intense depth and emotion that builds tension, the track takes head banging to a whole new level.
