V atican City, May 7, 2014 / 06:53 am (CNA/EWTN
News).- During his General Audience on Wednesday,
Pope Francis reflected on the Holy Spirit’s gift of counsel,
explaining that through it we learn to be docile to the Lord
rather than attached to our own ideas.
“It illuminates our heart and makes us more sensitive to the
voice of the Spirit, so that we do not get carried away in our
thoughts, feelings and intentions by selfishness or our own
way of looking at things, but by the will of God,” the Pope
observed May 7.
Addressing the thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s
Square to hear his discourse, the Roman Pontiff continued
his catechesis on the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Counsel "is the gift with which the Holy Spirit helps us to
make decisions in our concrete lives, following the logic of
Jesus and his Gospel” he noted, adding that through it “God
enlightens our hearts and directs our thoughts, words and
actions in accordance with his saving will.”
In leading us toward Jesus, and through him to God the
Father, “the Holy Spirit guides us in our daily interaction
with others and enables us to make right decisions in the
light of faith” the Pope continued.
By the gift of counsel we “grow in the virtue of prudence,
learning to overcome our self-centeredness and to see all
things with the eyes of Christ,” the Bishop of Rome stated,
and at the same time it “leads us to conform more and more
to Jesus, as a model of our actions and our relation with God,
and with our brothers.”
“What can we do to be more docile to this gift of Counsel?”
he asked, observing that “the essential condition is prayer.”
“Thanks to the intimacy with God and to the hearing of his
Word, a profound harmony with God matures in us and
leads us to ask ourselves constantly: What is it that the Lord
desires? What is His will? What is it that pleases Him?”
Like the other spiritual gifts, counsel also “constitutes a
treasure for the whole Christian community,” the Pope went
on to say, adding that not only does God speak to us “in the
intimacy of the heart,” but also by “the voice and testimony
of the faith of our brothers, who help us to see more clearly
and to recognize the will of God.”
Offering thanks for the gift of counsel, Pope Francis prayed
that all might “seek to support one another along the path of
faith, as we seek to be ever more docile to the working of the
Holy Spirit in our hearts.”
“May the intercession of the Virgin Mary, in this month of
May, help us to live out Christian lives with more docility to
the voice and love of the Holy Spirit.”
Concluding his address, the Roman Pontiff extended
personal greetings to pilgrims present from various
countries around the world, including England and Wales,
Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Slovakia,
Korea, the Philippines, China, India, Canada, the United
States, Spain, México, Guatemala, Colombia, Perú, Uruguay,
Venezuela and Argentina.
He also gave special welcome to the family and friends of the
30 young men who made an oath and became Swiss Guards
during yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony.

In the Spirit of St. Francis ...THANK YOU!
To the Knights of Columbus and all who helped to build and take down the Right to Life Field of Crosses.
To Paul Mayer, Dick Haltiner, Steve Holthouse, and John Eagan who got out of bed early on a weekend morning to repair and reassemble the signs and the crosses that were damaged due to wind and vandals.
To the Pastoral Council and to all the volunteers who helped to make the Crab Feed a success!
To everyone who helped with set-up, serving and clean-up; and those who shared their delicious salads and desserts for the Bud Weisner funeral luncheon.
Hope Diner Host: St Paul Lutheran Team
Thank you for everyone who donated blood at our blood drive. We had 30 donors and collected 31 units of blood. There were also 2 first time donors, and a potential of 93 lives were saved by the donations! Hope Shelter had 13 over night guests. Respect Life served chili and had lots of Super Bowl goodies for the guests. The guests are in need of warm gloves. Gloves can be placed in the food donation bin or dropped off during pantry hours. We are in need to volunteers for the shelter. Please see our Facebook Page to sign up or email [email protected] for the link to help out. Food Pantry Needs: Full sized Shampoo and Conditioner, Tuna, Soup and Jelly Did you know that at this time we are only able to give our pantry shoppers 1 roll of toilet paper a month? We would love to be able to give more and there is always a need for toilet paper at the pantry.

BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH February’s Book-of-the-Month is
Eucharistic Miracles
Joan Carroll Cruz
ISBN# 9780895553034
On many occasions throughout the history of the
Catholic Church, God has provided visible proof of
the invisible reality of the Real Presence of Jesus
Christ in the Holy Eucharist. In her book, Eucharistic
Miracles, Joan Carroll Cruz documents 36 such
miracles which occurred from 800 AD to the present
day. This book tells of consecrated Hosts which have
visibly turned to human flesh, have bled, levitated, and
which have become hard as flint when received by a
person in mortal sin. It details the official investigations
that have been made into these miracles by scientists
throughout the world, and where some can still be
venerated today. Eucharistic Miracles also recounts
miraculous Eucharistic phenomena in the lives of
saints: saints who lived with only the Eucharist for
sustenance, received Communication miraculously, or
experienced raptures, ecstasies, levitations, visions,
locutions, and more. Pictures and photographs of the
miracles, the churches they took place in, and the
people involved are also included, adding the final
touch to a comprehensive, detailed, and extraordinary
overview of these miraculous happenings. Eucharistic
Miracles is a superb compilation of God's visible
testimony of the truth of the Catholic Faith, proving
the reality of one of its loftiest mysteries -- the Real
Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

Sacramental News
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen Parishioner, Bud Weisner died on January 11. His funeral was on February 5.
Catholic Corner
How do we live by charity? We live by charity
by living the two great commandments: that is,
loving God with all our hearts, soul, mind and
strength, because He is worthy of all our love, and
by loving our neighbor as ourself for the love of
God. In practice this involves obeying the
commandments of God and of the Church and
performing the works of mercy. St. Paul Family
Catechism.
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Cor. 13:4-7).
Next week: How can we sin against charity?
Church Ladies with typewriters ~ this sentence actually appeared in a church bulletin: Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.
“Life will triumph: this is a
sure hope for us. Yes, life will triumph because
truth, goodness, joy and true progress are on the
side of life. God, who loves life and gives it
generously, is on the side of life.”
-St John Paul II
Respect Life
We thank you, O God, for the Love You have
implanted in our hearts. May it always inspire us to
be kind in our words, considerate of feeling, and
concerned for each other's needs and wishes.
Help us to be understanding and forgiving of human
weaknesses and failings. Increase our faith and trust
in You and may Your prudence guide our life and
love. Bless our Marriage O God, with peace and
happiness, and make our love fruitful for
Your glory and our joy both here and in eternity.
A Marriage Blessing in honor of World Marriage Day, February 10

The St. Francis Quilters achieved their 2018 goal of providing many quilts to those in need. Many, many quilts were donated to members in our church who were in need of keeping warm. As always, when someone came to our Food Pantry and needed to keep warm they were given a quilt. Quilts were also given to the American Legend, Catholic Charity, Good Neighbor, Rose Heaven and Henderson House. Quilts were donated to those who suffered in the California fires. We also made a $500 donation to the Red Cross. We are able to do these good deeds because of your support at our annual Christmas Boutique. In June we will be hosting another boutique and we will have items that will help you decorate for the other annual holidays. Thank you for helping us help others.
