    The Exalted Ruler’s

    Message

Happy New Year my fellow Elks! We have started our

New Year of 2012, and for those of you that have New

Year’s resolutions, I hope your wishes come true for you.

We have just come off from a very busy month at the

Lodge with all of the Holiday celebrations, and other

activities, and I would like to thank all of the volunteers that help out with all of the

functions at the Lodge, whether it be bingo, a steak night, or working a private

party….thanks so much for your hard work, we couldn’t do it without you.

We had a very successful Hoop Shoot this year with 121 participants. We believe this to be a Lodge record. This was entirely possible by three key people’s involvement,

Donna and Gabe Diaz and our Hoop Shoot Chairman Tim Vachereau….thank you so

much for bringing this to a new level for our Lodge, and look forward to increasing the

numbers next year. The winners are posted within this Bulletin.

January brings us our yearly Interlodge competition and our famous French Night. See

the article in the Bulletin regarding this and also the French Night, and I hope to see you

all there to enjoy those delicious meat pies!

As I come closer to the end of being your Exalted Ruler, I reflect on the 9 months of

2011, that I have served. I am thankful to have around myself such wisdom from our PER’s and Trustees. I could not have done this without their help and of course the

support of my officers. I could not have done it without my chairpeople, and would be

nowhere without all the volunteers. I am proud to be an Elk, and proud to be a member of

    Burlington Lodge #916.

With 3 months to go in my term, I encourage all of you to bring in a new member.

Applications for membership are at the bar. Bring in your friend, and have them apply to

be a member of the Elks. Bring them in to meet your friends, and show and tell them

how we, as Elks care and share. Get the word out folks, and I quote a past Grand Exalted

On December 10th we held our Annual Hoop Shoot competition at the Miller Center in Burlington. We had a record turn out of 121 total partici-

pants. This awesome achievement was directly related to the hard work of the fol-

lowing key people: Hoop Shoot Chairman Tim Vachereau, and Donna and Gabe

Diaz, thank you so much for making our Lodge proud. Thanks also to the volunteers

for helping to make it a successful day, Mike Evarts, Dave Smail, Dot LaHue, Pam

and Gary Porier, Jim Procopio, and our 1st Lady Carol Garrand.

The kids enjoyed shooting hoops, drinks, pizza, an Elk's basketball and a

    Hoop Shoot.

The Following Winners will be headed to Newport Vermont on January

    7th, to represent our Lodge:

    1st Place Runner Up

Girls 8/9 Remi Belisle Amaya Bradford Girls 10/11 Sage Gonsloff-Piche Emma Larivee Girls 12/13 Sara Lamphier Boys 8/9 Dakota Brownlow Chukwuemeka Dingba Boys 10/11 Donovan Montgomery Saul Minaya Boys 12/13 Joshua Slossberg Conor O'Brien

The children’s Christmas party was a huge

success and well attended. The youth activities and

celebrations would not be possible without the help of

all of the wonderful volunteers. I can not begin to

thank my parents, my husband, and my children, who are my biggest supporters. They are always willing to

take on any necessary tasks and to work all day up until

the end to help and make these events a suc-

cess. Thanks to the many volunteers (so many that

there are too many to name) who served cooked,

served food, set up tables, wrapped presents, cleaned

up, kept the children entertained and truly made the

event run smoothly. Thank you to Michelle Charron

for her crucial role, Joey Purvis for coming and enter-

taining the children, Hank Metevier and clan for mak-

ing the children smile (as always), Wes and Sally who

played music, and Dave Eaton for taking pho-tos. Thank you to the many families who came out and

enjoyed spending time with other Elks, meeting Santa,

enjoying good food and great friends. We made cards

and crafts for the elderly, reindeer candy canes, bingo

chip trees, snowflake ornaments, gingerbread people,

and crowns, and children had an opportunity to be read

Christmas stories by the wonderful Mary Sweeney. It

was truly a memorable event and a great time to reflect

on a wonderful year and how truly blessed we all

    are. Lisa Tulkop

    ELDOES CORNER

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wast-

ed.” Happy New Year! I hope that the year 2012 will be a

year of good health and happiness for all of you and your fam-

ilies, too. This is the time of year to make those resolutions

and to see how long you can make them last. It seems that I

am making the same ones over and over again. This year I

think that it might be more valuable to work on a “bucket

list” (things I want to do and places I want to go while I am

    still able) instead!

This month we have our regular meeting on Tuesday night,

January 17 at 7:00 p.m. If you know of anyone who might be

interested in becoming an Eldoe, this is a good time to invite that person to come to the meeting with you. They are under

no obligation, but may be pleasantly surprised by all that we

    do.

It’s not too early to bring in items for a raffle basket that

will be given out at our Spring Fling Dinner Dance. Remem-

ber that we have decided to do that instead of hosting the

Sweethearts Dance this year. In the past we have found that

candles, hand and body cream, wine glasses and wine, candy,

and gift cards have been especially popular. Maybe you have

some new items around the house that you might consider “re-gifting” for the basket. You might also know some people

who own a business and would be willing to donate an item or

service to us. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

January birthdays include: Tina Bessette, Irene Hams,

Theda Hurtebise, and Aline Lubinski. Happy Birthday to each

of you! Remember to get your special discount at Steak Night

    during the month of January.

A final reminder is to bring fifty cents with you for our

monthly drawing as well as your donation for our

monthly food shelf collection. Thank you.

    Take care, Beth Dusablon, President
