The Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility at the Milgard School of Business presents the 9th annual undergraduate Case Competition on Social Responsibility. Teams from select universities will be

invited to send a team of four students to participate along with their peers from universities world-wide.

Competition Format and Timeline

February 21–24: Cases are sent to students electronically at 8:00 a.m. Students have 72 hours to analyze the case, formulate their recommendations, and create their presentation. (On your campus)

Monday, February 24: Electronic presentations due by 8:00 a.m.

Friday, February 28 @ University of Washington Tacoma

Preliminary round: Teams have 15 minutes to present their analysis and recommendations to a panel of judges consisting of business professionals, 10 minutes of Q&A, and 10 minutes to receive feedback.

Final round: The top 4 teams from the preliminary rounds present to all judges. The day concludes with a dessert reception and awards ceremony.

International teams typically travel to Tacoma on Wednesday, compete on Friday, and return home on Saturday. The case will involve a business problem that focuses on citizenship and/or corporate social responsibility.

Fully Sponsored Event: The Milgard School does not charge a fee for this event. It is fully sponsored by the Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility and our corporate partners, including our presenting sponsor - Microsoft. International schools will be responsible for their travel only.

JudgesOur competition judges are professionals drawn from companies throughout the greater Seattle region, including Amazon, Bank of America, Boeing, Costco, Microsoft, Premera Blue Cross, REI, Russell Investments, Starbucks, T-Mobile, Weyerhaeuser and many other companies with experience in corporate social responsibility, sustainability and citizenship issues.

We have space for 20 teams (Approximately 12 U.S. schools and 8 international schools)We will start a wait-list when these numbers have been reached, wait-listed schools will be notified by January 15, 2020.

Student ActivitiesWednesday, February 26– 6:00 p.m.

MICCSR Welcome DinnerWe will host a dinner for our guests from international universities arriving on Wednesday evening.

Thursday, February 27– 6:00 p.m. MICCSR Welcome DinnerMeet the other teams and student ambassadors over a hosted dinner in the competition hotel. Our staff will be on hand to greet participants and review the competition day’s schedule.

Friday, February 28 – 5:00-11:00 p.m.Experience SeattleAfter a stimulating day of competition, explore the best of what Seattle has to offer. A bus will take you to Downtown Seattle where you will be able to explore the city, grab a bite to eat, and maybe even try some of the famous Seattle coffee. The bus will return to the hotel in Tacoma at 11:00 p.m.

International UniversitiesTeams from non-US schools will be responsible for air transportation. The Milgard School of Business, through the generosity of our sponsors will cover all local costs, including:

n Local transportation to and from the airport

n Hotel accommodations (3 rooms per night for Wednesday,Thursday and Friday )

n All meals while here, except for Friday evening trip to Seattlewhen students are on their own.

Because of this offering and US Government regulations around taxes on student awards, these students will not be eligible for the cash prize pool offered for U.S.-based school teams.

We have approximately eight sponsored slots for international university teams, therefore early expression of interest is important.
