水疱症と皮膚の細菌叢に関する研究がメインテーマである第２研究室（２研）ですが、昨年一番のトピックは、岩田浩明先生が10月から仲間入りされたことです。岩田先生はドイツリューベック大学で自己免疫性水疱症について研究され、大変多くの知識と技術を持っております。４月から大学院生として本間英里奈先生が岩田先生の指導のもと研究を開始されており今後がとても楽しみです。大学院生の渡邉美佳先生と共に皮膚の細菌叢など幅広く研究されている夏賀健先生は、今年は医局長業務から解放されました。今後、益々ご活躍されることと思います。水疱症や表皮真皮間接合について研究を続けている大学院生の、西村真智子先生、豊永愛恋先生、泉健太郎先生、和田麻友美先生（歯学部博士課程）も皆頑張っています。そろそろ研究の集大成が見えてくる頃だと思います。ちなみに守内玲寧先生は論文投稿間近でしょうか。今年は海外留学中の氏家英之先生と新熊悟先生がご帰国される予定で、これからも２研は大きく変化していくことと思います。この様な２研を、田邊美香さん、戸澤麻衣子さん、東寛子さん、吉田芽亜利さんの４名のテクニシャンの方が支えてくれています。最後になりましたが、企業から出向されていた笹岡徹誠さんが昨年、大阪へ戻られました。笹岡さんには皆、大変お世話になりました。今後もご活躍されることを願っております。

I hope he’ll assume an even larger role at his home company.

the year since I came back to Japan. I’m determined to further endeavor in my research. Under the instruc-tion of Dr. Nishie, the chief of the research group, and with the support of the members of the 2nd Lab, including the newly joined graduate student Dr. Watanabe and the lab technician Ms. Yoshida, I’ve been doing my experiments. I hope that the seeds I’ve planted so far will grow and bloom before the end of this year. I always debate with myself about the right time to sum up a project. I don’t want to aim at something that’s safe to complete but small in scale. At the same time, I know it’s a problem to lose in competition by taking on something overly ambi-tious in scale. I always face this kind of dilemma. Every day I feel happy for the opportunities to get inspiration from the undergraduate and graduate students. I’ll try harder in my research, so that I’m able to inspire other researchers.

We reported that IgG from patients with bullous

pemphigoid depletes cultured keratinocytes of col-

lagen 17 more than 5 years ago. At that time, some

blister formation was possible complement-inde-

pendent manner, although this was not what we

were proposing. What we really wanted to convey

was that the decrease in COL17 might involve blister

formation in the lamina lucida. I had studied epider-

molysis bullosa acquisita in Luebeck, Germany. I feel

delighted to have joined the 2nd Lab of Hokkaido

University Dermatology, which is a famous for BP

research, to verify our assumption. For a clinician,

the joy of research may be in solving questions

found in clinical practice. I’ll continue to pursue this

modest enjoyment.

留学から帰国後、１年間の医局長業務を経て、ますます研究に力を注ぎ

たいと考えています。院生として加わった渡邉先生や実験助手の吉田さんほか、２研の皆様に日々支えられ、引き続きチーフである西江先生のご指導のもと実験を進めております。今年度中にはこれまで蒔いた種が、いくつかうまく花開いてくれればいいなと思っています。いつも悩むのは、１つの仕事をどの時点でまとめるか、ということです。あまり小さくまとめたくはありませんが、風呂敷を広げすぎて競争に負けるのも問題なのでここらへんがジレンマです。日々、学生や院生から若い刺激を受けられる幸せを感じつつ、自分も他の研究者に刺激を与えられるように精進したいです。

５年以上前ですが、BPの患者抗体は培養表皮細胞から17型コラーゲン（COL17）を減少させることを報告しました。この際、私たちの意図と異なり、一部の研究者に補体非依存的な水疱形成の可能性と解釈されました。それはそれで良かったのですが、伝えたかったことはCOL17の減少が透明帯での水疱形成に関与するのではということでした。留学中は後天性表皮水疱症の研究をしてきましたが、自分たちの仮説が正しいのか確かめたく、BP研究の拠点である北大の２研に加われたことは大変うれしく思います。臨床医が研究する楽しみは、臨床の疑問を自ら解決できるかもしれないことです。ささやかな楽しみを続けていきたいと思います。

Four years have passed very quickly since I started

my research on type 17 collagen under the guidance

of Dr. Nishie. I’ve been doing experiments solely on

type 17 collagen. What I’ve been experimenting on

has direct clinical implications. Those times when

I deliberate about the relationship between experi-

mental results and clinical symptoms are really

meaningful and enjoyable.

The pace of my experiments is rather slow, but

thanks to the guidance and assistance of the 2nd Lab

members, I’ve been able to make some progress.

I’m now in the home stretch of adding interesting

data to my results. I hope it will make my rather long

research period here in the 2nd lab meaningful.

I have been studying the extracellular environ-ment, an important theme that was given to me as a Graduate Course student. During the past two years, I’ve been able to learn the basics of life science and to appreciate the profoundness of science, thanks to the kind guidance and assistance of Dr. Nishie, many other doctors and the lab technicians. I’ve come to a full realization of the importance of the extracellular environment for cells, and I’m often

-physical fact that life consists of agglomerations of individual cells. Last year, I went back to the ward after a long period of doing only research, and I spent a short while rushing around trying to get back my sea legs. I’ve been spending truly meaningful days full of interesting incidents and ideas provided by many people and things. I’m always thankful to the people around me for their kind assistance. This is my fourth year as a Graduate Course stu-

toward further worthy goals.

西江先生のご指導のもと17型コラーゲンの研究を始めてから、あっという間に４年がすぎました。この４年間は17型コラーゲン一筋で実験を続けています。臨床と直結した分野であり、実験結果から臨床症状をどのように説明するかを考えるのは楽しい時間です。スローペースではありますが、第２研究室の皆様からのご指導とご協力のおかげで、何とか実験をすすめています。若干、在籍期間が長くなってしまいましたが、その分面白いデータを追加すべく最後の追い込み中です。

大学院では細胞外環境を大きなテーマとして与えて頂き、研究を続けて来ました。この２年間、西江先生を始め、多くの先生方や実験助手さんに丁寧にご指導頂いたお蔭で、生命科学の研究の基礎を学びその奥深さを知ることが出来ました。細胞外環境がいかに細胞にとって重要かを実感し、一つ一つの細胞が集まって一つの生命になっているという不思議にいつも驚かされています。そんな研究漬けの日々から一変、昨年から久しぶりに病棟の仕事に戻りました。忘れてしまったことも多く、あたふたしっぱなしですが、色々な方面から刺激的な毎日を送っています。こんな私を温かく見守って下さる皆様に本当に感謝しています。今年は大学院４年目、‘結’に向かってより良い方向に舵を切れるよう頑張っていきたいと思います。

THE 2ND LABORATORY

It’s already been two years since I started my research

in the 2nd Lab. I’ve been feeling how lucky I am to be

doing research under the guidance of excellent doc-

tors and with the help of kind lab technicians.

My recent research theme is bullous pemphigoid.

I mainly do analyses of human type 17 collagen by

using monoclonal antibodies. Every day, I think over

the behavior of type 17 collagen and BP autoanti-

bodies at the dermo-epidermal junction. The time I

can do my research as a graduate course student is

limited. I’m determined to do meaningful work this

year, too.

第２研究室で研究を行わせて頂いてから早いもので２年が経ってしまいました。非常に優秀な先生方のもとでご指導を受けながら、また優しい実験助手の方々に助けて頂きながら日々研究をさせて頂いていることがいかに幸せなことであるか、噛み締めている毎日です。最近の研究内容についてですが、水疱性類天疱瘡、

中でもヒト17型コラーゲンに対するモノクローナル抗体を用いた解析を中心に行い、表皮真皮境界部での17型コラーゲンとBP自己抗体の挙動に日々思いを巡らせております。大学院で研究することができる期間は限られてはおりますが、充実した仕事ができるよう今年も頑張りたいと思います。

第２研究室で研究を始めてから早１年が経とうとしており、１年の速さに驚きを隠せない毎日を過ごしております。私の研究テーマは17型コラーゲン皮膚分化における役割解明及び新規抗菌ペプチドの発見です。研究を始めた当初は実験器具の使い方もわからず右往左往していましたが、現在では少しずつですが技術的な面では成長した部分もあるのではないかと思っています。しかしながら、知的な部分でのチャレンジは大変難しく、若い時に戻りたいと願う自分をなんとか叱咤激励しながら日々格闘しています。ご指導いただいている西江先生、夏賀先生をはじめ、第２研究室の先生方、実験助手の皆様にこのような環境で研究に挑戦させて頂いていることを感謝しつつ、２年目も地道に精進していきたいと思います。

THE 2ND LABORATORY

I’ll be starting my research in the 2nd Laboratory in

April 2014. For the past 10 years, I’ve worked as a

dermatological surgeon under the guidance of Drs.

Aoyagi and Hata. Research is an unknown world

for me. I’m guessing I’ll need plenty of help from

those around me in this new environment, but I’m

strongly determined to give it my all and endeavor in

my tasks. I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to

Professor Shimizu and to Dr. Hata, Chief of the Skin

Surgery Team, for providing me this opportunity to

focus on research. At the same time, I’d like to ask

Dr. Iwata, who’ll be supervising my research, and Dr.

Nishie, the other doctors and the lab technicians for

their kind assistance and guidance.

2014年４月から第２研究室でお世話になることになりました。これまで10年間、臨床医として青柳先生・秦先生の下、皮膚外科をやっておりました。私にとって研究は未知の世界であり、これまでと全く違う環境の中皆様には多大なご迷惑をお掛けしてしまうことになると思いますが、精一杯頑張りたいと思っておりますのでご指導をよろしくお願いします。このように集中して勉強させていただく機会を与えて下さった清水教授、皮膚外科チーフの秦先生に深く感謝申し上げます。また、これから直接ご指導いただく岩田先生、研究室チーフの西江先生をはじめ研究室の先生方、実験助手の皆様、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

I’ve been analyzing the pathogenicity of antibodies

against the C terminal of type 17 collagen. I’ve been

working here since I was a second-year student in

the Graduate Course. It’s been two years since I

started my research. I still have lots of failures in my

experiments, and I need to improve a lot. I believe

my research life is possible thanks to the support of

the people of this lab. I’ve started to do experiments

using mice. The days pass with results that some-

times bring joy and other times sorrow, but I enjoy

the days. Only one year is left for me as a graduate

student. Dr. Nishie and the other members of the 2nd

Lab have been continually supporting me. I wish for

them to keep assisting me in many ways this year,

too. I’ll work hard to achieve my goal.

私は17型コラーゲンのC末端に対する抗体の病原性の解析を行っています。大学院２年生からこちらでお世話になっていますので、研究生活は２年になりますが、まだまだ失敗の連続で、みなさんに支えていただきながら何とか少しずつ研究を進めているところです。マウスを用いた実験も始めることができ、実験結果に一喜一憂しつつ、日々楽しく過ごしています。いよいよ大学院生活も残り１年となりました。西江先生はじめ、２研の方々にはいつも大変お世話になっております。たくさんご迷惑をかけてしまうこともあるかと思いますが、今後ともご指導の程、何卒宜しくお願い申し上げます。

THE 2ND LABORATORY

I started as the newest of the technicians, and now I

am the oldest of that team. Where I was once the one

to trust the others, now I’m the trusted one. I hope

this situation makes me more mature day by day. I

appreciate the other lab technicians and the doctors

for their kind support. Thank you very much, every-

one. I still have so much to learn. The doctors in the

department instruct me in doing new experiments.

I’ll try harder to be of more help to the doctors and

the team members this year, too.

気付けば勤め始めて５年になり、ずっと一番下の立場だったのが上の立場になっていました。他の人を頼ってばかりだったのが頼られる立場にな

り、日々精神的にも成長できているのではないかと思っております。こんな頼りない私でも頑張れているのは、他の実験

助手さんや先生方のサポートがあるからです。ありがとうございます。実験も先生方に新しい手技を教えてもらい、まだま

だ覚える事はたくさんあるのだなと勉強しながら頑張っています。ご迷惑をおかけすることもたくさんあると思います

I’m Maiko Tozawa. This is my third year as a lab

technician in the 2nd Laboratory of the Hokkaido

University Department of Dermatology.

the second year, I felt a little settled and happy when

someone taught me a new experiment technique.

I’ve been enjoying doing experiments in the lab

every day.

There’s still so much I don’t know. I always feel

thankful to the doctors, lab technicians and sec-

retaries for their kind guidance and support. I’ll try

harder to be of service to the doctors of the lab.

THE 2ND LABORATORY

I’m Hiroko Azuma, a technician in the 2nd Lab. I

started working in 2012. I mainly perform immu-

sequencing for patients. I knew almost nothing when

I started working here. Thanks to the kind instruction

and help and the warm encouragement of the doctors

and lab technicians, I started to understand the exper-

iment procedures and the meaning of the experiment

results. I’ve been enjoying my work in this wonderful

too. Thank you again, everyone.

2012年より勤務させていただいております、実験助手の東です。主に、患

者さんの蛍光抗体法やウェスタンブロット、シークエンスを担当しております。こちらでお世話になったばかりの頃は右も左もわからない状態でしたが、先生方や実験助手の皆さまのわかりやすい説明や、温かい励ましのおかげで、何とか実験の内容や結果の意味を理解できるようになりました。とても良い環境の中、楽しく過ごさせていただいております。よりお役に立てられるよう、頑張ってまいりますので、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

I’m Meari Yoshida of the 2nd Lab. I’ve been work-

ing as a lab technician. One year has passed since

I started working in this lab. I’m getting used to

doing things here, and my days are meaning-

ful. Opportunities to take samples from mice have

recently increased, and I feel that I’ve learned some

useful techniques in preparing these samples. I still

have plenty to learn. I’m learning every day from

the doctors and lab technicians. I’m really thankful

to the people in the lab and to the secretaries, who

are always kind to me. I’ll continue to work hard this

year, too.

第２研究室で実験助手として働かせていただいております、吉田芽亜利です。こちらにお世話になり始めてから１年が過ぎました。覚えたことや出来ることがだんだん増え、充実した毎日を送らせていただいております。最近は特にマウスのサンプリングをする機会が増え、手技の幅も広がったように感じます。ですが、覚えることはまだまだ沢山あり、先生方、実験助手の先輩方から日々、色々なことを学ばせていただいております。いつもご指導して下さる研究室の皆さま、秘書の皆さまには感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。これからも精一杯頑張りますので宜しくお願い致します。
