Participating schools included American International School, Mumbai; American International

School, Chennai; Overseas International School, Colombo, Sri Lanka; TRIO World Academy,

Bangalore; Swim Life Club, Bangalore; and Stonehill International School, Bangalore.

Participants enter the venue.

As a coach I am very proud of our swimmers, volunteers, parents and everyone from our Stonehill

community that made this such a great event. Our swimmers did very well in the pool, setting

many personal bests, competing well with great sportsmanship. It was just a pleasure to see them

compete and give it their all.

Richard (P7), Elizabeth (M1) and other swimmers participate in a variety of heats.

The opening ceremony included performances from the Stonehill synchronised swim team, led by

Nelly (D2), and the Primary Cheerleading ASA group, led by Ann-Sophie (M5).

The Stonehill Mermaids and the Primary Cheerleaders perform at the Opening Ceremony.

It was also an honour to have Mr. Hakimuddin Habibulla Ex-Olympian Swimmer (India) address the

crowd during the opening ceremony. He heads Swimming Matters, an organisation whose mission

is to make swimming and water safety excellence, as well as participation, an integral part of Indian

culture.

Mr. Habibulla was not only very impressed by the event and the huge number of swimmers, but

also the fabulous support from parents and siblings in the stands.

This event, with the Secondary Swimming Gala today, concludes another great year of swimming

PRIMARY NEWS

News from P4

P4 definitely saved the best for last. Our penultimate unit of inquiry got the students using their

creativity and imagination to see different perspectives and solve problems. We had a variety of

learning experiences from extending squiggles, to interpreting inkblots and using our imagination to

find creative solutions for challenging situations.

How can we make a single sheet of paper strong enough to bear a significant load? What are the

different materials used to build structures? How is the purpose of a structure connected to its

design? These are just a few of the questions that have piqued our students’ interest and curiosity,

in this last unit of inquiry.

We have been busy beavers building tall towers, strong bridges and creative homes with materials

available to us. In collaboration with Ms. Blessina, we used the Makerspace and, with the help of

blueprints and designs, were able to construct rather complex structures.

After being influenced by Antoniette Portis’s

‘Not a Box’ we created our own version of

‘Not a Stick.’

As the end of this academic year draws closer, the remaining weeks mark the final chapter in the

P8 students’ Primary schooling. Soon, our P8 students will become part of the Secondary School,

embarking on their next journey through the Middle Years Programme (MYP).

P8s meet the MYP Coordinator and the Secondary Counsellor.

This is an exciting period for students and parents. The ease of transition between Primary and

Secondary is of utmost importance, as it lays the foundation for the initial experiences our students

will encounter.

P8s interact with Secondary teachers, students and the Student Council.

On Tuesday 22nd May, in order to facilitate their transition, students participated in the P8

Transition Day. During the day, our P8 students had the opportunity to become acquainted with the

Secondary School environment through an interactive scavenger hunt. They met MYP students and

teachers, attended a range of MYP lessons, joined in a parent/student information session, and had

lunch with the Secondary Student Council on Thursday.

P8s explore the Secondary School area.

The students thoroughly enjoyed their brief time in the Secondary School, all thanks to the warm

and enthusiastic welcome they received from the talented MYP teaching team. By all accounts, the

Transition Day was a success, and our P8 students are more than ever looking forward to M1 and

the excitement it will bring.

To best support parents during this time of transition, we would like to invite you to attend a P8

Parents and Students Transition Information Session to be held on Wednesday 30th May at 3:00pm

in the P8 classrooms. This session will allow parents to ask questions and receive important

information to assist during this time.

M2s Enact Clash of Cultures in Individuals and Societies Class

M2 Individual and Societies students explored the Clash of Cultures by investigating the impact of

the Spanish explorers on the Aztecs in South America.

The students worked collectively, selecting some amazing music for their performance, supported

by easy to find props to depict the history of the Aztec civilization and their encounter with the

Spanish. They successfully worked on interpreting the Aztec Codex and converting this into a

performance task. In addition to the historical knowledge, the activity showcased their talent in

script writing and performance.
